Admiring from the Backseat: Oscars 2012 Edition

Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

Finally, the fanciest, shmanciest night in Hollywood arrived tonight, the 2012 Academy Awards! Fess up – you were glued to the tube for all 17 hours of Oscars red carpet and awards ceremony coverage like us, weren’t you? No need to feel ashamed about it. We too oohed and aahed over Michelle Williams‘ coral Louis Vuitton gown, cheered for Jessica Chastain‘s best red carpet outing to date (in Alexander McQueen!), and felt those pangs of jealousy over how hot Angelina Jolie looked in Atelier Versace.

All of our favourite leading ladies stepped up their sartorial game, just as we’d hoped. Rooney Mara wore a colour other than black for once – white Givenchy, in fact. Gwyneth Paltrow continued to rock the sleek, minimalist gowns, choosing a white Tom Ford for the occasion. Stacy Keibler - whom S still can’t believe has gone from WWE wrestler to George Clooney arm candy – donned the only Marchesa gown we’ve ever loved.

Rounding out our top 10 best dressed list were Emma Stone in red Giambattista Valli couture (how funny was her bit with Ben Stiller?), Rose Byrne in a black sequin number by Vivienne Westwood, Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab couture, and Natalie Portman in vintage Dior (from 1954!), carrying the Charlotte Olympia ‘Pandora’ clutch S so covets. They too seemed to have gotten the memo that red, black and white would be the colours for Hollywood’s biggest night out.

Who were your Oscars red carpet favourites?

Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012

I love this time of year: awards season, couture week, and the merging of the two worlds on the red carpets. With haute couture week having just wrapped up for the Spring 2012 season and big awards shows like the Grammys and Oscars around the corner, we scoured the couture collections of the biggest fashion houses for dresses we can’t wait to see on the biggest red carpets of the year.

Might Rooney, Michelle or Tilda be sporting one of these gorgeous gowns at tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards?

Versace for H&M Fall 2011 Collection – Sneak Peek!

Back it June, it was announced that Versace would be the next design house to collaborate with fast fashion retailer H&M. We got a preview of the collection then, and now we get another sneak peek, courtesy of Vogue Russia and Vogue US. We’re seeing lots of studded leather, animal and floral prints in vibrant colours and even statement jewelry.

The wild child in me is tempted by all of these bold pieces, but enough to line up in the cold at an ungodly hour like I did for the Lanvin for H&M collaboration? That remains to be seen. The collection, which features womenswear, menswear and housewares, will be available in about 300 H&M stores worldwide and online on November 17, 2011, and in North American stores on November 19th.

What are your Versace for H&M plans?

Versace for H&M Fall 2011 Capsule Collection Announced

H&M announced this morning that their Fall 2011 designer collaboration will be with the house of Versace. Designed by Creative Director Donatella Versace, the capsule collection will include “glamorous and flamboyant” reinterpretations of classic Versace designs. The collection will feature womenswear, menswear and housewares, and will be available in about 300 H&M stores worldwide and online on November 17, 2011, and in North American stores on November 19th. Watch the video announcement of the collaboration here.

The first sneak peek of the collection is already out, too, as Donatella Versace wore a leather dress from the Versace for H&M collection to take her bow at the end of her Versace Spring 2012 menswear show yesterday in Milan (pictured).

“The womenswear collection will be dominated by dresses that fit right in with the spirit of the season, featuring studded leather, silk and colorful print, with accessories including high heels and costume jewellery. The men’s collection will focus on sharp tailoring, including the perfect tuxedo, as well as belts and jewellery for men, too. For the first time in a designer collaboration at H&M the collection will consist of some homeware pieces, including cushions and a bedspread.”

Donatella Versace has also designed a pre-spring collection for H&M that will be available exclusively online starting January 19, 2012.

Are we as excited about Versace for H&M as we were last year for Lanvin for H&M? What we’ve seen so far looks promising, but we’ll need to see more in order to decide whether we’ll be lining up at ungodly hours for this latest H&M designer collaboration!
