This week’s Lookbook is an unintentional ‘who wore it best?’ moment. A certain Zara fold over skort has become a favourite among Canadian style bloggers, and we’re loving all the different ways it’s being styled.
Ivy wore her white skort with a sculptural jacket and oversized printed tee for a futuristic vibe, while Joandy paired hers with floral, vintage Versace for a summery feel. Lisa went for a sportier look with her black skort, donning a chic blazer, dapper loafers and a cute panama hat for good measure.
So who wore it best? They’re all so good – it’s just impossible to choose just one.

Head to toe coordination is always risky business – the results can either be a stroke of sartorial genius or a complete, tacky flop. This week, Canadian style bloggers really committed, and took their looks to the next level.
Caillianne had us seeing red: from her herringbone coat to her tie-dye jeans to her printed tote – not to mention those signature scarlet lips – the lady in red never looked so fierce. Neither did her dog, Cubby.
Kassandra‘s outfit this week was an ode to floral denim. She upped the chic factor of her printed jeans and matching button-down with a fitted navy blazer and gold accessories. Kudos on a styling job well done.
Too much of a good thing? Never. Especially when there’s a patterned Canadian tuxedo involved.

I am always impressed when someone can pull off an animal print – mainly because I can’t do it myself. Is it because I’m an introvert? A lover of colour blocking? A boring person? Hard to say.
This week, we spotted style bloggers across Canada sporting animal prints, and needless to say, they all looked fabulous! From the rock ‘n’ roll vibes of Gracie and Anik to Sydney’s polished look, there’s no doubt that animal prints can make any outfit that much more fun.

All the gorgeous bags featured in this week’s Street Style Lookbook have S convinced that her bag collection is in need of a new companion.
I’m not much of a bag person myself, but even I can’t help but admire Michelle’s classic velvet Chanel Le Boy, Nelia’s stunning emerald Prada paillettes scale clutch, and Samantha’s fun Proenza Schouler camera leather shoulder bag. Which one is your favourite?

While most of us bundled up in our winter coats over the holidays, Nelia wore the most charming outfit during her vacation in Punta Cana. She couldn’t have looked any more perfect for a tropical getaway in her white daisy lace dress, pink earrings, and yellow bracelets.
Though it’s not nearly warm enough for naked limbs at home in Canada, Ania and Dani surprised us with their midriff-baring looks this week. I’m the kind of person who will wear three shirts under a parka in zero degree weather and stare incredulously at anyone wearing anything less, including joggers in spandex, barelegged ladies in skirts and ballerina flats, and boys walking around on campus in gym shorts (WHY???).
I would wear snow pants regularly if that were acceptable among adults. I admire Ania and Dani for being brave enough to show some skin in minus-zero weather, and looking chic and totally badass (and not insane) while doing it.

As occasional style bloggers, we’ve come to a less than obvious conclusion: style blogging isn’t easy. Put on some clothes, snap a photo or two and call it a day, right? Not quite.
So much thought goes into the production of a personal style shot that will keep readers coming back for more. The look: arm party or no arm party? Ankle booties or platform pumps? Hair up or down? The location: this graffiti wall or that one? Open field or busy city street? The pose: look straight at the camera or whimsically away from it? Lean in this doorway or sit on that park bench? It’s enough to make your head spin, but those who do it well have it down to a fine art.
That’s why this year we left the personal style blogging to those who do it like they mean it, and launched The Canadian Street Style Lookbook. There are some seriously stylish folks across our fair nation, and we wanted to introduce them to you. And, as 2012 comes to an end, we decided to take on the impossible task of rounding up our 10 favourite looks from the year.
From fabulous Lookbook regulars like Nelia and sisters Caillianne and Samantha to less frequent but no less chic contributors like Anya and Sydney, we’re in awe of just how sartorially gifted these 11 bloggers are. We bow down to your abilities to keep the outfits creative, the backdrops fresh and your bodies perfectly posed from week to week.
To all who were featured in the Lookbook this past year, thank you for the incredible blog fodder. We can’t wait to showcase more of our favourite bloggers, as well as some fresh new faces, in 2013!

When it comes to accessories, have you ever thought about wearing a glove-shaped coin purse necklace around your neck? Donning a turban to protect your head from the fall chill? Or hanging a cat sweater casually over your handbag? No? Me neither. But this week’s round of personal style bloggers made just these bold choices for their accessories, and they all look amazing!
Caillianne worked a Maison Martin Margiela at H&M (launching next week on Nov. 15!) glove necklace and a vintage turban into a killer black-and-white ensemble that balanced chic on top with sporty on the bottom. The Beckerman clan can always be counted on for creative ways to accessorize.
There are tons of animal sweaters these days that are super cute and not at all kitsch (though I personally enjoy kitschy sweaters), and Alyssa shows us a fun way of wearing one – without actually wearing it. Hanging a sweater over your handbag is a genius solution because then you can have two amazing tops on you rather than just one (this would be the opposite of ‘less is more’ but would achieve the same effect – a brilliant outfit)!

It’s already November but I’m still searching for that perfect fall jacket. I have had my mind set on a quilted bomber jacket – Vanessa’s is perfect! – but this week’s street style has me thinking that maybe just one fall jacket isn’t enough….
M’c kenneth took advantage of the chilly weather to layer an elegant dark green coat over a wool blazer. I myself layer my jackets as fall nears winter – usually a leather jacket underneath a fall jacket – and admire how M’c kenneth’s look has presence but isn’t bulky. Another fan of layering is Justyna, who wore a wool jacket underneath an on-trend fur collar jacket. Her lovely vintage cherry-printed dress put a smile on my face.
On those rare warmer days, a blazer can provide just the right amount of warmth. Nelia donned a sophisticated tuxedo jacket over a beautiful brocade peplum suit, while Krystin looked super cute in her polka dot blazer, striped blouse, and bowtie.

Dani Roche of Kastor & Pollux, Toronto
This Tuesday, in between shows at World Mastercard Fashion Week, our always impeccably dressed friends Nelia and Kim were commenting on how they both happened to be wearing green trousers by Joe Fresh when, funnily enough, S realized that she herself owns both those pairs! The leaves may have changed colour already, but green can still be spotted all around.
We’re super jealous that Vanessa managed to get her hands on this season’s “it” item, the green Kenzo tiger embroidered sweater. Dani wore a beautiful H&M gradient sweater, while Anik’s neon green blouse complemented her perfectly fitted houndstooth pants. Speaking of houndstooth, the print continues to be a popular trend, and Joandy effortlessly pulled it off with a sophisticated black and white look.
Enjoy the final day of Toronto Fashion Week, everyone!

Is there a better way to make a sartorial impression than with a punch of red? I should think not, for it seems that whenever I wear a plain bright red toque of mine someone will always surprisingly declare, “I love your hat!” S recently wore a stunning red lipstick that everyone was obsessed with. An impressed makeup artist – whom I would expect to know everything there is to know about makeup – drilled S about it, while a curiously informed gentleman attempted to guess the brand.
This week, Nelia showcased the colour of the season – oxblood red – with her gorgeous FLARE x ALDO handbag and her elegant MOON Apparel crepe dress. Two looks from one blogger in the same edition of the Lookbook is a first; we just adored the ensembles too much not to include them both!
Looking equally chic was Anik in her burgundy sweater, black midi skirt, leopard-print scarf and camel suede boots – all the elements of a perfect fall getup. Brighter shades of red were no less popular, with Bianca donning cute red socks and M’C Kenneth sporting one of the most beautiful watches I’ve ever seen.
