Admiring from the Backseat: Fashion’s Night Out 2012 Edition

Alexa Chung in Moschino

Fashion industry insiders and fans around the world celebrated the fourth edition of Fashion’s Night Out on September 6, and a few of our favourite celebrities joined in on the sartorial fun. In New York, Alexa Chung donned Moschino to host and DJ the brand’s FNO festivities, while Jennifer Hudson attended QVC’s event in whimsical Charlotte Olympia pumps and a little red dress from her line for the television shopping network.

On the other side of the pond, Cheryl Cole chose a lace and velvet peplum number for a FNO date with Giuseppe Zanotti, and actress Amber Anderson wore a white Jonathan Saunders frock to the Mulberry bash. Miranda Kerr took part in FNO festivities too, sporting a printed Erdem dress to a party for her skincare line in Australia. All around the globe, fashion was indeed enjoying a fabulous night out.

Target to Launch Go International Collective Line

Being in Canada and far from a Target store,  most of the Go International designer collections over the past few years have been sadly out of reach. Good news for people like me who’ve been in mourning over having missed Proenza Schouler, Erin Fetherston, Alice Temperley and the like – Target will be re-releasing 34 dresses from 17 past Go International collections on March 13, 2011!

Coined the Go International Designer Collective line, the collection will feature past designs from Luella Bartley, Tara Jarmon, Paul & Joe, Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, Libertine, Alice Temperley, Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, Rogan, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Thakoon, Tracy Feith, Rodarte, Zac Posen, and Tucker. I managed to get my hands on a few Proenza Schouler and Rodarte pieces in the past, but I plan on taking full advantage of this second chance. Very excited for this!

God Save the Queen Gala at The Room at the Bay

Me with Charlotte Olympia Dellal and her fabulous banana clutch

When the invite came for last week’s God Save the Queen: The Next British Invasion gala at The Room at the Bay (thanks to the Bay PR girls!), I’m pretty sure I squealed. And jumped up and down. And did a little dance. And then apologized to my fellow co-workers for disturbing our finance-related meeting. OK, I made most of that up, but I did immediately begin the party preparations in my head: trying out my British accent, planning my outfit, practicing my best curtsey for the Queen (scratch that – she wasn’t invited)…all very important stuff.

British Designers to Invade The Room at the Bay

I love all things British – afternoon tea is in my top 5 list of things to do, Little Britain makes me laugh so hard I spit my afternoon tea, and the Beckhams are my most favourite celebrity couple of all time. British designers, like Christopher Bailey, Stella McCartney and Hannah MacGibbon, also make my heart pitter patter season after season.

When I first heard that The Room at the Bay was going to be hosting a 2-day Brit designer extravaganza featuring the new wave of designer exports from the UK, I was elated. Charlotte Dellal (Charlotte Olympia), Erdem Moralioglu, Giles Deacon (design head of Emanuel Ungaro and his own eponymous line), Jonathan Saunders, Nicholas Kirkwood, Mark Fast, and Marios Schwab - all in one place, and in Toronto? Pure genius. The Room will be hosting an invite-only God Save the Queen gala on Thursday, October 14th, followed by a full day of The Next British Invasion events on Friday, October 15th that is open to the public and includes Spring 2011 trunk shows and a designer panel discussion.

The best of British design, a veritable who’s who of the Canadian fashion scene, and plenty of Beefeater gin to go around. This is going to be EPIC.
