Because we know you’re going to want to watch this one over and over again.
Edita Vilkeviciute sports H&M‘s key pieces for Spring 2014 in an online editorial, and we’re head over heels. The ladylike silhouettes, the chic colour palette of black, white and mustard yellow, the “big hair, don’t care” attitude – we plan to channel all of it once warmer weather hits.
When temperatures get bitterly cold, it’s so tempting to retreat into an abyss of black-on-black-on-black outfits, but Kristin of Doll Parade reminded us in a recent edition of The Canadian Street Style Lookbook how much more fun donning some bright pops of colour can be. The Frederictonian’s lovely canary yellow coat sent us on a search for fun coloured coats of our own, and chic options we found aplenty.
The front-runners? J.Crew‘s pale pink topcoat with black contrast collar (US$490), Wilfred‘s cranberry red tweed boyfriend coat ($225), and Nanette Lepore‘s army green fit-and-flare ‘Skyscape’ coat ($448). We’re thinking we can make a case for snagging all three. What do you think of these and our 22 other coat picks in all the colours of the rainbow – will you be embracing coloured outerwear this winter?
The holiday season is officially here: the mistletoe has been strategically placed, our addiction to candy cane hot chocolate is back with a vengeance, and Mariah Carey’s ‘Merry Christmas’ album is already on 24/7 repeat chez The Backseat Stylers. With exactly 30 days until Santa and his elves pay you a visit (or not, if you’re on that naughty list), we’re bringing back our second annual The Big Holiday Giveaway, 2 weeks of epic giveaways with a new one revealed every day. The best part? We don’t even care if you’ve been naughty this year – you’re still eligible to win by virtue of you being a lovely reader of this here blog (thank you!).
We’re kicking off the festivities with a contest for a $500 shopping spree at none other than…*dramatic drum roll, please*…H&M! The fast fashion retailer’s stores are currently filled to the brim with cheap and cheerful party-ready pieces and, in fact, $500 is just the right amount to refresh that holiday wardrobe. We’re not going to tell you how to spend your winnings, but here’s how we’d ensure we looked chic at every holiday shindig this year (clockwise from top left):
1. Beaded red dress ($39.95) – Every girl needs an LRD in their cocktail rotation, and this chic, easy-to-wear number is perfect for dancing the night away.
2. Metal clutch bag ($29.95) – A fabulous and versatile clutch is an essential for holiday dressing, and this metal shell chain bag is plenty of glam for your buck.
3. Faux fur coat ($129) – As far as statement coats go, it doesn’t get much better than this standout coloured and striped faux fur design.
4. Beaded necklace ($39.95) – A little drama goes a long way, and this bold and intricate piece will take any holiday ensemble to the next level.
5. Knitted jumper ($19.95) – Bright red embroidered lips make for a cheeky sweater that would pair perfectly with skinny jeans or an A-line skirt for a more casual but no less cute party look.
6. Embroidered kimono ($99) – This stunning chiffon kimono with shimmering gold floral embroidery is a holiday must-have that will undoubtedly become a year-round favourite.
7. Court shoes ($49.95) – Perfect for day-to-night, the basic black pump is taken to the next level with gorgeous metal detailing on the heel.
8. Studded bracelet ($9.95) – Nothing adds a touch of fierce quite like some stud action, and this incredibly well-priced bracelet certainly does the job.
Those 8 fabulous and festive items add up to $472 of swag, 13% taxes included (here in Ontario, anyway), leaving you some pocket change for a few pairs of cozy tube socks even.

Ever since we laid eyes on Nelia of Style Blog‘s croc-embossed leather skirt, we’ve been fighting the urge to steal it from her. What’s a leather skirt or two between friends? But rather than burglarize her closet, we instead decided to focus our energies on finding a stunning leather skirt all our own…legally.
What we found was 33 gorgeous reasons not to have to deprive Nelia of hers, and we’ve been daydreaming about them ever since. Between Givenchy‘s curved hem leather pencil skirt, Cedric Charlier‘s asymmetrical sheepskin skirt, and Lover‘s lace trim leather skirt, we’re sufficiently distracted enough to leave Nelia and her skirt alone. For now.
H&M launched its collaboration with French designer Isabel Marant with a well-attended Paris street party last night. For those of us whose Isabel Marant pour H&M wish lists get longer every time we take another peek at the lookbook, or spy another campaign image, pics from yesterday’s shindig will be some dangerous eye candy for you this morning.
H&M enlisted A-listers like January Jones, Freida Pinto, Audrey Tantou and Alice Dellal to celebrate their highly-anticipated collection with Isabel Marant. Check out the images below for an even closer look at some of the pieces in the line-up, and then triple check that the November 14 launch date is marked in your calendar!

With #Limsanity now over and done with, we’ve been hankering for a new high-low designer collaboration to obsessively plan our shopping list for, and now we’ve found it: the Isabel Marant pour H&M lookbook has leaked! Well, half of it, anyway.
The looks we’re seeing – modelled by the likes of Lou Doillon, Alek Wek and Milla Jovovich, no less – are getting us really, really excited for the November 14 launch date. Just as we’d hoped, the knits, dresses, jackets and more are very Marant indeed.
Check out the gallery below for a sneak peek, then stay tuned for the complete lookbook as soon as it drops. Are you feeling the collection so far?
Well that was quick – the complete lookbook has now been released! Check it out in all its glory in the gallery below. For kids’ apparel and menswear, click on over to Vogue.com. How long is that wish list getting? See you in line on November 14!
Baseball jackets are everywhere right now, both on the field and off. We’d managed to resist their charms until Alyssa of Ordinary People donned a geeky chic plaid version with a vintage feel last week. All of a sudden, we were searching the malls and the interwebs for our very own. Not only did we find some seriously stylish baseball jackets, but we got a tad carried away and came upon some pretty darn good varsity jackets and even bomber jackets too.
Check out the gallery below for 15 of our favourites right now, including an amazing printed neoprene jacket by Clover Canyon for $387 (not for the faint of heart), a Hudson’s Bay Company Olympic Collection varsity jacket that’s on sale for a mere $47.50 (for men’s, but we’d rock it), and the fiercest black quilted leather baseball jacket by Roots Canada for $568 (the very one first worn by Drake!).
Will you be sporting a baseball/varsity/bomber jacket too this fall?
We’ve been counting down the days until the launch of Isabel Marant pour H&M, but it turns out the fast fashion retailer has another highly covetable collection hitting stores before then. Remember that fashion show H&M held in Paris back in February? The runway designs will be available in stores starting September 5, and we want every single piece.
From the amazing embroidered flared skirt (USD$179) at the top of our wish list to the fierce velvet-collared jacket with epaulettes (USD$129) and wool biker jacket in white (USD$129) that aren’t far behind, the line-up is chock full of gorgeous fall pieces that also happen to be very pocketbook-friendly. Check out the gallery below for the complete ladieswear and accessories collection, and take a gander at the price list as well.
Which pieces are you eyeing?
Anya of I’m The It Girl is only a few weeks into her personal style blogging career, and she’s already killing it. Last week, we featured her super chic bustier + culottes ensemble in The Canadian Street Style Lookbook, and then immediately ran off to find our own. The perfect culottes are a challenge we promise to take on another day, but we took to the search for stylish and not too sexy bustiers right away.
The conclusion? They definitely exist! Exhibit #1: an artful Alexander McQueen honeycomb silk jacquard top for a whopping $2,535 (that’s already 70% off!). Exhibit #2: a pocketbook-friendly H&M white jersey bustier with cutouts for a night out on the town. Exhibit #3: a girly yet fierce Love Leather cropped top with a sweetheart neckline, USD$260 at Shopbop. And the list goes on, one fab bustier after another to sport under a blazer or pair with a cute skirt or skinny jeans.
Check out the gallery below for 16 of our favourites available in stores right now, and get ready to show some skin. But not too much, right Anya?
