Keira Knightley at A Dangerous Method London premiere
Roksanda Ilincic is making a quick jaunt over the pond for a visit at The Room at The Bay in Toronto today, and we couldn’t be more excited to meet her. Worn by the likes of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Gwyneth Paltrow and Michelle Obama, the London-based designer is known for red carpet-ready dresses that are feminine, colourful and whimsical.
But don’t just take our word for it. Check out Roksanda Ilincic’s top 5 celebrity red carpet moments to date, including Ginnifer Goodwin in a to-die-for pink frock at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards and Keira Knightley in that unforgettable black and white number at the London premiere of A Dangerous Method in 2011.

Diane Kruger in custom Nina Ricci at Cannes International Film Festival
From awards shows to movie premieres to fashion parties, it’s been quite a year on the red carpets. We saw new sartorial heroines emerge, like Jennifer Lawrence during her Hunger Games promotional tour, as well as established greats like Michelle Williams and Diane Kruger continue to bring their A games. With stunning look after stunning look to choose from, selecting a short list of the 10 best dressed of 2012 was a near impossible task. With much deliberation, we finally settled on the 10 that made our jaws drop and raised the red carpet bar.
What do you think of our top 10 best dressed of the year – did we nail it, or did we miss some of your favourites? Do tell!

Elisha Cuthbert
The 2012 American Music Awards were held last night in Los Angeles, and though I missed them I obviously caught up on the red carpet fashion this morning. It wasn’t the Oscars, that’s for sure, but there were a few pleasant surprises – five, to be exact.
Elisha Cuthbert, who I now have a soft spot for ever since she donned that incredible VAWK dress, stunned in a glamourous gold column gown by Georges Chakra. Kerry Washington was a ray of sunshine in yellow lace Stella McCartney, Stacy Keibler showed off her gams in a Collette Dinnigan embellished mini, and red carpet favourite Ginnifer Goodwin was pretty in pale pink Oscar de la Renta.
Rounding out the top five was rapper Nicki Minaj - yes, you read right! – who looked the best I’ve ever seen her, unhinged facial expressions aside. She cleaned up nice in a bright coloured Monique Lhuillier gown. How shocked must Monique have been to get that phone call?
Who were your best dressed at the 2012 AMA’s?

Kerry Washington

Ginnifer Goodwin

January Jones in Zac Posen
The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards took place last night, giving us our first real awards show red carpet fix in several months. Obviously, we were delighted! So much so that we were even happy to see Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Osbourne again…ssshhh, don’t tell anyone.
Our greatest pleasure by far, however, was spotting January Jones in a stunning black Zac Posen number; in fact, there may have been some squealing and jumping up and down. She just looked that fabulous. Ginnifer Goodwin, who’s become a reliable source for gorgeous red carpet looks over the last few years, didn’t disappoint either, donning a floral and vine embellished orange frock by Monique Lhuillier.
We’re now new fans of Mad Men‘s Jessica Pare, who was the picture of classic Hollywood glamour in a custom black-and-white Jason Wu. Julianna Margieles also surprised us, walking the red carpet in a floral-printed green and purple Giambattista Valli gown. Julianne Moore rounds out our Emmys best dressed list; she looked like a ray of sunshine in a long-sleeved yellow Dior Couture gown that complemented her red hair beautifully.
We absolutely loved all the vibrant colours on the Emmys red carpet this year, but it was a head-to-toe black-clad January Jones who came away with the best dressed title by our measure. Who were your sartorial favourites at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards?

I’ve been a big fan of Ginnifer Goodwin‘s style ever since she donned a gorgeous green custom Topshop dress to last year’s Met Ball. Sporting a design by a fast fashion retailer on one of the most glamourous red carpets of the year takes sartorial courage, of which Ginnifer isn’t lacking apparently, because she just did it again this past weekend at the 2012 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The actress wore a stunning gown by H&M – yes, that H&M! – to The White House for a fancy dinner with the Obamas. Impressive.
The limited edition evening dress with organza crease plissé meringue skirt is from H&M’s red carpet Conscious Collection, and sold for a mere $299 when it launched earlier this month. Not only was Ginnifer’s dress environmentally-friendly and thousands of dollars cheaper than the other attendees’ gowns, but she was also best dressed of the evening, in my books. Take that, Rachel Zoe.

January Jones in Carolina Herrara Pre-Fall 2011 at the 17th Screen Actors Guild Awards
The end of a year always brings about an overabundance of ‘best of’ lists, so of course we had to contribute one of our own. Putting together a list of the top ten red carpet looks of 2011 was a surprisingly easy task. These 9 women – 8 actresses and 1 real life princess – and their 10 ensembles (Emma Stone is listed twice!) were clear standouts in our eyes. So much so that we’re not even going to bother to explain our choices – these stunning looks speak for themselves. Plus, we’re still recovering from our holiday turkey feast.
From Anne Hathaway‘s sequin Armani Privé to Cate Blanchett‘s lavender Givenchy, these are the types of clothes that make us wish that we too were Hollywood actresses or fairy tale princesses whose job descriptions included gracing red carpets in couture. But, alas, we are not…yet. So until such day that fact changes, we’ll settle for daydreaming about strutting our stuff in January Jones‘ gold lace gown by Carolina Herrera and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge‘s blush sequin dress by Jenny Packham instead.

Just like that, the Superbowl of fashion, otherwise known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, has come and gone for another year. And, like every other fashion blog in existence, we at The Backseat Stylers are obliged to choose our candidates for best dressed among the many who graced the Met Ball’s red carpet last night. At the very top of our list, rather unexpectedly, is Ginnifer Goodwin in an emerald green custom Topshop dress (pictured above). If anyone had predicted a week ago that Goodwin would be the one to stand out in the crowd, in Topshop no less, I’d have called you crazy. Gisele (in the background wearing red Alexander McQueen) is even jealous.

Liv Tyler in Givenchy Haute Couture Spring 2011 is an easy pick for me; I can’t get enough of that breathtaking collection. Riccardo Tisci can do no wrong these days, and his incredible creation more than makes up for Tyler’s rather bland hair and makeup.

Diane Kruger can be hit-or-miss on the red carpet, but when she gets it right, the results are stunning. This Jason Wu Fall 2011 gown has just the right amount of sparkle and a whole lot of leg going on. Miss Kruger wins the prize for the sexiest look of the night hands down. Joshua Jackson is one lucky man!

Daphne Guinness in a Alexander McQueen feathered concoction from Sarah Burton’s Spring 2011 collection for the design house is in a league of her own. The spectacle of her getting dressed for the Ball in the Barney’s display window and the drama of her look from head to toe were just so McQueen. I’m dying to see her exhibit at the Fashion Institute of Technology this Fall.

Freida Pinto in Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2010 is a controversial pick, but I adore the look. Though Blake Lively, Anna Wintour and Kristen Dunst all rocked Chanel Haute Couture last night, Pinto’s glamourous tuxedo-inspired gown was by far my favourite.
Which red carpet looks from Met Ball 2011 made your best dressed list?
