Diane Von Furstenberg Designing DVF for GapKids and babyGap Spring 2012 Capsule Collection

Rumours started swirling last month that Diane von Furstenberg was in the process of designing a capsule collection for Gap. Fond memories of my Stella McCartney x GapKids haul came flooding back and I’ve been awaiting confirmation of this collaboration, which finally landed in my inbox this morning. According to WWD, DVF for GapKids and babyGap will be available next Spring, and will include a collection for baby girls up to age two, another collection for girls from ages two to 14, as well as some unisex baby items.

Art Peck, President of Gap North America, said the collaboration combines von Furstenberg’s “signature approach to print, optimistic color and femininity” with Gap’s “expertise in great quality premium children’s clothing at accessible prices.” I, for one, have been dreaming of a lower-priced remake of my favourite DVF dress of all time, a teal floral silk organza dress from Spring 2008 (which I spotted on a Prom at the ROM partygoer recently). Produce it in a girls’ size 14 that will fit me, and I’ll be happy as a clam, Diane!

The collection will be available starting March 2012 in GapKids and babyGap stores in almost 30 countries, including the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., as well as online in 75 countries.

Like Child’s Play

Over the past few years, there are certain style blogs that have emerged as requisite reading for the fashion-obsessed. You know which ones I mean – they’re the same handful of blogs listed on every fashion blogger’s blog roll. I visit these blogs religiously almost more out of habit and a unhealthy fascination with strangers’ outfits than anything else; certainly I don’t often look to these blogs for style inspiration. The problem is that what these bloggers wear doesn’t fit my lifestyle. The clothes are often too wild or revealing for my tastes, the usual accessory overkill doesn’t work when I have a baby in my arms 24/7, and there just isn’t a lot of opportunity to really get crazy with my outfits when I have a 9 to 5 that requires conservative dress. It’s happened before here and there, but it really is rare that a style photo inspires me to run out and buy something that wasn’t already on my wishlist.

This past week, though, I clicked over to the Tiny Tine’s site and found Chris’ latest outfit post. I fell immediately in love with her Stella McCartney for GapKids sailor shorts and her incredibly chic styling of them. I knew in that moment that I had to have those shorts. I’d pounced on the collection as soon as it launched (though I ended up returning all but the Bea ruffle top), but had somehow overlooked these shorts and their potential. Yesterday I stopped by a GapKids store and nabbed the last pair of these shorts in the largest size they’re made. I admit that the shorts don’t fit me quite as perfectly as they do Chris (damn those post-baby hips of mine), but I adore them. I’ll make them work…even if it means having to do a few crunches now and then!

Oops, I Did It Again…

…I raided GapKids, not for Baby Backseat Styler but for myself. But in all fairness it was the Stella McCartney x GapKids Spring 2010 collection, which I knew I wasn’t going to be able to resist given my obsession with their last collaboration.

I initially only intended on getting the Bea ruffle top, but when the collection finally launched in Canada last week, the temptation got the best of me. I went home not only with the top, but also a girls’ anchor tank dress (not a dress on me), a boys’ anchor sweater and a boys’ gingham jacket.
I have 30 days to decide whether I look like an adult wearing kids clothing. I highly suspect the answer might be a resounding ‘yes’.

Stella McCartney for GapKids Spring 2010 – Preview

The Stella McCartney for GapKids Spring 2010 collection launched today in the US, but the rest of the world, including Canada, will have to wait until next Tuesday, March 30th. In the meantime, there are preview pics to tide us over. There isn’t anything that has me overly excited this time around, but that may change once I see the collection in person. So far I just have my eye on that denim blouse (for me, not Baby Backseat Styler).
See more preview pics here.

One and the Same

Garance Dore, The Cherry Blossom Girl

Last November, I triumphantly reported that I’d managed to locate a Stella McCartney x GapKids band jacket for myself. Winter then got in the way and I haven’t had the opportunity to take it out for a spin, but there’s been plenty of wear by other lucky jacket owners, including the cutest little boy named Miles on Garance Dore’s blog, The Cherry Blossom Girl and even French First Lady Carla Bruni, who’ve been wearing theirs out and about. I love how the jacket goes with everything from a Beatles t-shirt (how clever!) to a very ladylike dress and motorcycle boots. I can’t wait to give the jacket my own particular brand of styling. Stay tuned…

Stella McCartney for GapKids – Sneak Peek

As reported back in November, a second Stella McCartney for GapKids collection is set to launch later this month on March 25th in North America and March 29th in Europe. Given how well I made out when the first collection was released last November, I’ve been on the edge of my seat waiting for previews of round 2. Finally a party was thrown this past Tuesday fêting the collaboration, allowing us to catch a first glimpse at the collection. Right off the bat I see stripes and I see an anchor and my interest is piqued. In fact, the little girl to the far right seems to be wearing a dress that very closely resembles a Stella McCartney anchor intarsia sweater I debated a while back, but costing a mere fraction of the original’s price tag I’m sure.

Here’s hoping for more previews over the next week so I know what I’m getting up early for on March 25th!

Stella McCartney for Gap Kids & Baby Gap – Round Two

WWD reports that Stella McCartney has signed on for a second collaboration with Gap Kids and Baby Gap after the overwhelming success of the first collection. The spring collection will be due out in March, at which time I will begin a second round of stalking of Gap Kids stores. Hmm…that sounds a little creepy, but you know what I mean.

Round one of Stella for Gap was quite a success for me, as I reported earlier, and I unexpectedly added to my loot yesterday with the purchase of a fourth piece – this pretty silk flower appliqué tunic, which is perfect for the holidays!

And now I will stop buying kids’ clothes for myself…till March rolls around and I’m at it again.

P.S. This reminds me of the last Family Guy episode I saw, during which Stewie said to Brian: “Hey Brian, will you take me down to Baby Gap? I want to dress like a small douche.”

Gap / Banana Republic / Old Navy Friends & Family

This is what’s keeping me rather occupied today. Between new clothes for Baby Backseat Styler, jewelry for me and something for Mr. Backseat Styler so he doesn’t feel left out, I’ve got a whole day’s work ahead of me!

Stella McCartney for Gap Kids – Success at Last!

My last post on the Stella for Gap collection was a rather pathetic confession that I had somehow managed to miss its launch and snag nothing. To make up for my forgetfulness, I have been incredibly diligent in my hunt for a band jacket this past week – some might say stalkerish. I called daily (sometimes long distance) to find out when new shipments were arriving at each of the 4 stores in Toronto. I even ran unshowered with my baby to the store one day only to find they had only received three band jackets in the previous night’s shipment and not even in my size. Panic started to set in as day after day I was told that replenishments had not arrived and I watched the band jackets sell for double their retail on eBay; I started to fear that I would never get my grubby little hands on one.

Fast forward to yesterday when I was doing my regular round of calls to the stores to find out what had arrived in last night’s shipment. Two phone calls down and no luck and I was starting to think to myself yet again, “Better luck tomorrow”, when – rather unexpectedly – a Baby Gap angel on the other end of the line informed me that they did, in fact, have a band jacket in XXL that had arrived the night before, and did I want to put it on hold? O. M. G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot begin to describe my elation. And sense of accomplishment. It was as if I had just been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Boy did I feel triumphant.

So after much hard work, I managed to snag three pieces from the collection – my beloved band jacket (which fit perfectly!), the little boys’ leopard sweater (I don’t normally do animals or animal prints, but this sweater is beyond cute) and the little girls’ cable knit belted cardigan (unexpectedly chic and comfy).

Wish I could’ve rocked the tutu, but I’m thinking I’m just a tad too old and too big for it. But only a tad. Mr. Backseat Styler is very grateful for that tad I’m sure.

Tutu or not, I’m feeling rather satisfied with the fruits of my labour. So much so that I’ve decided I’m going to skip the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection. I’ll leave the madness to the rest of the city’s JC fans. I’m all collabo’d out. Until perhaps Sonia Rykiel for H&M.

Stella McCartney for Gap Kids in Canada

A mere 7 locations across Canada to meet our Stella for Gap needs. I’m feeling rather spoiled here in Toronto with 4 of them!
