VAWK and eBay Team Up on a Second Capsule Collection for Holiday 2013

Following the success of their partnership this past summer, VAWK and eBay have announced a second capsule collection, due to hit the online auction site just in time for the holidays. “Instead of just bringing back the items we created from the last collection, I spiced them up for the holidays,” says VAWK creative director Sunny Fong. And that he did.

The limited edition line-up with feature 9 familiar styles that have been amped up with sequins, leather studs and fox fur. If you missed them the first time around, you won’t want to make that mistake again: the party-ready Manta dress, Manta caplet, studded accessories and printed silks are sure to sell out faster than you can say “buy-it-now”. Available from Dec 2nd to 8th, the collection will be sold at auction (starting at $99 for the Manta dress) and at buy-it-now prices ranging from $59 for an embossed leather cuff to $105 for a zebra-print scarf.

The pièce de résistance, the stunning, one-of-a-kind white Manta gown, will be auctioned off at a starting bid of $0.99, with proceeds to benefit Kids Help Phone. It’s designed to fit sizes 2 to 8, and destined for a bidding war. If you’re eyeing the gown, be warned: S wants it, and she’s officially throwing down the gauntlet. All for a great cause, right?

VAWK for eBay Limited Edition Collaboration to Launch in August

It’s no secret by now that we here at The Backseat Stylers are huge fans of Toronto-based designer Sunny Fong and his label VAWK. There’d be even more VAWK in our joint closet if our bank accounts allowed for it, so we’re very excited about Sunny’s latest venture: an extremely pocketbook-friendly collaboration with eBay Canada.

Sunny has designed a limited edition, 7-piece collection of clothing and accessories to be sold exclusively on eBay. Each piece is being created by hand and with fabrics and materials used in VAWK’s main line. From $59 for a lizard-embossed leather cuff with fox fur to $119 for a chic black shift dress, all items will be sold at fixed Buy It Now! prices with free shipping in Canada. In short, the collection is a STEAL and we’re dying for every single piece, especially that leather skinny tie.

Check out the gallery below for the complete VAWK for eBay line-up, and mark your calendars for the launch on August 12! The designs will be produced in very limited quantities, and you won’t want to miss out on the chance to snag some gorgeous VAWK pieces at such incredible prices.

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Mellow Yellow

My closet has been undergoing a colour evolution over the past year, and this Viktor & Rolf sale find from The Room at The Bay was the most surprising addition to date. Me in mustard yellow? Never would I have imagined! It’s never had a place in my wardrobe until this very blazer, and now I’m wondering where it’s been all my life. In fact, I’m so enamoured by the jacket that I wore it for a recent shoot for eBay.

I’m currently featured in the eBay Style Stories series. In the interview, I’m asked to divulge my favourite eBay find ever (too many to name, really!), what’s next on my must-buy list (hint: a piece from a Toronto-based jewelry designer), and my eBay saved search terms (top secret info!). Find out all of that and more about yours truly in the story here.

eBay Holiday 2012 Designer Collaboration – Sneak Peek!

Last week, eBay announced that the online auction site had partnered with seven designers on a limited edition holiday 2012 collection. On Wednesday, the 40+ pieces created by Dana Lorenz of Fallon, Jonathan Adler, Billy Reid, Chris Benz, Steven Alan, Amy Smilovic of Tibi and Ruffian designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais were unveiled.

All priced under $100, the collection features men’s and women’s clothing, jewelry, travel and electronics accessories and home décor. Standout pieces include a gorgeous choker by Fallon, a sweatshirt with a lace penguin by Tibi, and silk twill pajamas by Chris Benz. I certainly wouldn’t mind any or all of the above under my Christmas tree…hint, hint.

The collection will be available through eBay’s Fashion Vault starting November 12. Will you be bidding buying?

eBay Partners With Fallon, Tibi and 5 Other Designers on Exclusive Holiday 2012 Collection

Holiday 2012 is shaping up to be more dangerous for the pocketbook than all holiday seasons before it.

On the heels of an announcement just last week by Target and Neiman Marcus of an exclusive holiday collection created by 24 CFDA designers, WWD reports today that eBay has also partnered with 7 designers on the eBay Holiday Collective. Billy Reid, Chris Benz, Fallon, Jonathan Adler, Ruffian, Steven Alan and Tibi have each created at least 5 gift items for the 40+ piece collection of limited-edition men’s and women’s clothing, jewelry, travel and electronics accessories and home decor.

“The eBay Holiday Collective marks another milestone for eBay in the fashion category,” said Jeff Somers, the general manager of eBay Fashion. “Similar to the recently announced Neiman’s and Target and Nordstrom and Topshop collaborations, our partnerships are another sign of the retail revolution under way. As consumers seek seamless, multichannel, anytime-anywhere shopping, creative collaborations point to the future of commerce. Our focus is on enabling commerce, and we’re achieving that by serving as a partner to retailers of all sizes.”

The collection will be available starting November 12 through eBay’s Fashion Vault, so mark your calendars. In the meantime, I can’t wait to find out more specifics on the gift items, especially the pieces by Dana Lorenz of Fallon. “It has always been my goal that Fallon be an attainable collection for the fashion conscious,” said Lorenz. As a huge fan of Fallon jewelry, this is all sounding mighty good to me.

Narciso Rodriguez for eBay

The Narciso Rodriguez for eBay collection launched yesterday and I must admit that I’m rather underwhelmed. The trench is reversible, which is an interesting twist, but the rest of the pieces are on the bland side. At a time when quality collaborations are being launched almost monthly, there’s no room for boring, and there just isn’t anything to get excited about in this collection.

eBay Find: Frye Paige Tall Riding Boots

I’ve been dying for a pair of riding boots since the weather started getting a little nippy, but had been left to admire others’ boots with none of my own. Why didn’t I just go out and buy a pair? Because paying regular price for anything offends me so, and buying riding boots at the beginning of fall does not usually involve discounts of any sort. Unless you are me, and eBay is your friend. In fact, eBay and I have been great friends the past 10 years. And when I say ‘friend’, I mean it the way a druggie would call crack her friend. But I digress.
Having decided that I must have a pair of Fryes (somewhere along the line the younger Backseat Styler convinced me that the Frye Dorados I was coveting so much weren’t as fab as I thought), I went to my friend eBay for help in locating a pair of Frye Paige Tall Riding Boots at below retail. And boy did my longtime friend come through. I beat out one other bidder to secure my beloved Frye Paiges at over 55% off the Canadian retail of CAD$448. Yeeeehaw! (Such an appropriate celebratory yell for equestrian boots, LOL). My new boots arrived this week brand spankin’ new in its Frye box with even a Zappos sticker on it. And they are every bit as fab as I expected!
This post has two key messages I’d like to convey:
(1) The Frye Paige Tall Riding Boots are awesome! They’re very well made and comfy, fit perfectly over jeans and are super chic. Buy yourself a pair at Zappos now for US$352 (they ship to Canada) or at Capezio for CAD$448. Orrrrr, see message #2 below.
(2) If you know exactly what you want (and are comfortable with sizing), eBay is a fantastic place to find current season bargains. But be careful – eBay is beyond addictive…trust me. Arm yourself with a bit of restraint and eBay can be your friend too. Happy bidding!

I can’t wait to wear my new boots! Knowing that I got them at such a fabulous price will surely add an extra spring to my step.

Recent eBay purchases

I recently bought these items from eBay. The glasses were described as “hip hop,” the shirt as “new wave,” and the boots as “fab” by their sellers. I’m hoping that when I wear these items (simultaneously, obviously) their respective descriptions will be projected onto me. I will be a fab new wave gangster…not a hot mess.

Annex:
Now all you need is a pair of cut-off denim shorts to complete the look. And printed leggings perhaps. Sooo gangsta.

You won’t be making fun of me when I get a feature in Vogue because of my trendsetting ways!
