Spotted from the Backseat: POGO Gala 2014 Edition

Glenn Dixon and Suzanne Rogers

On April 12, the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario hosted its 13th annual fundraising gala, Odyssey, a soirée held in support of the non-profit organization’s efforts to deliver the right care at the right time and in the right place for children with cancer and their families. Decked out in their black tie best, the city’s social set arrived at the Liberty Grand in Toronto to support the very worthy cause at what is always one of the most glamourous events of the year.

POGO Gala 2014 featured a cocktail reception (duck confit quesadillas for the win!), silent auction (lunch with an astronaut, anyone?), gala dinner, live auction (drums and lessons from Johnny Fay of the Tragically Hip were up for grabs – how cool is that?), and even an official after-party. Check out the gallery below for 20 style snaps from POGO Gala 2014, including a pretty-in-pink Suzanne Rogers on the arm of a dapper Glenn Dixon, the lovely Jane Hanrahan in a gorgeous black gown, and the ultra chic duo of Lori Siddons and Brittney Kuczynski.

P.S. Find out more about POGO and how you can support the cause at pogo.ca.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – April 11, 2014 Edition

Lily Nguyen of Bleed For Fashion, Vancouver

With the sun shining and the snow having melted away, spring fashion is finally emerging on the fashion blogs this week (sans goosebumps). Parkas were traded in for denim jackets, open-toe shoes started to be favoured over boots, and bare legs began to see the light of day.

Samantha rocked a pair of funky shades, Anik bared her shoulders, and Lily took her classic YSL Tribute sandals out for a spin. Are you diving head first into spring fashion too?

Spotted from the Backseat: Holt Renfrew’s Uncrate India Party

Waris Ahluwalia and Alexandra Weston

On April 3, Holt Renfrew threw an Indian-themed bash in honour of the launch of Uncrate India, a collection of products specially hand-selected by Alexandra Weston, Holt Renfrew’s Director of Brand Strategy, and designer Waris Ahluwalia, founder of House of Waris, on a journey to India together. The luxury retailer’s Bloor Street flagship in Toronto was completely transformed, instantly transporting guests straight to the markets of India, with even Bollywood dancers and mehndi artists on hand.

“The idea behind the ‘uncrate’ concept is to showcase the incredible products of different cultures and support the continuation of these crafts around the world. We began with India and sought to explore the artisanal depth and discover the extraordinary products of the country and tell their extraordinary stories within our H Project shops,” said Weston.

The Uncrate India collection features pieces from over 16 designers, including batik silk scarves, precious gemstones, hand-woven rugs, and more that will be available at Holt Renfrew’s Bloor Street, Yorkdale, Calgary and Vancouver locations until May 31.

“We went on a mission of discovery. Seeking out great talents, incredible objects, fresh interpretations of ancient ideas and products that transcend borders,” said Ahluwalia. “H Project allows us to continue to support traditional techniques and share our passion for craftsmanship with the world.”

Check out the gallery below for 28 style snaps of Uncrate India partygoers, many of them adorned in stunning saris or Indian-inspired getups, including Alexandra Weston herself, H Project designer Jenny Bird, stylist Nadia Pizzimenti, and designer Monica Chiu.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – April 4, 2014 Edition

Kassandra Camponi of Kastles, Edmonton

If you get a feeling of déjà vu with this week’s edition of The Canadian Street Style Lookbook, you’re bang on. A few standout pieces that have made appearances recently are featured again, styled in a fresh new way.

Case #1: Joe Fresh‘s trompe l’oeil shirt. We first spotted it on Barbara, who knocked it out of the park with a head-to-toe black and white ensemble. This week, Lookbook newcomer Vickie paired the same shirt with a bright red perforated leather jacket for the perfect pop of colour. One shirt, worn two fantastic ways.

Case #2: Ann Taylor‘s TDF cage pencil skirt. It first showed up in the Lookbook on Christina, who got us lusting after the skirt when she expertly paired it with a black moto jacket and baby pink pumps. This week, Nelia made us want it even more with an equally fierce black, white and red getup, one of our favourite colour combos ever. Again, one skirt, worn two uber-cool ways.

Déjà vu? Why not when it looks this good.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – March 28, 2014 Edition

Amanda by Max Kopanygin for MTV Fora, Toronto

With fashion weeks taking place both in Vancouver and Toronto last week, this week’s edition of The Canadian Street Style Lookbook is a particularly juicy one. Our favourite style bloggers from coast to coast descended on the two cities to take in the Fall 2014 collections in their fashion week best, serving up some serious eye candy.

In Vancouver, Ivy channeled her ladylike sensibility into a very feminine blush and black-and-white polka dot pairing. On the other side of the country in Toronto, Amanda (snapped by street style photographer Max Kopanygin) put on a lesson in metallic dressing. She also put forth a very strong case for socks with sandals.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the Beckerman sisters. The Simpsons-adorned denim jacket, yin yang handbag and bright yellow knits they sported to World Mastercard Fashion Week are proof that no one has as much fun as they do with fashion.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – March 21, 2014 Edition

Alyssa Lau of Ordinary People, Edmonton

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook is a weekly peek into the style diaries of some of our country’s most sartorially gifted, and a visual reminder of what’s trending right now. The major takeaway from this week’s edition? Stripes are the new black.

Toronto’s Barbara and Vancouver’s Lydia both rocked striped getups this week in their Lookbook debuts. The former donned an eye-catching head-to-toe black and white look (we bow down), while the latter edged up a cute striped frock with a cool denim moto jacket and red tights (love!).

Krystin sported stripes too, pairing a simple tee with a girly tulle skirt for a lovely look indeed. The evidence is all there: black and white stripes are now officially a neutral.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – March 14, 2014 Edition

Aleksandra Panic of SashaDoll Fashion Closet, Toronto

We’re happiest with The Canadian Street Style Lookbook when we’ve got representation from across the country. This week, we’re featuring incredibly stylish bloggers from Vancouver (we see you, Jill, in that amazing 424 Fifth photoreal jacket!), Calgary (we’ve got an ongoing style crush on you, Ania), Toronto (that skirt is everything, Christina!) and Montreal (Katia, we need those trousers in our lives).

We’ve got all the big cities covered. What we’re missing is the fashionable folks from small town Canada. If that’s you, drop us a note with your blog link. We’d love to e-meet you!

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – March 7, 2014 Edition

Alanna Durkovich of Xander Vintage, Vancouver

The fashion month tour continued on Canadian style blogs this week. Sonya took a stroll on the streets of London in a to-die-for floral print bomber, while Vanessa went for a bike ride in Paris in an impossibly cool forest green faux fur jacket and pinstripe suit combo.

The action here at home was no less sartorially inspiring. Lookbook newcomer Gloria (it’s about time, right? our bad.) didn’t let the Polar Vortex hold her down, looking chic in a textbook fur and leather ensemble. Alanna, fast becoming a Lookbook regular, sported a brightly printed jumpsuit that was a welcome pop of colour, reminding us that spring fashion is just around the corner. Or so we hope.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – February 28, 2014 Edition

Alex of Alex’s Closet, Montreal

The skirt is making a comeback, and it – in all its different forms – made an appearance on Canadian style blogs across the country this week.

Nelia went ladylike with her snake-print midi skirt and polka dot top, Lookbook newcomer Alex looked ultra-cool in a plaid pencil skirt and moto jacket combo, and Jen combined the best of both worlds with a floral-print A-line skirt and biker jacket of her own.

Have you been braving the polar vortex in your favourite skirt too?
