Is Uniqlo coming to Canada?

When Uniqlo launched online shopping in the U.S. last month, there were celebrations north of the border (mostly by yours truly!) over easier access to the brand’s popular goods. Little did I know that just a few weeks later, the rumour mill would bring even more exciting news: the potential opening of Uniqlo’s first location in Canada.

Word on that street is that lease negotiations are currently underway for the Japanese apparel retailer to take over space on the sub-basement level of The Bay’s Vancouver flagship. If this is indeed happening, it would be another exciting entry into the Canadian retail market by an international brand. So how hard are your fingers crossed right now, Vancouverites?

Uniqlo to Launch U.S. Online Shopping Next Week – Is This Good News for Canadian Fans?

For those of you who, like me, have been waiting patiently for the day when we can get our grubby hands on some Uniqlo without having to hop on a plane, it may be just around the corner. WWD reports that Uniqlo will finally be launching online shopping in the U.S. next week, which is fantastic news for Americans nowhere near the five locations they currently operate in New York and San Francisco. Even better, the site will offer a much wider selection of colours and bigger size range than is stocked in the bricks-and-mortar stores.

As for me and my fellow Canadians? We don’t have a single Uniqlo store yet and next week’s e-commerce launch won’t include our fair nation, but it may just mean getting access to the brand will be that much easier in a few days. With so many readily available solutions to the problem of U.S. e-retailers not shipping to Canada, like U.S. mailing address and freight forwarding services, I’m certain we’ll be able to find a way to shop the new site.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way – am I right fellow Uniqlo fans?

UPDATE – Nov. 7, 2012:
