Coveting from the Backseat: Gucci Kelis Suede Sandals

I came across the Gucci Kelis suede sandals this morning while surfing the Net-a-porter end of season sale and fell immediately head over heels. The  jewel toned suede, metallic python, slim platform and stiletto heel all combine for one of the sexiest shoes of the season. I’m not the only one to think so either, because these sandals have already graced the feet of the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Diane Kruger. I’m dying for a pair, but my size seems to already be sold out everywhere.

The Kelis sandals are available (in sizes other than my own) at Neiman Marcus for $795, but are due to go on sale in the immediate future, so keep an eye out!

Coveting from the Backseat: Gucci Tassel Belts

Ever since I spied the coolest tassel belt at the Aime by Monica Mei Spring 2010 show and failed to acquire one, finding a suitable alternative has been on my To Do list. I’d almost forgotten about this quest until I was reminded by Natalie Portman’s lovely tassel earrings at the Oscars last weekend, and suddenly I was on the hunt again. After an exhaustive online search that yielded surprisingly few results, I landed on Gucci.com and found the mother lode!

Gucci Handbags Collection Cruise 2011

Being a bag and shoe addict, the house of Gucci has historically been a favourite of mine. Some very fabulous pieces from the Tom Ford era have passed through my closet in the last few years (read: Blondie bowlers and horsebit clutches). I started to move away from monogrammed bags a while back, and that’s when my relationship with Gucci came to a screeching halt. When the company announced that it would be moving towards fewer logos last year, I had a sneaking suspicion that we might become friends again.

I was right. When I spied photos of the Cruise 2011 accessories collection I knew the time had come for Gucci and me to get acquainted again. The designs, from the colours to the textures to the tassels and braided details, are incredibly rich. The collection as a whole, though it still features some monogrammed bags, is much more about quiet luxury than loud logos. For the first time in a long time, I find myself once again enamoured with Gucci’s handbag offerings – I’ve just added half the collection to my Spring wish list.

Don’t look now Kaiser Karl – I’m sneaking into a Gucci boutique and might not resurface for a while!

New Year’s Resolutions Progress Report – January 2010

I’m not going to lie – one month into the year and I’ve already fallen off the wagon a ridiculous number of times. There was the Barneys sale, a certain obsession with stripes, the Zara clearance, The Room visit…ooops. It’s excruciatingly difficult to keep what was essentially a New Year’s resolution to not buy any more clothing or accessories at all, especially when fall/winter sales and new spring merchandise are constantly luring you to the dark side.

There were, however, a few triumphs (though few and far between) along this path of pocketbook destruction. This post is dedicated to those items I did manage to begrudgingly convince myself to pass on and somehow managed to live on and tell the story. The classic Burberry safari jacket (I feel a slight twinge of regret on this one), the TDF Chanel charms flap (way beyond my current handbag budget of NIL), the Gucci silver sequin slingbacks (these were rather unwillingly let go since gucci.com doesn’t accept international credit cards), the 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2010 ribbon tie cocoon cardigan (I decided this could be a great DIY opportunity instead), and the pink Hermes Bolduc au Carre scarf (owning the same scarf in a third colourway seemed a bit overboard, but I still considered it), were all sacrificed for a greater good.

February should be a safer month than January was. By December, I’m hoping that I’ll have passed on more items that month than I’ll have purchased – quite a tall order for a self-proclaimed shopaholic like myself. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…

Gucci Holiday Shopping Night – November 24, 2009

Just a reminder that Gucci’s annual Holiday Shopping Night is on November 24, 2009. The boutiques will generously take 10% off the price of seasonal items that won’t be included in the upcoming fall/winter sale and classics that are never marked down. I know 10% isn’t much, but it’s certainly better than 0%…*wink*.

Gucci Online Presale on Now

The frenzy that always surrounds Gucci’s semi-annual sales began today, as the online presale started and anxious customers clicked through those virtual boutique doors and picked up bags, shoes and RTW at 40% off. There was uncharacteristically nothing for me, despite much scouring of the shoe section, but here are my top 5 picks of the sale:

The sale officially begins December 1st, 2009, but the in-store presale begins tomorrow. Their annual Holiday Shopping Night is on November 24th, during which the whole store is 10% off, including classic styles that never go on sale except on this one day each year.

Tom Ford Plotting His Return

WWD reports that Tom Ford has finally confirmed that he plans to launch the Tom Ford brand’s first women’s wear collection very soon. My thoughts instantly jump to the genius accessories he designed during his last few seasons at Gucci – namely bags from the Dragon line, the Blondie line, etc. I’m curious as to whether his first collection will include accessories and, if it does, whether the Tom Ford aesthetic will be reminiscent of his glory days at Gucci, or whether his collection will be completely different from that of the established design house he was previously charged with interpreting and revamping. One thing’s for certain – this is a collection years in the making that will have the industry and fashion mavens around the world holding their breaths until they catch their first glimpses of that highly anticipated first collection.

Gucci Presale on Now

Nothing caused me to whip out the wallet when J and I dropped by the Gucci boutique in Toronto this past Thursday in advance of the presale, and with the presale now online I’m happy and relieved to report that there will be no mad purchasing of shoes at this season’s sale…phew! Not to say though that there isn’t anything I’m drooling over – there are some truly fabulous RTW pieces on sale that I would love to get my grubby little hands on…but not anytime soon unfortunately.
