Club Monaco Fall 2010 Lookbook by Garance Doré

There was a time when Club Monaco made up more of my work wardrobe than any other label, but in recent seasons I’ve found their offerings rather drab. When I heard that CM had hired Garance Doré to shoot their Fall 2010 lookbook, my interest was again piqued. Surely a label that’s doing shoe collaborations with Belle by Sigerson Morrison and photo shoots with Garance is worth a look. When an e-mail from CM popped up in my inbox this morning heralding the arrival of the lookbook, I rushed over to the website to check it out.
The verdict? I’m left wanting more. The shots are fantastic and classic Garance, but the clothes themselves, or perhaps the styling of them, sadly leave me feeling uninspired, save for a few standouts I’ve posted above. You can see the full lookbook here to decide for yourself.

One and the Same

Garance Dore, The Cherry Blossom Girl

Last November, I triumphantly reported that I’d managed to locate a Stella McCartney x GapKids band jacket for myself. Winter then got in the way and I haven’t had the opportunity to take it out for a spin, but there’s been plenty of wear by other lucky jacket owners, including the cutest little boy named Miles on Garance Dore’s blog, The Cherry Blossom Girl and even French First Lady Carla Bruni, who’ve been wearing theirs out and about. I love how the jacket goes with everything from a Beatles t-shirt (how clever!) to a very ladylike dress and motorcycle boots. I can’t wait to give the jacket my own particular brand of styling. Stay tuned…

Double Take

I got a text from the younger Backseat Styler this morning to check out Style Sightings, but she didn’t say why. As I scrolled down the street style photos trying to identify what it was that T wanted me to see, I suddenly did a double take at the photos of Garance Doré. Was Garance wearing the very same Zara wool military-inspired cape T and I each bought on ridiculous sale (70% off) for $40 a few weeks ago? We’re used to seeing Miss Garance in her fabulous camel MaxMara coat, so surely it couldn’t be? But close examination of the photos reveals that it was indeed one and the same!

I was quite confident in my cape purchase (especially given the steal that it was), but it gives me just the slightest bit of pleasure knowing that Garance deems our little cape worthy of rubbing shoulders with Anna Dello Russo and the rest of the Vogue Nippon team. I’m curious though – did Garance scour through the Zara sale racks like we did to find this gem?
