Coveting from the Backseat: Roots ‘Moto 2.0′ Deerskin Vest

We’ve had the perfect leather vest on our ongoing shopping list for some time now, and we’re just about ready to cross it off, thanks to Roots.

The brand is currently celebrating its 41st anniversary (happy birthday!) with a #sweatstyle campaign featuring Canadian tastemakers in classically Roots styles. Our favourite? The Moto 2.0 Vest in deerskin, aka the leather vest of our dreams.

We’re in love with the clean, minimalist styling and supple leather. It’s the perfect layering piece as we – say it ain’t so! – transition into fall. The vest retails for $598 over at

Good luck and happy shopping, fellow procrastinators! See you on the other side.

THE BIG HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY: Roots Canada $300 Shopping Spree!

THE BIG HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY continues! Today’s big prize? A $300 shopping spree courtesy of Roots Canada! Because us patriotic Canadians couldn’t possibly run 2 weeks’ worth of giveaways without featuring one of our favourite national brands. We grew up sporting Roots’ classic sweats, and we’re still living in them now (new ones, of course). Plus, the retailer’s wildly popular varsity jackets and instantly recognizable leather handbags have helped Roots maintain its Canadian cool status for 40 years.

So how would we spend that $300 gift card? We’re so glad you asked, because we’ve been daydreaming up a shopping list (clockwise from top left):

1. Western Riding Boot ($318) – We’ve never met a riding boot we didn’t like, and Roots’ take with its double-wrap belt and loop detailing is a definite favourite. Made in Canada from 100% Italian leather – need we say more?

2. Smythe Bomber Jacket ($988) – Roots collaborated with one of our other favourite Canadian labels, Smythe Les Vestes, on a to-die-for bomber jacket in celebration of its 40th anniversary. We’d put that $300 gift card towards this jacket in a heartbeat. Want. Now.

3. Venetian Village bag ($208) – Roots’ original leather flat bags never go out of style, and are a fashionable solution that go seamlessly from the work week to the weekend.

4. Heritage Kanga Hoody ($72) – Still highly covetable after all these years, Roots’ classic logo hoody is a must-have. We’ve been wearing ours non-stop all fall.

5. Lodge Fair Isle Mitt ($48) – We’ll fall head over heels in love with just about anything fair isle, and these adorable mitts are no exception.

6. Jackie Bag ($238) – We’ve always had a soft spot for Roots’ super cute cross-body bag. In magenta? We love it even more, obviously.

That’s our wish list – what’s on yours? Tell us for a chance to win that $300 shopping spree. Contest rules are below. Good luck and happy window-shopping!

Shop Like A Style Blogger: 15 Out-of-the-Ballpark Baseball Jackets

Baseball jackets are everywhere right now, both on the field and off. We’d managed to resist their charms until Alyssa of Ordinary People donned a geeky chic plaid version with a vintage feel last week. All of a sudden, we were searching the malls and the interwebs for our very own. Not only did we find some seriously stylish baseball jackets, but we got a tad carried away and came upon some pretty darn good varsity jackets and even bomber jackets too.

Check out the gallery below for 15 of our favourites right now, including an amazing printed neoprene jacket by Clover Canyon for $387 (not for the faint of heart), a Hudson’s Bay Company Olympic Collection varsity jacket that’s on sale for a mere $47.50 (for men’s, but we’d rock it), and the fiercest black quilted leather baseball jacket by Roots Canada for $568 (the very one first worn by Drake!).

Will you be sporting a baseball/varsity/bomber jacket too this fall?

American Express Canada Launches New Choice and ChoicePlus Cards

Photo booth fun with Nelia Belkova and Richard Fabregui

Over-the-knee stiletto boots or patent leather brogues? Python-print skinny jeans or metallic brocade skirt? My wardrobe presents me with rather critical sartorial choices on a daily basis, and, frankly, I relish in every single one I’m called to make. As a legitimate fashion addict, I enjoy debating such things as the merits of purchasing an oxblood leather doctor bag for everyday vs. a skull-clasp minaudière for evenings out, and making the decision that’s right for me and my closet, i.e. both! An equally important choice is which credit card I use to make those fabulous handbag purchases, a decision that just got a whole lot more exciting.

Chatting with chef Mark McEwan

Meet my next must-have acquisition: the new Choice or ChoicePlus Card from American Express. At the launch event on November 5, I was treated to an evening of choose-your-own-adventure fun, wherein my choices led to a night of cocktails with chef Mark McEwan at his restaurant Fabbrica, stylish caricatures and caviar manicures by The Ten Spot at Browns Shoes, and some good old fashioned shopping and photo booth shenanigans at Roots. It was a creative and clever way to remind me and the other attendees just how much fun it is to decide your own fate, sartorial or otherwise.

The likeness is uncanny

The freshly-introduced Choice and ChoicePlus Cards present me with the same power of choice that I have over my closet rotation. Where do I earn rewards? How do I redeem my points? I decide. These new offerings from American Express are designed to fit your lifestyle and unique shopping habits. You have the freedom to earn points everywhere you use your Card and the power to choose five places from over 100 retailers where you want to earn double points. As you collect your points, you have the power to choose how you’d like to use them. In other words, you can shop and earn points wherever you like and reward yourself with the things you love.

Earn double points on the purchase of a new fall/winter wardrobe at my favourite stores, and then redeem for a sunny getaway from the cold with TripFlex rewards? Sounds perfect to me! I’ve been tasked by American Express with test-driving either the Choice or ChoicePlus Card over the coming months, and I can’t wait to take it out for a spin on my upcoming holiday fashion shopping expedition. Stay tuned for my next report! In the meantime, read all about the Choice and ChoicePlus Cards here and check out this cute introductory video here.

xx, S
