VAWK for eBay Limited Edition Collaboration to Launch in August

It’s no secret by now that we here at The Backseat Stylers are huge fans of Toronto-based designer Sunny Fong and his label VAWK. There’d be even more VAWK in our joint closet if our bank accounts allowed for it, so we’re very excited about Sunny’s latest venture: an extremely pocketbook-friendly collaboration with eBay Canada.

Sunny has designed a limited edition, 7-piece collection of clothing and accessories to be sold exclusively on eBay. Each piece is being created by hand and with fabrics and materials used in VAWK’s main line. From $59 for a lizard-embossed leather cuff with fox fur to $119 for a chic black shift dress, all items will be sold at fixed Buy It Now! prices with free shipping in Canada. In short, the collection is a STEAL and we’re dying for every single piece, especially that leather skinny tie.

Check out the gallery below for the complete VAWK for eBay line-up, and mark your calendars for the launch on August 12! The designs will be produced in very limited quantities, and you won’t want to miss out on the chance to snag some gorgeous VAWK pieces at such incredible prices.

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target to Hit Stores This Fall

It’s turning out to be a busy year for Target on the designer collaboration front. First Prabal Gurung, then Kate Young, and now? 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Yes, you read right: the popular New York-based contemporary designer (and one of our favourites!) has created a limited edition collection of men’s and women’s apparel and accessories for the discount department store chain. “Since an early age, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of design evolution,” Lim said in a press release. “One of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Target is because I felt that together we could create a collection that would inspire – one that is modern and chic, but still very accessible.”

The travel-friendly line-up will feature over 100 items priced from $19.99 to $299.99. The collection will launch on September 15, and will be available in most Target locations in the US and Canada as well as on target.com. Check out the sneak peek video here and watch this space for more on 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target in the coming months!

Coveting from the Backseat: Charlotte Olympia x Tom Binns Limited Edition Punk-Inspired Collection

London-based accessories designers Charlotte Olympia and Tom Binns have collaborated on a punk-inspired collection of shoes and bags, in honour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibition opening this May.

The limited edition line-up will feature punked up versions of Charlotte Olympia classics, including the Dolly Riot, Anarchy Kitty, and Punk Pandora. The offerings will be sold exclusively at Charlotte Olympia’s flagship stores in London and New York, as well as through charlotteolympia.com starting on May 2.

The last time Charlotte Olympia collaborated with another designer, it was Olympia Le-Tan and the result was S’s adorable Charlotte’s Web book clutch. I have the distinct feeling her CO collection is about to grow yet again.

Oscar de la Renta Teams Up With The Outnet on Exclusive Collection

On this dreary Monday morning (here in Toronto, anyway), it seems that the shopping gods have finally heard our prayers for affordable Oscar de la Renta. The announcement comes today via WWD that the designer has created an exclusive collection for online discount designer retailer theoutnet.com. Launching on February 26, the 24-piece offering will retail from $325 to $1,295, much more pocketbook-friendly price tags than ODLR’s main line. Olivia Palermo will serve as the face of the limited edition collection.

“Currently, the brand’s outlet model is driven by surplus merchandise, and this marks the first time product has been actively developed for this channel of trade,” said Oscar de la Renta CEO Alex Bolen. “We have things around here that are underutilised – [such as] 40 years of patterns, fabrics and artwork that a lot of people spent time on. We thought, perhaps we can put something together in a way that is new, that doesn’t require as much development time and in an exclusive way.”

The line-up of red carpet-ready dresses and chic separates will be made using the same patterns, fabrics and factory as the main line. What a score for The Outnet – and us ODLR fans! “We know that our customer loves Oscar,” said The Outnet’s managing director Stephanie Phair, “but we also feel that this is an amazing opportunity to tap into The Outnet’s audience and a new audience that Oscar as a brand might not have reached yet”.

Finally, the chance to add some ODLR to the wardrobe! February 26 can’t come soon enough. We’ve got our eyes on those floral-print cocktail dresses, at the very least. What’s on your wish list?

Kate Hudson Has Designed a Summer Capsule Collection for Ann Taylor

Kate Hudson, currently the face of Ann Taylor, has designed a capsule collection for the specialty womenswear retailer. Most recently seen at the Golden Globes in a stunning Alexander McQueen gown, the actress collaborated with creative director Lisa Axelson on a summer line-up inspired by her own red-carpet style.

“Working with Ann Taylor has been a great creative experience, and there is a really wonderful connection,” said Hudson. “Ann Taylor is great at creating iconic wardrobe staples and updating them season after season.”

The Kate Hudson for Ann Taylor capsule collection is due to hit stores in May. Given Kate’s impressive red carpet track record, we can’t wait to see it.

Prabal Gurung for Target Collection – Complete Lookbook!

The Prabal Gurung for Target lookbook has landed! The collaboration between the discount department store chain and the New York-based designer, who counts Duchess Kate and Jennifer Lawrence among his fans, was announced last October and the complete collection has now finally been revealed.

Inspired by love, the 80-piece line-up includes ladies’ apparel, shoes, handbags and jewelry priced from $19.99 for a t-shirt to $199.99 for a leather jacket. The collection will hit Target stores and target.com on February 10, 2012, just in time for Valentine’s Day. It will be available through to March 23, 2013.

I’m definitely going to be needing some of those floral print pieces in my life. The Mercedes-Benz Start Up winning duo of Danielle Martin and Pao Lim have designed 10 cocktail party-ready dresses to be carried exclusively at Reitmans, including petite and plus-sized styles.

The collection is priced very reasonably from $85 to $120, and MARTIN LIM fans will be delighted to find that the designs have a similar aesthetic to the Fall 2012 collection for their main line. I’m loving the Sandy dress with its blouson top and faux leather insert skirt.
