Designer Michael Kors in Toronto Today, Plus His Top 5 Red Carpet Looks This Year

Michael Kors has been on an epic roll of late. With a record-breaking IPO last year, a loyal fanbase that includes Michelle Obama, a spot on the Time 100, and soaring profits to boot, the American designer and former (and our favourite!) Project Runway judge is looking pretty unstoppable right about now.

In fact, Kors fever is about to hit an all-time high in Toronto with the #MKToronto bash this evening, where the designer himself will be in attendance. We can’t wait to hear some Project Runway-worthy pearls of wisdom.

Follow the #MKToronto hashtag for the scoop and stay tuned for our recap later this week. In the meantime, check out our 5 favourite Michael Kors looks on the red carpets so far this year.

Admiring from the Backseat: Golden Globe Awards 2013 Edition

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen

Golden Globes 2013 turned out to be quite the night! Honourary Backseat Styler D joined us for this year’s festivities and we spent the evening critiquing the red carpet fashions, accusing each other of cheating in the GG pool, and playing Amy Poehler and Tina Fey’s Golden Globes drinking game. Lots of controversy, to say the least. So much so, in fact, that we couldn’t even narrow the best dressed field down to 10.

While the red carpet as a whole left much to be desired, favourites like Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen, Anne Hathaway in Chanel and Julianne Moore in Tom Ford were shoo-ins. Ladies in red Jennifer Lawrence (in Christian Dior) and Naomi Watts (in Zac Posen) also made the cut, as did Kerry Washington in an embellished Miu Miu frock. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked drop-dead gorgeous in a bow-adorned Saint Laurent gown, while Julianna Margulies and Michelle Dockery both took risks with their Pucci and Alexandre Vauthier gowns that paid off.

The final spot in our top ten best dressed of the night was a toss-up between Rachel Weisz in a sheer, polka-dotted number by Louis Vuitton (S’s pick) and Katharine McPhee‘s revealing Theyskens’ Theory dress (T’s pick). Rather than settle the issue via a breakdance fight, we decided to expand our list to 11 and call it a night.

Admiring from the Backseat: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Naeem Khan and Burberry

The Transformers: Dark of the Moon press tour stopped in Berlin and London this weekend, and star Rosie Huntington-Whitely pulled out some stunning looks for the red carpet. She looked incredible in a silver embellished Naeem Khan gown in Berlin on Saturday, and then a custom navy Burberry dress in London on Sunday.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel and newly-minted actress has been on a sartorial roll of late; I’ve yet to see a misstep. Here’s hoping Huntington-Whitely’s turn on the big screen is as impressive as her red carpet repertoire.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in British GQ July 2011

Rosie Huntington-Whitely has been everywhere lately, promoting the upcoming release of Transformers: Dark of the Moon on June 29th, and has been taking up her fair share of magazine pages this summer. We’ve come to expect sultry shots from the frequent Burberry campaign model and Victoria’s Secret angel, but her recent cover and editorial in British GQ‘s July 2011 issue is absolutely smokin’. Huntington-Whitely stuns in a Gucci dress and matching Rupert Sanderson sandals. Megan, who?

Burberry Fall 2010 Campaign

It’s 24 degrees Celsius and sunny outside – a lovely summer day and perfect patio weather. And yet – thanks to Burberry’s Fall 2010 campaign – I find myself longing for cooler temperatures and Fall outerwear. The collection is beyond perfection to me and the campaign does an amazing job of showcasing it. I’m dying over the shearling jackets and military trenches…all that’s missing are some fierce shoes to match!
