The Big Holiday Giveaway: eLUXE $500 Shopping Spree!

It’s officially December, and we know you’re impatiently counting down the days until Santa shimmies down your chimney with the shoes of your dreams in his sack. Until then, though, you’re going to have to make do with us, your trusty, neighbourhood, fashion-conscious elves. Lucky for you, we take our jobs very seriously. In fact, we’re teaming up with some of our favourite e-retailers this month to bring you the biggest giveaways we’ve hosted to date – our way of saying ‘merci beaucoup!’ for your support this past year.

First up: eLUXE! We professed our love for this Canadian site when we posted our interview of CEO Joanna Track recently and a quick window-shopping jaunt over there will have you feeling the same way, if you don’t already. Just a few minutes into our e-visit and the wish list was already a mile long. That’s certain to happen to you too, so we’re going to give one lucky reader of The Backseat Stylers the opportunity to win their wish list items. Tell us what you’re coveting from eLUXE for a chance to win a $500 shopping spree!

Excited? So are we. Here are 8 reasons why (clockwise from top left):

1. Velvet ‘Vonnie’ Sequin Top ($165) – With holiday parties taking over our calendars this month, there’s no better time to add some sparkle to your wardrobe, though we tend to sport our sequins all year round.

2. Milly Leather Collar Sweater ($359) – This sweater combines two of our most favourite things right now: cobalt blue and leather. Even better, the leather collar and cuffs are removable, making this one very versatile piece.

3. Greta Constantine Primer ‘Maha’ Dress ($265) – We pretty much adore everything Canadian designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong of Greta Constantine design, and at Primer (their diffusion line) prices their party dresses are completely irresistible.

4. Tiger of Sweden ‘Acadie’ Moto Jacket ($599) – Not all motorcycle jackets are created the same, and this one is perfection. The leather peplum makes it very of-the-moment, but the jacket will be a closet staple for years to come.

5. Rebekah Price ‘Serpentine’ Drop Earrings ($187.25) – We’ve been hearing this Toronto-based jewelry designer’s name for a while, and now we know why: to-die-for Swarovski crystal statement pieces that need to be in our jewelry box, stat.

6. Gee Beauty ‘The Red Carpet Look’ Set ($134) – S underwent a red carpet transformation courtesy of the lovely ladies at Gee Beauty during this year’s TIFF, and the results were ultra glam. Everything you need for your very own red carpet makeover is in this set.

7. Elizabeth and James ‘E-Sash’ Heel ($360) – The oxblood red and cap-toe trends combine for one rather gorgeous pump from the contemporary line of the Olsen twins. It’s a double-duty shoe that will go seamlessly from the office to cocktails.

8. Rebecca Minkoff Mini M.A.C. Clutch ($225) – This bag’s been on our radar for years now, and it’s about time we – and you! – finally made the leap. It’s available in two sizes and a range of colours and leathers, but one can never go wrong with purple patent.

There are so many covet-worthy items on eLUXE right now – go forth and explore! Then report back for a chance to win that $500 shopping spree. Contest rules are below. Good luck everyone!

Coveting from the Backseat: Miu Miu Leather-Trimmed Velvet Blazer

I’m obsessed with velvet  and leather this season. I just bought these Loeffler Randall velvet stilettos, and I’ve been wearing my OBJECT for Danier leather pieces non-stop ever since the temperatures dropped. But one piece that incorporates both fabrics? Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d find such a thing, and yet here’s this navy blue velvet blazer with leather piping staring me in the face, combining the two together perfectly. To die for!

Oh, but it’s by Miu Miu, of course, and it retails for $1,195. Ouch. Aaand it’s already sold out on Net-a-porter. Phew! Saves me from having to sell my left something for it. The story ends well for my pocketbook today, but I’ll still be daydreaming about this little jacket all winter…

Coveting from the Backseat: Loeffler Randall Natane Velvet Lace-Up Stilettos

It was only a few weeks ago that I declared this Balenciaga ankle cuff pump to be The One (for this Fall, anyway). I’m a fickle one, though, and it didn’t take long for my eyes to wander. And wander, they did, right over to the Loeffler Randall site where I stumbled across the “Natane” lace-up stilettos in the most luscious midnight navy velvet.

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect dinner jacket in this very same fabric and colour combination, but with little luck on that front I’m very happy to settle on this very sexy pair of shoes instead. With its luxe-looking materials yet unfussy design, I can see the Natanes becoming my go-to, day-to-night shoe this Fall.

Available at LoefferRandall.com and Saks.com for $595.

Coveting from the Backseat: Nicholas Kirkwood for Erdem Fall 2011 Velvet Platform Pumps

Earlier this summer, I posted 15 pairs of Nicholas Kirkwood Fall 2011 platform pumps that I was coveting. Today, I’d like to add one more pair to the list – a pair so beautiful they deserved their very own feature.

Continuing his partnership with ErdemNicholas Kirkwood created for the brand’s Fall collection the loveliest pair of velvet platform pumps in a signature Erdem abstract print. Aside from being intrigued by the thought of my very first pair of velvet shoes since the age of 5, I’m also madly in love with the colour palette. The design comes in a few different colours, but it’s this navy/pink/purple version, aptly titled “navy jungle” according to Saks.com, that made me gasp out loud at my computer screen.

The price made me gasp too, unfortunately. At $1,050, this pair of shoes may never make the leap from my wish list to my closet, but I’m OK with that. For now, I’m still learning how to walk in my first and only pair of Kirkwoods!

Coveting from the Backseat: 3.1 Phillip Lim Holiday 2010 Velvet Shorts

If you’ve been following The Backseat Stylers for even just a minute, you’ll already know all to well that I have an incurable and almost unhealthy obsession with all things Phillip Lim (see here for the evidence). If he designed it, I probably covet it. The latest item I’m adding to the list I’m currently compiling for Santa (aka Mr. Backseat Styler) is these velvet shorts from the Holiday 2010 collection. I never thought I’d want to don anything velvet ever again after some serious fashion missteps in my youth (hindsight is 20/20, isn’t it?), but here I am longing for a pair of shorts (most impractical for a Canadian winter) in the most festive of fabrics. Mind you, the perfect shade of sapphire blue that they come in certainly helps the cause.

So who’s with me – are you bringing velvet back into your life, or does the mere sight of the crushed goodness make you shudder?

Velvet Dreams

Team Peter Stigter via Fashion Magazine

I came up with “Velvet Dreams” as the title for this post, but then I thought it sounded like a title of an adult film…so I decided to Google it. There is in fact a film entitled “Velvet Dreams” from 1988, and according to a user comment on IMDb it contains “Italo-sex with class!” However, this comment is incongruent with the film’s overall rating — a dismal 2.8/10.

BUT the Velvet Dream(s) that is this girl’s jacket in the above photo deserves 10/10! I love the rich colour of her jacket juxtaposed with her casual sneakers, as well as the fascinating cluster of brooches which further elevate the personality of the outfit through colour and texture.
