Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Couture Fall 2012
Just one last TIFF 2012 post, I promise! I couldn’t let the film festival pass us by without bowing down to the most memorable looks from the past 10 days. Jennifer Lawrence in a Dior haute couture dress and sleek dark ‘do easily took the title of best dressed for me, but it was a close race for second place.
Lily Collins and Diane Kruger stunned in embellished short numbers by Balmain and Valentino respectively, while Keira Knightley and Rachel McAdams both chose beautiful Elie Saab gowns. Which TIFF red carpet look was your favourite?

I can’t stand the character Jessica Szohr plays on Gossip Girl, so naturally (and rather unfairly) I’ve always felt the same way about the actress herself. But when she steps out onto the red carpet of the Valentino 50th anniversary kick-off party looking as good as she did, I have to give credit where credit is due.
I absolutely adore the combination of the feminine ruffles and lace bodice with the black leather skirt in this dress, and the studded bow pumps are a nice touch too. I’d wear this look in a heartbeat. In fact, I might even prefer it over Michelle Williams‘ leather Valentino dress from Spring 2012. But don’t tell her I said that.

Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2012
Awards season continued tonight with the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which meant another Sunday evening of red carpet fashion. To my delight, a few actresses donned designs that were fresh off the Spring 2012 haute couture runways: Zoe Saldana stunned in Givenchy while Natalie Portman looked impeccable in Giambattista Valli.
Rose Byrne of Damages also took to the red carpet in couture; she was a pleasant surprise in a sparkling ivory Elie Saab jumpsuit. Rounding out my top five looks of the evening were two style frontrunners this awards season, Emma Stone and Michelle Williams, who rocked the red carpet in Alexander McQueen and Valentino respectively.
Did you watch the SAG Awards? Who were your sartorial favourites?

I love this time of year: awards season, couture week, and the merging of the two worlds on the red carpets. With haute couture week having just wrapped up for the Spring 2012 season and big awards shows like the Grammys and Oscars around the corner, we scoured the couture collections of the biggest fashion houses for dresses we can’t wait to see on the biggest red carpets of the year.
Might Rooney, Michelle or Tilda be sporting one of these gorgeous gowns at tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards?

I’ve been obsessed with leather this season, so when I spied Michelle Williams on late night television wearing a gorgeous leather dress from Valentino‘s Spring 2012 collection, my jaw dropped. It may not have been a look you’d have ever seen Marilyn Monroe in but, for what it’s worth, I’d wear it in a heartbeat.
Leather gives off a tough vibe, but the ladylike silhouette of the dress and the lovely floral embellishments balance it out to make for one very chic piece. Perhaps Marilyn would have worn it after all?

Giovanna Battaglia is a fan of feminine, ladylike ensembles, and so am I. This past week in Paris, Vogue Gioiello/Pelle‘s Fashion Director stepped out in one of her girliest looks to date. Her nude and black, swiss-dotted and bow-adorned dress, a runway look from Valentino‘s Fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection, is the type of slightly over-the-top, frilly piece that I always gravitate towards but am hesitant to don myself.

Somewhere along the line, I subconsciously decided that short, flouncy skirts were no longer age appropriate for me. That’s not slowing Battaglia down though, who’s a year older than me, so why have I been imposing this made-up, rather unfun rule on myself? The key, it seems, is to edge up overly girly pieces with fierce accessories, as Battaglia did with her stacked arm jewelry, oversized sunglasses and indifferent scowl.
So on that note, I’m breaking the chiffon tutus out again! And perfecting my scowl.

I’m at a loss for adjectives that adequately describe the beauty of the haute couture gowns shown in Paris this week, so I will let the dresses speak for themselves. Please click to enlarge, so you can see each intricate detail and ornate embellishment in high resolution.

Caroline Sieber‘s look at the Burberry Serpentine Summer Party this week takes my breath away. The stylist and Chanel ambassador donned the loveliest ruffled gown from Valentino‘s Spring 2011 haute couture collection, managing to blow the original runway styling completely out of the water with an unassuming ponytail and fabulous bag.
While the shoes may be an odd choice, no one’s noticing (other than me), since Sieber’s also toting around the Charlotte Olympia Pandora box clutch. Made of transparent plexiglass, the clutch leaves nothing to the imagination. It’s not a good storage spot for your gum wrappers, but definitely a chic conversation piece. The combination of the gorgeous gown, cheeky purse and simple hair and make-up made for one stunning Caroline Sieber.
