The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – October 4, 2013 Edition

Alyssa Lau of Ordinary People, Edmonton

Black and white was undoubtedly the colour combo for the summer. Now that fall has arrived, Canadian style bloggers are transitioning their favourite black and white get-ups with pops of crimson red, and we’re loving the results.

This week alone, Ivy paired a sweet black and white daisy-print dress with a red hot hobo bag, Caillianne styled a whimsical red and black trompe l’oeil sweater dress with a red and white scarf and black gaucho hat, Alyssa sported a to-die-for black and white check bomber jacket with a red and white plaid pencil skirt, and Joandy wore a black and white tee with the word “red” inscribed on it (how perfect is that!) with a red plaid skirt of her own. Apparently, they all got the memo.

Did you?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – September 13, 2013 Edition

Raez Argulla of Cheap Thrills, Winnipeg

We may have had quite the heat wave in Toronto this week, but all signs point to the arrival of a new season.

Between Ania‘s killer red leather pants, Alyssa‘s super cute plaid varsity jacket and Élodie‘s fierce biker boots, it’s obvious that fall fashion is here. Mother Nature is catching up too: those are actual fallen leaves in Raez‘s style snap. It doesn’t get any realer than that.

Anik Lacasse-Richard of Montreal In Style, Montreal

Signs of autumn’s imminent arrival continue to show up in the ensembles of our favourite Canadian style bloggers. Anik‘s maroon felt bowler hat and matching ankle booties, Caillianne‘s bat sweater, Ania‘s long-sleeved patterned blouse…the transition to a new season is starting to happen.

Are you ready to embrace fall fashion, or are you holding on to your short shorts for dear life?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – June 28, 2013 Edition

Mo Handahu of Lion Hunter, Halifax

With the hot, hot, hot temperatures over the last week, summer dressing is officially underway. We’re absolutely delighted that romper season, in particular, has begun, and it looks like we’re not the only ones.

Joandy sported a striped, shawl collar romper this week with fierce gladiator heels for an uber chic getup. Mo donned what we thought was a whimsical, printed romper, but which upon a quick fact check turned out to be a matching top and shorts set. Romper or not, we’re in love with her look, denim, turban and all.

Do you share our fondness for rompers? Share in the comments!

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – May 24, 2013 Edition

Anik Lacasse-Richard of Montreal In Style, Montreal

Shorts season is officially here! It looks like style bloggers across the country have stored away their leather leggings for the season and finally taken their shorts out to play. We’re especially loving the shorts + outerwear looks we spotted on the Canadian style blogs this week.

Aliya wore her cute denim cut-offs under a classic beige trench, while Anik paired her chic black shorts with a smart camel coloured blazer. Vanessa went for an all black leather look, sporting her faux leather shorts with the coolest faux leather vest ever and a matching leather cap to boot. Black leather never looked so summer perfect.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – May 10, 2013 Edition

Sydney Hoffman for Lookbook.nu, Toronto

This week’s Lookbook is an unintentional ‘who wore it best?’ moment. A certain Zara fold over skort has become a favourite among Canadian style bloggers, and we’re loving all the different ways it’s being styled.

Ivy wore her white skort with a sculptural jacket and oversized printed tee for a futuristic vibe, while Joandy paired hers with floral, vintage Versace for a summery feel. Lisa went for a sportier look with her black skort, donning a chic blazer, dapper loafers and a cute panama hat for good measure.

So who wore it best? They’re all so good – it’s just impossible to choose just one.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – February 15, 2013 Edition

Ania Boniecka of Ania.B, Calgary

Not even a little snowstorm can slow our favourite Canadian style bloggers down. This week, it was all about the winter whites. Ania paired a lovely ivory dress with tough Doc Marten boots, while Liz sported a cozy-looking oatmeal sweater with jeans and an oversized plaid scarf in the colour of the season, oxblood.

The duo from Kastor & Pollux, Dani and Bianca, donned matching bright white and animal print ensembles for NYFW, which begs a very important question: why do we at The Backseat Stylers never match our outfits? Definitely something to think about.

All the gorgeous bags featured in this week’s Street Style Lookbook have S convinced that her bag collection is in need of a new companion.

I’m not much of a bag person myself, but even I can’t help but admire Michelle’s classic velvet Chanel Le Boy, Nelia’s stunning emerald Prada paillettes scale clutch, and Samantha’s fun Proenza Schouler camera leather shoulder bag. Which one is your favourite?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – January 4, 2013 Edition

Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit, Vancouver/Beijing

A few days ago S and I went outside – coatless – to take photos for our new feature, Shop Like a Backseat Styler, and I must say, it wasn’t easy. S suggested that I pose in the snow against a backdrop of conifers, which seemed like a great idea – very editorial – until I stepped onto the pristine layer of snow and my loafers disappeared in the snow. We nixed the plan for a scenic setting and decided to shoot in the middle of the street, and as S took shots of me I tried to pretend that the cold wind wasn’t blowing my hair into odd formations or making my teeth chatter. When we got home to look at the photos, I discovered that my desperate attempts to look casually cheerful had turned out looking more like a grimace….

How do style bloggers regularly brave the cold to share their outfits with us? On some occasions sheer willpower is sufficient to venture outdoors, but when that’s not enough amazing outerwear is the answer. Ania’s wool jacket stands out with its speckled texture and dramatic lapels, while Joandy’s sweeping coat combined with punches of bright yellow make for a powerful look. It should come as no surprise that the ever avant-garde Sam recently sported the cozy Maison Martin Margiela x H&M duvet jacket. I imagine it feels like a perpetual hug….

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – November 30, 2012 Edition

Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit, Vancouver/Beijing

As temperatures drop further and further down the thermometer, the wardrobe rotations of Canada’s style bloggers are getting darker and darker. Out with the colour-blocking, in with the black. But when everyone’s wearing black on black on black, a vibrant pop of colour is an uplifting sign that we may be chilled to the bone, but our sartorial spirit refuses to be dampened.

Vanessa‘s bright yellow sweater, Caillianne‘s multi-coloured tie-dye pants and Nelia‘s emerald green statement necklace brightened up their ensembles this week, and put a smile on my face too.
