Holt Renfrew is currently holding a street style contest for the Canadian retailer’s newly launched blog, Holts Muse. Naturally, I had to enter. But what to wear in a sartorial battle with, well, the whole country?
With so many pieces in my closet that I’m currently obsessed with, pulling together just one outfit to represent me and my personal style was a tough assignment. After much deliberation, I stuck with my usual, trusty formula: smart-looking jacket + chic blouse + statement jewelry + fierce shoes + one pop of colour. And red lips, of course!
A caption to my photo was required, and instead of ‘Harbourfront Hoedown’, as T earnestly suggested, I titled my submission ‘The Mixologist’. Why? Because this ensemble combines the unexpected: contrasting patterns and different textures, feminine pieces with masculine touches, and fast fashion with designer items. It’s still only one outfit upon which to judge my street style contributions to the Canadian landscape (I’m so dramatic, I know!), but it’s very me.
Check out my submission in the Holts Muse contest photo album on Facebook here. And throw me a ‘like’ if you happen to – it’d make my day!

I have a confession to make. See, I could tell you that I came up with the idea to pair this simple ivory silk tank top with this lovely black lace skirt, and you would all believe me. Except that it’s not true; I didn’t do it. Tara Jarmon did. The Canadian born, Paris-based designer has a knack for creating chic, feminine pieces like this combo dress, and I’ve been a big fan of her eponymous line ever since I discovered it at The White Space at the Bay.
The rest of the ensemble, I’m happy to report, was my doing. It all could have gone quite granny on me, but I balanced out the rather ladylike dress and Chanel accessories with some edge via my beloved FALLON cuff and Louboutin stripper heels. Perfect beach outfit, non? I kid, of course. I wore this ensemble to attend the wedding ceremony of a very lovely couple, E & D. One plus one, just like a combo dress.

Back in October, Target announced that the retailer would be re-releasing 34 dresses from 17 past Go International collections just in time for Spring. Today, the question of which dresses would be included in the Designer Collective has finally been answered. All under $50 and available from March 13 to April 10, 2011, the collection will include designs from Luella Bartley, Tara Jarmon, Paul & Joe, Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Libertine, Alice Temperley, Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, Rogan, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Thakoon, Tracy Feith, Rodarte, Zac Posen and Tucker. I’m happy to get another shot at some of these pieces! The Proenza Schouler and Rodarte dresses (pictured above) are my picks – which are yours?

Being in Canada and far from a Target store, most of the Go International designer collections over the past few years have been sadly out of reach. Good news for people like me who’ve been in mourning over having missed Proenza Schouler, Erin Fetherston, Alice Temperley and the like – Target will be re-releasing 34 dresses from 17 past Go International collections on March 13, 2011!
Coined the Go International Designer Collective line, the collection will feature past designs from Luella Bartley, Tara Jarmon, Paul & Joe, Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Libertine, Alice Temperley, Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, Rogan, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Thakoon, Tracy Feith, Rodarte, Zac Posen, and Tucker. I managed to get my hands on a few Proenza Schouler and Rodarte pieces in the past, but I plan on taking full advantage of this second chance. Very excited for this!
