When Ryan Michael Cheung of FLARE contacted me about participating in the magazine’s Wear Canada initiative, the only question in my mind was, “What to wear?!“. With a range of Canadian talent in my closet, it was a tough decision, but I landed on a rather predictable choice: Smythe. Anyone who’s followed this blog for even a minute knows I have a serious addiction to Smythe jackets:
“The first time I spotted this Smythe tartan equestrian jacket, back in the Fall of 2009, it was love at first sight. The red plaid, contrast leather elbow patches and flattering fit reeled me right in. Just when I think I can’t possibly justify buying another Smythe blazer, designers Christie Smythe and Andrea Lenczer surprise me again with yet another colour and fabric combination I just can’t live without. The fact that this talented duo is Canadian, and their designs made in Canada, is a bonus.”

But one plaid blazer, as fabulous as it is, does not an outfit make, so I paired it with my favourite Pink Tartan blouse for an extra dose of Canadian fashion power, and threw on some Thakoon pants and Brian Atwood boots (purchased at least from a Canadian retailer, The Room at the Bay) to round out the ensemble. Thanks Ryan and FLARE for including me and my sartorial ode to Canadian fashion in your feature!
Check out the complete gallery on FLARE.com here to see all 22 of the lovely bloggers from across the country. And be sure to join us in showing our national pride on October 19, and wear Canada!

Joseph blouse / LaROK LUXE vest / Thakoon pants / FALLON cuff / Chanel bag / Chloé shoes / Chanel glasses / Aritzia belt / MAKE UP FOR EVER makeup
I learned a very valuable lesson when I wore this ensemble to Day 1 of LG Fashion Week: If you don’t want to be pet, fondled, stroked, or touched really in any manner, don’t wear a cuddly-looking fur vest, because doing so is apparently an invitation to all for all of the above. I didn’t mind though, really, because I was sporting my brand spankin’ new FALLON cuff.
The Violet XL cuff from FALLON’s Fall 2010 collection was on my Christmas list for Santa back in December, but the man in the red suit didn’t come through for me; luckily, RAC Boutique did! When I tweeted recently about how I’d been searching for this cuff in vain, the lovely Faith Orfus, lovely co-owner of RAC, graciously let me know that they had one left, a fact I was woefully unaware of. I paid RAC a visit shortly thereafter and the rest, as they say, was history.
Thank you, RAC, for the exceptional customer service and the cuff of my dreams! This is the start of a wonderful relationship, I’m certain, between you, me, and FENTON/FALLON…

Just a week after throwing a cocktail reception for L’Wren Scott, the Bay hosted another designer at The Room - Thakoon Panichgul. I sadly missed the private party held on November 1st, but partially made up for it by dropping by the trunk show the following day. Admiring Thakoon’s Spring 2011 collection over a glass of champagne was the perfect lunch hour activity. Seeing his designs in person gave me an appreciation for why Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker and the like are fans. I found Thakoon’s pieces were not only gorgeous, but also so full of character and charm. As a native of Thailand now based in the US, Thakoon brings a very unique aesthetic to The Room.

Being in Canada and far from a Target store, most of the Go International designer collections over the past few years have been sadly out of reach. Good news for people like me who’ve been in mourning over having missed Proenza Schouler, Erin Fetherston, Alice Temperley and the like – Target will be re-releasing 34 dresses from 17 past Go International collections on March 13, 2011!
Coined the Go International Designer Collective line, the collection will feature past designs from Luella Bartley, Tara Jarmon, Paul & Joe, Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Libertine, Alice Temperley, Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, Rogan, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Thakoon, Tracy Feith, Rodarte, Zac Posen, and Tucker. I managed to get my hands on a few Proenza Schouler and Rodarte pieces in the past, but I plan on taking full advantage of this second chance. Very excited for this!

From the perfectly coiffed hair to the gorgeous Thakoon dress to the sexy over-the-knee boots, Chanel Iman looks hot from head to toe in this ensemble. She’s really been hitting some home runs recently.
