Admiring from the Backseat: Fashion’s Night Out 2012 Edition

Alexa Chung in Moschino

Fashion industry insiders and fans around the world celebrated the fourth edition of Fashion’s Night Out on September 6, and a few of our favourite celebrities joined in on the sartorial fun. In New York, Alexa Chung donned Moschino to host and DJ the brand’s FNO festivities, while Jennifer Hudson attended QVC’s event in whimsical Charlotte Olympia pumps and a little red dress from her line for the television shopping network.

On the other side of the pond, Cheryl Cole chose a lace and velvet peplum number for a FNO date with Giuseppe Zanotti, and actress Amber Anderson wore a white Jonathan Saunders frock to the Mulberry bash. Miranda Kerr took part in FNO festivities too, sporting a printed Erdem dress to a party for her skincare line in Australia. All around the globe, fashion was indeed enjoying a fabulous night out.

Stylin’ from the Backseat: In The Y-Mail

I dug this dress, tags still attached, out of the darkest recesses of my wardrobe this weekend. I was scouring my closet for an ensemble to wear to a work function, and this chic LBD with its puff shoulders and cute velvet bows caught my eye.

I styled the dress with a pair of rather sensible looking shoes (yes, 4” high pumps with crystal embellishments are sensible to me) and my beloved YSL Y-Mail clutch for a pop of colour. A dab of red on the lips, and I was good to go, in 20 minutes flat. Not too shabby, I’d say, given that my prep time is usually double that.

The time I saved went towards such important matters as photographing the outfit for this very post. Good thing I have my priorities straight.

SSENSE.com Sale Pick of the Week!

I was surfing the SSENSE sale section for our pick of the week when I came across the ‘Sharon’ pump from Guiseppe Zanotti. Name a shoe after me and you’re pretty much guaranteed a post and maybe even my money. Good thing it’s a hot shoe; they could have named a really horrid looking pair after me, but instead it’s a delightful leopard print pony hair concoction. And it’s even 30% off right now.

Check out last week’s picks from the SSENSE sale here.

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Shameless

Yesterday I posted style snaps from this year’s Operanation 8: A Muse Ball, and guess what? I wore clothes to the Ball too. More specifically, I donned my favourite David Dixon dress. The last time I took my sample sale find out for a spin was to Prom at the ROM earlier this year, when the “Into the Wild” theme of the event called for an animalistic approach to styling. This time, though, I needed an ensemble that would take me from the last day of shows at LG Fashion Week straight to Operanation.

Dressing for two events is always tricky; inevitably I find myself overdressed for one shindig and under-dressed for the other. On this particular day, I seemed to have pulled it off. In fact, Sabrina declared, “If I had a street style blog, I’d be all over you,” or something of that sort. A ringing endorsement, indeed! But since she doesn’t have one, and I happen to, I did the job myself. Ever the shameless style blogger.

Lexus CT 200h Launch Event with Melanie Doane

I recently attended a launch event for the Lexus CT 200h, the world’s first compact luxury hybrid. It was a lovely evening hosted by Ken Shaw Lexus here in Toronto that included a cocktail reception and a private mini-concert by Juno-award winning singer-songwriter Melanie Doane. My takeaways from that evening? Hybrids are where it’s at, fiddles are cool (thanks to Doane’s inspiring performance), and I apparently had the hottest shoes of the night, according to a stranger in the know.

Coveting from the Backseat: Giuseppe Zanotti Silk Bow Sandal

Be still my girly, bow-loving heart. I’ve never seen a bow-embellished shoe I didn’t like, and these Giuseppe Zanottis are no exception. I love that they’re available in two very different but equally beguiling fabrics, an angelic ivory silk chiffon and a vampy leopard-print silk satin. The question is, which to choose - uptown or downtown? Cast your votes please!

Available at Neiman Marcus in ivory silk chiffon for $850 and Luisa Via Roma in leopard silk satin for $1,043.50.

Giuseppe Zanotti Moon Jewel Pumps

Holt Renfrew Last Call is currently running a promotion whereby all coats and shoes are an additional 30% off – could there be anything more dangerous to a coat and shoe addict such as me? Like a kid in a candy store, I scoured the store yesterday for all things fabulous in my size. Though I sadly had to leave behind an adorable ivory wool coat by Giambattista Valli, I managed to score these Giuseppe Zanotti moon jewel pumps I was eyeing last fall/winter but never found at a justifiable price. At 65% off, how could I possibly not take them home with me?

If you also missed these last fall/winter and can’t make it to HR Last Call, these stunning pumps are also available online at departementfeminin.com, though sadly at regular price.
