Admiring from the Backseat: Toronto International Film Festival 2014 Edition

Kate Bosworth in BOSS

TIFF 2014 has come and gone, but before we roll those red carpets back up and store them away for the year, we should obviously take a moment to bow down to the sartorial highlights of the past 11 days. From a red hot Kate Bosworth in BOSS to the ever glamourous Julianne Moore in Giambattista Valli, Hollywood’s leading ladies definitely brought their finest film premiere duds to Toronto.

Let’s compare red carpet notes – are we on the same page regarding TIFF 2014′s best dressed?

The Toronto International Film Festival officially wrapped up yesterday; the red carpets have been rolled up and the celebrities have returned to Hollywood, but we’re still riding that high that only the film festival can bring. We’re going to miss our favourite actresses walking the streets of Toronto in haute couture frocks, but awards season will be here before we know it.

In the meantime, we’ve rounded up our 10 favourite red carpet looks of TIFF 2013 to help with the withdrawal. From Julia Roberts in a gorgeous red Dolce & Gabbana number to Dakota Fanning in a jaw-dropping Atelier Versace gown, this year’s crop of stars brought their sartorial A games, making for the most fabulous Festival to date.

Our fair city is all abuzz this week with Toronto International Film Festival preparations: the red carpets have been steam cleaned, the celeb gifting lounges stocked up, and the film reels set to play. The TIFF circus officially starts tomorrow, and we couldn’t be more excited. Ryan Gosling may not be making an appearance at the festival this year, but if there’s one thing that gets us even more into a tizzy than The Gos, it’s red carpet fashion.

Over the next 11 days, couture pieces flown in from Europe will be spotlighted alongside the very best Canadian designers have to offer, and we can’t wait to take it all in. In the meantime, we’ve rounded up 10 of our absolute favourite looks from TIFFs gone by for your viewing pleasure.

Epic past red carpet moments like Carey Mulligan in whimsical, galaxy-print Christopher Kane, Eva Mendes in an ultra-glam black Andrew Gn gown and Blake Lively in red-hot, floral-embellished Chanel Haute Couture are going to be a challenge for this year’s crop of stars to top.

Admiring from the Backseat: Toronto International Film Festival 2012 Edition

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Couture Fall 2012

Just one last TIFF 2012 post, I promise! I couldn’t let the film festival pass us by without bowing down to the most memorable looks from the past 10 days. Jennifer Lawrence in a Dior haute couture dress and sleek dark ‘do easily took the title of best dressed for me, but it was a close race for second place.

Lily Collins and Diane Kruger stunned in embellished short numbers by Balmain and Valentino respectively, while Keira Knightley and Rachel McAdams both chose beautiful Elie Saab gowns. Which TIFF red carpet look was your favourite?

Admiring from the Backseat: Keira Knightley in Mary Katrantzou

London-based designer Mary Katrantzou is one of T’s fashion favourites. The last time we posted a look of hers it was on Vogue Nippon‘s Editor-at-Large, Anna Dello Russo, from whom we’ve come to expect bold graphics and unexpected silhouettes.

Actress Keira Knightley isn’t one we normally look to for the most fashion forward ensembles, but on this day, in this outfit, she managed to blow us away. Her sleek bob, chic sunglasses and Fall 2011 Katrantzou dress made for a fierce lady-who-lunches look. When I grow up, I’d like to lunch in Katrantzou too.

By the way, that gnome she’s holding in the last photo? Knightley’s stylist handed it to her upon seeing how awkward she looks in the first photo, standing there looking like she isn’t sure what to do with her hands. OK, I made that up. How would you caption the picture?
