An Ode to Sweaters So Soft You Want to Rip Your Clothes On

With the first official day of winter just around the corner, we’ve developed a rather timely obsession with sweaters. Not the ugly Christmas variety, but rather those that meet the knitwear purchasing requirements of: (a) uber chic and (b) ultra soft.

From an on-trend cozy plaid pullover to a cheap and cheerful oversized sweater dress, we’ve been collecting sweaters that fit the bill like it’s our job, buying up cozy sweaters we can’t wait to rock to a beautiful holiday sweater party.

OK, we just made that one up, but if we can throw shindigs in honour of ugly Christmas sweaters, surely we can do the same for gorgeous ones? In fact, the celebration is happening right now – and you’re invited!

We’re chatting about winter fashion favourites we’re so enamoured by that we want to rip our clothes on, with none other than Downy, our go-to for keeping our sweaters soft and cuddly all winter.

Join the #RipYourClothesOn conversation over on Twitter: we’ve shown you our latest, coziest fashion obsessions – now we want to see yours!

We’ll also be live-tweeting during the airing of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show tonight (can’t wait!!), so don’t forget to tune in from 10pm-11pm EST to share what makes you want to #RipYourClothesOn.

In the meantime, we’re going to leave you with a little #RipYourClothesOn inspiration – check out this sneak peek of what’s to come from our friends at Downy tonight.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – December 5, 2014 Edition

Anik Lacasse-Richard of Montreal In Style, Montreal

This week’s edition of the Lookbook is all about simultaneously looking chic and staying cozy, an art perfected by Canadian style bloggers across the country.

Vanessa paired a lilac fur coat with a cobalt blue bag for what she called (and we agree!) a match made in heaven; twins Sam and Cailli gave a nod to plaid with the former in a co-ordinated coat and clutch combo and the latter in a to-die-for cape; and Alanna donned the kind of amazing, multi-coloured, perfectly fuzzy sweater one can only ever find in a vintage shop.

How are you keeping warm this winter?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – November 28, 2014 Edition

Assa Cisse of My Curves & Curls, Toronto

Happy Black Friday! The holidays are officially here, ladies and gents, and it’s not just the frenzied shopping taking place today that’s heralding their arrival. In fact, style bloggers across Canada transitioned right into holiday dressing this week, donning all of our festive favourites: velvet, metallics, and rich red and green hues.

Assa broke out the velvet, looking ultra glam in a wine coloured wrap dress; Lisa sported the metallic gold pleated midi skirt of our dreams; and Ania awed as always in a party-perfect emerald green suit.

What are you wearing this holiday season?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – November 21, 2014 Edition

Yulia T. for, Ottawa

This week we twice spotted a less than obvious accessory that almost stole the show in a few of the posts by Canada’s personal style bloggers: la bicyclette.

Yulia went for a ride on her fiery red bike in Ottawa while sporting an uber-cool colour-blocked baseball jacket. Amy struck a stylish pose in eye-catching printed trousers in front of her equally chic duo of bicycles.

Perhaps a bike purchase of our own is in order.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – November 14, 2014 Edition

Amy Patel of Les Best, Toronto

This week’s edition of the Lookbook is all about volume – in your face, large and in charge volume.

Alex donned a classic wool overcoat in a not-so-classic shade of lilac, Amy brought high drama in a to-die-for black brocade dress, and Cailli sported an oversized shearling coat that reminded us once again that we need a shearling coat in our lives, stat.

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Ode to a Belt

We’re all about mixing high and low here at The Backseat Stylers, and this ensemble S sported during Toronto Fashion Week was the ultimate pairing of designer with mass market. The military-inspired peplum jacket by Prabal Gurung is one of our favourite fall wardrobe pieces, but a classic cincher belt by Banana Republic takes the look to a whole other level.

The belt, as luck would have it, was a recent chance discovery in a forgotten corner of S’s closet where it had sat untouched, tags still attached, for a few years. But with a jaunt on a TIFF black carpet and then a trip to fashion week so far this fall, it’s doing a great job making up for lost time.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – November 7, 2014 Edition

Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit, Vancouver/New York

Confession: we’ve been in full on fall shopping mode of late, and the uber chic personal style posts being churned out by bloggers across the country aren’t helping matters.

For example, there hasn’t been a single piece of camel in our closet for some time now, as a result of some inexplicable prejudice against the colour. Now, thanks to Vanessa, we’re thinking we need camel everything, stat. Right after we snag a fab dress from Self Portrait, of course, a new-to-us line discovered from Cara‘s latest post. We’ll also be needing a matched set. We’ve been talking about the trend for months but have yet to find the perfect one, and we’re thinking Ania‘s might be The One.

Have you been doing damage to the credit card too?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – October 31, 2014 Edition

Kaylee Giffin of The Blondie Locks, Toronto

This edition of the Lookbook is all about fall colours. Bloggers across Canada donned rich jewel tones this week, many to the tents of Toronto Fashion Week.

Ania styled a stunning navy satin birdcage skirt in an unexpected and effortless way, Hawley paired a to-die-for burgundy backpack and matching tights back to heather grey for a standout look, and Kaylee rocked an eye-catching teal matched set – one of the chicest we’ve seen since the trend started.

Are you embracing the jewel tones too?

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Doe, A Deer

The talented Jenna Marie Wakani shot this photo of S outside the WMCFW tents last week for Elle Canada, capturing her nod to one of our favourite Canadian designers, Sunny Fong of VAWK. Along with the snap came some fun interview questions, which we thought we’d share here in case you missed the post on

Fave piece: ”My VAWK deer shirt—it’s a one-of-a-kind runway sample!”

TFW Spring 2015 highlight: “The Mercedes-Benz Start-Up finale—what a great platform for emerging talent! These are the designers who are going to shape the Canadian fashion landscape in the coming years.”

Star gazing: ”Stacey McKenzie is hands down my fave front row fixture. Her look is always on point and she has an infectious enthusiasm for Canadian fashion.”

Top Canadian model: ”It’s a tie between Daria Werbowy and Coco Rocha. Don’t make me choose!”

Most cherished fashion piece: ”My whimsical Charlotte Olympia x Olympia Le-Tan Charlotte’s Web book clutch. It was my favourite book growing up.”

Top Spring 2015 trend: ”Jumpsuits. I can’t get enough of them!”

Are you loyal fans of VAWK, Coco and jumpsuits too?
