The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – November 16, 2012 Edition

Samantha Beckerman of Beckerman Bite Plate, Toronto

This week, more is definitely more – more texture, more colour, more personality.

The Beckerman sisters showcased their incredible new pieces from the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection. Let’s face it, this H&M collaboration is so good that pretty much anyone wearing any piece from the collection would be declared the best dressed in town. Caillianne’s metal chain ring necklace lets you know that if you get in her way she will mess. you. up. (But seriously, Caillianne and the rest of the Beckermans are THE sweetest people ever!). Samantha’s belt jacket is, in her own words, “UN-REAL.” Or was it “AWESOMESAUCE?” Either way, she looks fierce beyond words, and we probably wouldn’t want to mess with her either.

Anya looked drop-dead gorgeous when she met Nicola Formachetti, creative director of MUGLER, at The Room Vancouver recently. I have to say that hers is my favourite look to date, from the very first The Canadian Street Style Lookbook post until now – and we can’t even see the shoes (they’re fabulous, I’m sure). Her Max Mara top is elegant, dramatic, sexy…it’s DIVINE! High praise, yes, but definitely well deserved.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – November 9, 2012 Edition

Liz Clark of Elizabeth Victoria Clark, Toronto

When it comes to accessories, have you ever thought about wearing a glove-shaped coin purse necklace around your neck? Donning a turban to protect your head from the fall chill? Or hanging a cat sweater casually over your handbag? No? Me neither. But this week’s round of personal style bloggers made just these bold choices for their accessories, and they all look amazing!

Caillianne worked a Maison Martin Margiela at H&M (launching next week on Nov. 15!) glove necklace and a vintage turban into a killer black-and-white ensemble that balanced chic on top with sporty on the bottom. The Beckerman clan can always be counted on for creative ways to accessorize.

There are tons of animal sweaters these days that are super cute and not at all kitsch (though I personally enjoy kitschy sweaters), and Alyssa shows us a fun way of wearing one – without actually wearing it. Hanging a sweater over your handbag is a genius solution because then you can have two amazing tops on you rather than just one (this would be the opposite of ‘less is more’ but would achieve the same effect – a brilliant outfit)!

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – October 5, 2012 Edition

Gracie Carroll of Gracie Carroll, Toronto

The transition, it appears, is now complete. We’ve leapt brogues first right into fall, and there’s no turning back now. Only a few weeks into the season, autumn dressing is already at its finest.

This week, Jen sporting a gorgeous oxblood leather skirt, Nelia donned a fitted boucle frock, and Ivy was looking all warm and cozy in a deep green oversized knit. As for Gracie? Her head-to-toe sartorial ode to Toronto is so damn good that we’re at a loss for words, for once in our blog lives.

Sydney Hoffman for Lookbook.nu, Toronto

This week, bold and clean cuts, such as Sydney’s elegant vintage (inspired?) coat with charming gold hardware and Joandy’s pencil skirt with cut out front, caught our eye as much as statement pieces, like Sydney’s brilliant two-tone green pants and Joandy’s Givenchy Rottweiler shirt, did.

S and I are planning to sprint to the nearest Joe Fresh to find Nelia’s gorgeous houndstooth blouse for ourselves. Hunting down must-have items is our favourite kind of exercise, and we’re thinking that Lily’s sweatshirt, loose-fit pants and Gucci heels might just be the perfect kind of outfit for such occasions.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – July 27, 2012 Edition

Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit, Vancouver/Beijing

At the last signs of winter, I packed away my fur, leather and wool. And then slowly but surely, the leather pieces came back out of hibernation, even as the temperatures soared. On days like this one, I was sweltering in my little leather shorts, but I didn’t mind. All for the love of leather, right?

Apparently, I’m not the only one who feels that way. Vanessa donned a head-to-toe black leather get-up that literally rocked my world this week. Her perforated peplum top was simply divine, and her pants fit like a glove. The accessories, a Chanel bag and Alexander Wang shoes, were right on point. She looked as ridiculously hot as she probably felt wearing the ensemble in balmy summer weather…pun intended.

Despite the fact that there was no leather involved, Kassandra’s denim shirt and floral pants combo also knocked my socks off this week. Her necklace was perfectly placed, and her smile (the very best kind of accessory) simply brilliant. They’re contagious, I hear, and I find myself grinning right back at my laptop screen.

I propose we start a revolution: more smiling and less thoughtful gazes into the distance (I know, I’m guilty too!) in personal style posts from now on. Who’s in?
