Spotted from the Backseat: Operanation 2012 Edition

On October 18, the Canadian Opera Company held Operanation 9: Sweet Revenge, the 2012 edition of its annual fundraiser in support of the COC’s Ensemble Studio, its training program for young opera professionals. Operanation 8 was a fabulous fusion of music and fashion, and this year’s event was no less so. Toronto’s social set flocked to the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts for an evening featuring performances by none other than Canadian songbird Nelly Furtado and the 2012 Juno winner for Group of the Year the Arkells.

Vibrant prints weren’t on the dress code, but it sure looked as though it was: Knot PR’s Amy Burstyn-Fritz donned a beautiful Erdem gown, FASHION Magazine‘s Paige Dzenis chose an eye-catching abstract-print frock for the occasion, and Monica Mei sported a gorgeous floral-print and sheer number of her own design. Black and white was a favourite among the chic guests as well, with Rac Boutique’s Faith Orfus balancing an uncharacteristically girly lace dress with Balenciaga boots, jewelry designer Jenny Bird stepping out in a frilly lace top and suspendered pants, and actress Gabrielle Miller looking downright stunning in a design by Lucian Matis.

Operanation 9 was both a feast for the eyes and the ears. How will the COC top it next year? I can’t wait to find out.

Coveting from the Backseat: Jenny Bird ‘Seven Wonders’ Collar Necklace

Jenny Bird‘s Spring 2012 lookbook landed in my inbox earlier this week, filled with page after page of to-die-for jewelry. The Canadian designer’s latest collection launches on her e-shop later this month, and my wish list is already quite long.

At the very top of the list is the ‘Seven Wonders’ collar necklace. With its eye-catching combination of gold-toned spikes, turquoise beads and wood accents, this piece is all kinds of gorgeous. I’m not so patiently counting down the days until I can get my paws on it.

EXCLUSIVE: Jenny Bird x The Backseat Stylers 48-Hour 50% Off Sale!

It’s no secret that we at The Backseat Stylers love sales (S especially!). In fact, we’re old hats at them by now. Over the years, we’ve had entirely too much fun at sales of the sample, end-of-season, charity, auction and even warehouse variety. We’ve lined up for hours to be the first in the doors at the Hermès sale, stayed up way past bedtime with mouse at the ready for online Black Friday sales, and generally exhibited a whole lot of crazy to save money on things people say never go on sale.

As bonafide saleaholics, there’s just one thing we haven’t done yet, and that’s host a sale. It was only a matter of time, really, and today we’re excited to announce that we’re about to check that one off the bucket list, ladies and gents! The Backseat Stylers are partnering with one of our favourite jewelry designers, Canada’s own Jenny Bird, for an exclusive sale you won’t be able to resist (we know we won’t!). Featured in Vogue and Gossip Girl and stocked at some of our favourite shopping destinations like Shopbop and Intermix, Bird’s eponymous line of handbags and jewelry is everything we look for in our accessories: bold, statement-making and downright to-die-for. And, for the next 48 hours, on serious sale.

From now until December 10 at 12pm, use our exclusive code JBXBSS50 for 50% off any purchase on Jenny Bird’s online shop! There’s no catch – just gorgeous jewelry at amazing sale prices. With only 48 hours and inventory sure to sell out fast, we suggest you click on over there asap!

Beckermans x Jenny Bird x Dean Davidson x Upside Dive Sample Sale

On Feb. 4th and 5th, the sisterly style blogging phenomenons at Beckerman Bite Plate teamed up with Jenny Bird, Dean Davidson and Upside Dive for a 2-day sample sale extravaganza filled with clothing and accessories both new and vintage. I stopped by during the first hour of the sale – because I’m serious like that – and snagged a vintage tassel bracelet Jenny Bird found on a recent jaunt to NYC (I’ve been wearing it non-stop ever since). I felt like a kid in a candy store, and the fact that I managed to walk away from the sale with such a modest loot was a testament not to my willpower (I have none), but rather to my dedication to my day job (or fear of being fired) since I had a meeting to rush back to that afternoon. The truth of the matter is, I could’ve done some serious damage to the pocketbook at that sale. I’m going to have to pay visits to each of these designers to snag some of the pieces I left behind but am still dreaming of two weeks later.

Check out the eye candy, and click over to each designer’s site for purchase information. And if you were in Toronto that weekend but missed the sale, make sure you don’t miss out on the next one!
