Rose Byrne in Lanvin
Because we’re not yet ready to let go of awards season and we have a feeling you aren’t either, we’ve going to dwell on Oscars Sunday just a little longer. We’ve gone ahead and rounded up our favourite after-party looks from the annual post-Oscars Vanity Fair soirée, and they’re just as glamourous as those on our best dressed list from the main event itself.
Red carpet regulars like Zoe Saldana and Kate Bosworth knocked it out of the sartorial ballpark once again in a ruffle and lace Givenchy number and embroidered Giambattista Valli frock respectively, while Amy Adams and Elizabeth Banks stunned in fringed Oscar de la Renta and printed Alexander McQueen.
Our hands-down favourite though was Rose Byrne, who served up possibly her best red carpet appearance ever, surprising us in a gorgeous white Lanvin getup. An incredible improvement over her horrendous SAG Awards outing!

Diane Kruger in custom Nina Ricci at Cannes International Film Festival
From awards shows to movie premieres to fashion parties, it’s been quite a year on the red carpets. We saw new sartorial heroines emerge, like Jennifer Lawrence during her Hunger Games promotional tour, as well as established greats like Michelle Williams and Diane Kruger continue to bring their A games. With stunning look after stunning look to choose from, selecting a short list of the 10 best dressed of 2012 was a near impossible task. With much deliberation, we finally settled on the 10 that made our jaws drop and raised the red carpet bar.
What do you think of our top 10 best dressed of the year – did we nail it, or did we miss some of your favourites? Do tell!

Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2012
Awards season is officially underway, as the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards took over the television airwaves and Twitterverse last night. I dutifully watched every minute of pre-show red carpet coverage just so I could bring you this here post. And though I’d like to say that it was incredibly hard work on my part and that it was very tough to narrow the list down to only a handful of looks, the truth is that these 5 actresses and their stunning gowns were standouts that made my job easy.
Rooney Mara was one of the most highly anticipated red carpet arrivals of the evening, and she certainly didn’t disappoint in a chic black Nina Ricci dress. The always flawless Julianne Moore also chose a black gown, by Chanel Haute Couture no less. Her green tassel earrings by Fred Leighton complemented her scarlet hair perfectly.
That wasn’t the only burst of colour. Charlize Theron looked pretty in Dior pink, Emma Stone wore custom eggplant Lanvin, and Tilda Swinton marched to the beat of her own sartorial drum in sky blue Haider Ackermann. Each actress brought her very own brand of glam to the Golden Globes, making for one very fabulous red carpet.

Power Ball 13: Thirteenth Floor has to be the most hyped up charity event I’ve attended since I started covering such things. In the months leading up to it, all I was hearing was “Power Ball this” and “Power Ball that“; why was Toronto so excited over a fundraiser for The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery? I found out for myself last Thursday, June 16th – a whirlwind evening of primping courtesy of Conair and Rock-It Promotions, snapping photos of my fellow Power Ball-ers’ fabulous outfits, and plenty of food, drink and chatter in between.
From the moment I stepped foot in The Power Plant that night to the moment I left Toronto’s Harbourfront, my first Power Ball experience was a case study in sensory overload, in the very best way, of course. With art installations that made you go hmmm at every turn, culinary delights by Marc Thuet like a giant roasting cow, and an incredible line-up of DJs, I’d say Power Ball 13 lived up to the hype, and then some.
Party-goers elevated their sartorial games, too, for the occasion. From Anita Clarke‘s Mark Fast bodysuit to Elly Barlin-Daniels‘ Givenchy mini to Briony Smith‘s Evan Biddell studded dress, this was not your usual charity fundraiser fare. My motto for the evening was “go bright or go home”, and so I did, in a yellow Lanvin for H&M dress and fruit-themed Charlotte Olympia pumps that made FASHION Magazine‘s Power Ball coverage.
Power Ball 13 was such an unexpectedly good time that I’m already counting down the days until Power Ball 14. That’s a long way from now, unfortunately, so in the meantime I’ll be joining in on the “Power Ball this“-ing and “Power Ball that“-ing…

Last month, Lanvin announced that the design house would be launching a childrenswear collection this Fall, and today a lookbook full of happy little girls in miniature organza and tulle concoctions was released. The 25-piece collection features dresses, separates and accessories, including necklaces and shoes, for girls aged 4 to 10. Elbaz has even designed four ragdolls, who are also lucky enough to be dressed in the collection.
No word yet on price points, but if they’re even a fraction of the price tags of the brand’s ready-to-wear, my son won’t be wearing Lanvin anytime soon. Yes, he’s a boy and the collection is for girls, but you get my point – too rich for our blood. That doesn’t mean, though, that I can’t appreciate these adorable images of beaming little girls jumping and prancing around in Lanvin, because I do – so cute! But I’m also just a wee bit jealous of them and their fancy Alber Elbaz-designed frocks.
The collection hits stores this November.

On March 26, 2011, the Royal Ontario Museum‘s Young Patrons’ Circle hosted its annual fundraising gala, PROM: Into the Wild, presented by BCBGMAXAZRIA. Held in the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, it was an evening of good food, great company, and fantastical fashions. Party-goers were instructed to ignite their imaginations ”with inspiration from the natural world. Take cues from a rowdy canopy of rainforest trees, a deep ocean brimming with life or a dry desert habitat hissing with activity.” Suggestions included fancy feathers and faux fur; bold and racy prints like cheetah, zebra, or sexy snakeskin patterns; safari chic or khaki cool; wild manes and magnificent masks; and penguin suits. And what did we see? All of the above!

The entire city of Toronto is waiting with bated breath tonight for the biggest snow storm to hit us so far this winter…and I’m thinking about open-toe shoes. Instead of “snowmageddon” (as the city’s tweeps have coined it), my mind is on a pair of peep-toe platform wedges from Lanvin’s Resort 2011 accessories collection. I’ve never been much of a fan of wedge sandals, but the snake painted canvas, the grosgrain tie at the ankle and the stacked cork wedge heel combine for a gorgeous shoe that even this naysayer can’t resist.

by The Backseat Stylers | January 1st, 2011 T and I started The Backseat Stylers back in 2009, but it was really in 2010 that things picked up on this little here site. There were so many exciting firsts and fun moments that I decided to round up my most coveted blog memories from the past year. I love year-end Top 10 lists, so I had a lot of fun putting together The Backseat Stylers’ 2010 edition. Let’s begin!
10. The Backseat Stylers shop like there’s no 2011

I’m a shopaholic. I could make a whole Top 10 list of wardrobe additions this year, but I won’t. Instead, I’ll include them all as one massive #10 entry on this listing. Where to begin? Let’s see…well, I cheated on Karl and Chanel and bought myself my first Balenciaga bag – an anthracite (bluey-grey) Work with giant gold hardware. I strategically waited over half a year for my dream Alexander McQueen Fall 2010 winged booties (pictured) to go on sale before finally snagging them at 50% off from Net-a-porter. I ordered the extremely limited Valentino for Gap ruffled bolero I so coveted from Colette Paris, on the other side of the pond. And I discovered and fell madly in love with Toodlebunny. The shopping gods certainly looked favourably upon me this year!
Read on for the rest of our top 10 moments of 2010…

Life in the backseat has been so hectic lately that some of our regular features have slipped a bit, but “Admiring from the Backseat” is back with a vengeance today with a spotlight on my celeb girl crush, Natalie Portman (last featured here). Portman is sporting none other than the very Lanvin (hearts) H&M plum one-shoulder dress I bought 2 weeks ago. If I had any doubts about the fabulousness of this dress (I didn’t), I don’t anymore – what’s fab enough for Miss Portman is certainly fab enough for little old me. Now all I need is a movie premiere to wear my own dress to…now accepting invites from A-list male actors looking for arm candy with which to walk the red carpet.

Late Friday night/early Saturday morning, my partner-in-crime J and I climbed out of our respective cozy, warm beds to venture out into the frigid cold to join our fellow shopaholic Torontonians in the line-up for the Lanvin (hearts) H&M collection. The original plan was not to head out until closer to 5am, but on our way home from work at 5pm on Friday evening we saw that over 20 fanatics had already camped out (literally – there was a tent pitched and sleeping bags rolled out) outside our local H&M, so we moved our schedule up to avoid disappointment. In line before 3am, we had over 5 hours to kill before the doors opened at 8am. When the adventure finally ended around 11am, we’d devoted 8 hours to the whole endeavour.
