The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – September 12, 2014 Edition

Alyssa Lau of Ordinary People, Edmonton

With NYFW in full swing this past week, the sartorial diaries of Canadian style bloggers who’d made the trek to the Big Apple provided plenty of Lookbook fodder.

From an all-white ensemble on Alyssa (snapped by The Sartorialist himself, no less) to a matchy-matchy green getup on Lisa to high shine co-ordinated looks on the Beckerman twins, Canadian style was well represented on the fashion week street style scene. Wouldn’t you say?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – September 5, 2014 Edition

Alanna Durkovich of Xander Vintage, Vancouver

This week’s edition of the Lookbook is all about matches made in sartorial heaven.

There are the matched sets we’re still obsessing over, like Alanna‘s gorgeous floral peplum ensemble and Barbara‘s perfectly transitional knitted getup. Then there are the pairings that weren’t actually made for each other, but are just so damn good together they may as well have been, like Sasha‘s fierce denim and leather outfit and Mo‘s on-point stripes and tartan look.

What duos are currently taking over your wardrobe rotation?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – August 29, 2014 Edition

Liz Clark of Elizabeth Victoria Clark, Toronto

Fall’s a-coming, and Canadian style bloggers are choosing to embrace its arrival and the sartorial possibilities it brings rather than hold on to their summery frocks and short-shorts for dear life. It’s already happening: all of our favourite things about autumn dressing emerged this week on the style blogs, and we couldn’t be happier.

Leather jackets? Check – courtesy of Anik. Brogues? Check – thanks to Ania. Tweed? Check – compliments of Jackline. And we can’t forget our current obsession, the almighty jumpsuit – a check there as well, merci Gabrielle.

The seasonal transition is happening, so time to assess and reorganize those wardrobes, ladies and gents. As Alanna says, there’s just no rest for the rad.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – August 22, 2014 Edition

Samantha and Cailli Beckerman of Beckerman Bite Plate, Toronto

Nothing hails the quiet approach of fall more than the re-emergence of leather on the Canadian style blogs after a summer hiatus.

This week, the Beckerman sisters took to the streets in their classic biker jackets, Jenny donned a perforated leather top under a vibrant floral statement coat, and Ania (who we suspect wears her leather all year round) went for the sporty vibe in a moto mini skirt.

Are you ready to bring the leathers out to play again too?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – August 8, 2014 Edition

Anik Lacasse-Richard of Montreal In Style, Montreal

With everyone on the east coast in Montreal for Osheaga (or so it seemed, at least), this past week was all about festival fashion on the Canadian style blogs.

Anik, Gabrielle and Hawley showed us how it’s done: Anik toughened up a pretty floral maxi with ankle boots and heavy statement jewelry, Gabrielle rocked some summer leather in a fierce, perforated vest, and Hawley topped a summery printed frock off with an angelic crown braid.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – August 1, 2014 Edition

Vanessa Cesario of The Brunette Salad, Toronto

Style blogging gals across the country turned up the heat this week in some very hot getups indeed.

Vanessa showed off the gams in a skirt with a well-placed front slit, Anik successfully combined a sexy LBD with sporty sneakers, and Nichole put on a lesson in sartorial hotness in head-to-toe black.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – July 25, 2014 Edition

Hawley Dunbar of Sidewalk Hustle, Toronto (Image Credit: Amy Creyer for Teen Vogue)

Canadian style bloggers were out and about and looking fabulous this week.

Hawley and Sonya travelled south of the border, the former perfecting her festival look for Pitchfork in Chicago with a print-on-print ensemble that impressed the likes of Teen Vogue, and the latter taking to the streets of New York in a lovely tiered cami dress and TDF Chanel Boy bag.

Here at home, Alanna went for a stroll in the countryside in a minty fresh crochet lace matched set, and Jen prepped for a day at the races at the upcoming Deighton Cup with an ultra-chic jumpsuit and pearl-embellished fascinator.

Ain’t summer grand?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – July 18, 2014 Edition

Alanna Durkovich of Xander Vintage, Vancouver

It’s a print story this week on the Canadian style blogs, and we’re loving it.

From Alanna‘s gorgeous floral maxi dress in Vancouver to Krystin‘s pretty-in-pink look in Toronto to Katia‘s retro print-on-print action in Montreal, our nation’s most stylish put on a lesson in rocking bold, vibrant prints.

Will you be following their lead?

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Queen’s Plate 2014

We love getting all gussied up for big events here at The Backseat Stylers, and there’s no bigger occasion for us this summer than last week’s Queen’s Plate. On a day when the dress code called for fancy fascinators and chic frocks, our philosophy was simple: go big or go home.

Literally, it seems, which explains S’s predilection for extremely oversized headpieces. She got a taste for large hats at our first Queen’s Plate last year, and would’ve had a tough time topping that sartorial outing if not for the incredibly talented David Dunkley, official milliner of the Queen’s Plate and purveyor of the gorgeous (and ginormous!) floral headpiece S sported. T, on the other hand, went for a more understated fascinator, opting instead to make a bold statement with her eye-catching metallic candy wrapper clutch and reflective sunglasses.

Both of us donned black and white with pops of metallic silver; save for the giant blue flowers atop S’s head, of course. S’s floral-on-floral getup was a nod to favourite Mary Katrantzou, while T repped Canadian in a dramatic VAWK vest. Our looks complemented each other rather nicely, though admittedly accidentally.

With yet another set of tastefully over-the-top Queen’s Plate ensembles under our belts, our #QP15 garb will have to be even bigger and bolder. Thank goodness we have a year to prepare ourselves.
