Each week, we dutifully stop by a long, long list of Canadian style blogs to cull the most sartorially inspired personal style images from the past 7 days. The ones that make the cut are those that jump out at us from our laptop screen and make us us shriek “LOVE. IT!!!“, “Sooo good!” or other similarly articulate and analytical remarks.
There are faces you’ll have seen repeatedly in the Lookbook, and for good reason. The Beckermans and their inimitable sense of style amaze us on a regular basis. This week, we have Caillianne, completely decked out in scarlet red, from sunnies to dress to bag to boots. Even the wall behind her is red – that’s commitment.
We love when Dani and Bianca, also frequent features, do the matchy-matchy thing; this week, the blogger duo took on metallic and white and completely killed it, as per usual. Alyssa, one of our favourites from the Prairie provinces, is always surprising us. This week, she took her super sweet floral print frock and floppy hat to the next level when she paired them with a pair of intergalactic metallic silver booties. Genius, really.
As for Ivy, we just have no words. She blows us away week after week with her posts from the West coast, and we can’t help but feature her time and time again. This week’s black and white get-up was no exception. We bow down.
Keep ‘em coming, Canada! We’re loving what you’re wearing.

Bare legs, exposed midriffs, open-toe shoes…it must be summer! Not officially, but patio season has definitely begun, and so has style blogging season. Only the very brave venture out into the Canadian cold for personal style shoots, so with the arrival of friendlier temperatures also comes a bevy of fresh faces on the Canadian street style scene. If not new, at least re-emerging from winter hibernation finally.
We’re rather excited to be featuring our first style-blogging Newfoundlander! Chris looks very dapper in blue gingam and a matching cobalt skinny tie, but it was his anchor-print socks that really stole our hearts. Sandy, another newcomer to the Lookbook this week, is also making quite the first impression with her head-to-toe paisley look and über cool handcuff clutch.
Many more style bloggers are sure to come out of the woodwork in the coming summer months, and we can’t wait to introduce them to you!

This week’s Lookbook is an unintentional ‘who wore it best?’ moment. A certain Zara fold over skort has become a favourite among Canadian style bloggers, and we’re loving all the different ways it’s being styled.
Ivy wore her white skort with a sculptural jacket and oversized printed tee for a futuristic vibe, while Joandy paired hers with floral, vintage Versace for a summery feel. Lisa went for a sportier look with her black skort, donning a chic blazer, dapper loafers and a cute panama hat for good measure.
So who wore it best? They’re all so good – it’s just impossible to choose just one.

Just when we thought we had the aesthetics of our favourite Canadian style bloggers all figured out, one of them trotted out a delightfully unexpected get-up.
Ania, who regularly serves up one fierce look after another, has a penchant for dark colours and leather, and whom we’ve never seen crack a smile on her blog, blew us away this week with one of the cutest personal style posts we’ve featured to date. In it, she’s grinning from ear to ear, wearing a watermelon sweater and floral print cap, and carrying a skateboard she adorably confesses to not knowing how to ride. Cute overload? Not a chance. In fact, now that we’ve seen this side of Ania, we’re hoping she’ll come out to play more often.
How about you, dear readers – new season, fresh look?

Proclamations abound that black and white is the trend of the season. The great thing about limiting one’s sartorial choices to opposite ends of the colour spectrum is that it’s hard not to come up with a decent outfit. When paired together, black and white can be ultra chic and classic or avant-garde.
Take Alyssa, for instance. I love her look from head to toe, but it’s the bold black sock and white platform sandal combo that really stands out. Kristin looked striking this week in a floor-length, pleated black skirt paired with a fierce white motorcycle jacket.
Despite being heralded as a spring trend, black and white are a pair that won’t be going away anytime soon.

I recently happened across a declaration that black and white was going to be a huge trend for spring, and it appears that our favourite Canadian style bloggers all received that memo and decided to get on that trend, stat.
What’s black, white and striped all over? Samantha, obviously. The Beckerman sister’s cotton candy-hued hair added a pop of colour to her jailhouse chic getup this week. Jen‘s black-and-white ensemble combined many of our favourite things: prints, leather and fur, the ingredients to the perfect cold weather outfit.
Stephanie‘s take on the trend was more white with a dash of black; her no-fail white blazer + white pants + striped top combo is a promising sign that spring is just around the corner. I hope.

Not even a little snowstorm can slow our favourite Canadian style bloggers down. This week, it was all about the winter whites. Ania paired a lovely ivory dress with tough Doc Marten boots, while Liz sported a cozy-looking oatmeal sweater with jeans and an oversized plaid scarf in the colour of the season, oxblood.
The duo from Kastor & Pollux, Dani and Bianca, donned matching bright white and animal print ensembles for NYFW, which begs a very important question: why do we at The Backseat Stylers never match our outfits? Definitely something to think about.

A few days ago S and I went outside – coatless – to take photos for our new feature, Shop Like a Backseat Styler, and I must say, it wasn’t easy. S suggested that I pose in the snow against a backdrop of conifers, which seemed like a great idea – very editorial – until I stepped onto the pristine layer of snow and my loafers disappeared in the snow. We nixed the plan for a scenic setting and decided to shoot in the middle of the street, and as S took shots of me I tried to pretend that the cold wind wasn’t blowing my hair into odd formations or making my teeth chatter. When we got home to look at the photos, I discovered that my desperate attempts to look casually cheerful had turned out looking more like a grimace….
How do style bloggers regularly brave the cold to share their outfits with us? On some occasions sheer willpower is sufficient to venture outdoors, but when that’s not enough amazing outerwear is the answer. Ania’s wool jacket stands out with its speckled texture and dramatic lapels, while Joandy’s sweeping coat combined with punches of bright yellow make for a powerful look. It should come as no surprise that the ever avant-garde Sam recently sported the cozy Maison Martin Margiela x H&M duvet jacket. I imagine it feels like a perpetual hug….

Chloe Beckerman of Beckerman Bite Plate, Toronto/Los Angeles
With Marla’s chic take on white pants marking Labour Day and, accordingly, the imminent approach of a new season, it’s no surprise that this week’s edition of The Canadian Street Style Lookbook has been taken over by the first looks of the fall season. The summer heat continues to prevail in Toronto, but these looks have me thinking that cooler temperatures can’t come soon enough.
Libby looks cozy enough in her classic striped sweater, while Anik’s amazing leather pants and leopard print boots are perfect for fall. I wish I had Chloe’s varsity jacket in my closet, and Abbey’s all-black ensemble makes me yearn for the days when I’ll be able to wear all the black I want!
