Tilda Swinton Stars In Chanel Pre-Fall 2013 Paris-Edimbourg Collection Ad Campaign

When we first saw the images of Karl Lagerfeld‘s Metiers d’Art Paris-Edinburgh collection for Chanel earlier this year, we were utterly blown away. Now he’s gone ahead and chosen the absolute perfect person to star in the ad campaign, and we’ve fallen in love all over again.

Actress and bonafide style icon (and girl crush!) Tilda Swinton is fronting the collection, and doing an incredible job of it. She looks fierce beyond words in the campaign images and we’re dying for every single piece featured. Tartan everything, please!

Coveting from the Backseat: Chanel No. 5 Perfume Bottle Clutch

It’s been over 90 years since the first bottles of Chanel No. 5 were released, and now Karl Lagerfeld has created the perfect ode to the iconic perfume: the Chanel No. 5 perfume bottle clutch. Seen recently on the Cruise 2014 runway, it was shown in two different colourways, and even comes with the design house’s signature leather chain strap.

It’s both uber chic and wonderfully whimsical. No word yet on pricing, but we’ll be daydreaming about this one until it hits stores later this year.

Admiring from the Backseat: Diane Kruger

This impossibly long winter may be dragging the best of us down, sartorially speaking, but style pros like Diane Kruger are still going strong. The actress stepped out in an effortlessly glam ensemble for dinner in New York with her boyfriend Joshua Jackson this week.

She chose a chic white collared shirt and black satin pants pairing for the occasion, topping it off with a delightfully ostentatious fur coat. The best part of her outfit though was the bright red Chanel lego clutch, which added a pop of colour and whimsical touch. I’d happily take one of those in every colour, please.

Coveting from the Backseat: Chanel Boy Bag

The temperatures may be bitterly cold this week, but my mind has already moved on to spring – and spring bags, in particular. I’ve been on the hunt for a colourful new accessory to help usher in the warm weather that I’m certain is just around the corner, and Chanel‘s Boy Bag is currently a top contender.

Karl Lagerfeld introduced the new style a year ago, which features Chanel’s signature quilted leather and double C kisslock, but has a decidedly edgier vibe than the ubiquitous classic quilted flap bag. For Spring 2013, it’s being produced in a range of punchy colours, including a to-die-for navy and black combination.

It’s taken a year for the Boy Bag to catch my eye, but now I can’t get it out of my head. How about you – are you a yay or nay on this Chanel bag?

Chanel Métiers d’Art Paris-Edinburgh Pre-Fall 2013 Accessories Collection

Karl Lagerfeld showed his Metiers d’Art Paris-Edinburgh collection for Chanel at the Linlithgow Palace in Scotland back in December, and now we’re finally getting a close-up look at the accompanying accessories for Pre-Fall 2013. The combination of Chanel’s iconic interlocking C’s and camellias with unmistakeably Scottish tartan and tweed make for a line-up of highly covetable handbags, shoes and jewelry.

The fierce silver chainmail flap bag and ornate gold oxblood resin cuff in particular are on my dream shopping list. The Kaiser never fails to design accessories that keep me wanting needing more Chanel in my life, and Pre-Fall 2013 is looking as to-die-for a collection as any.

A Peek in the Backseat: Chanel Camellia Necklace

Five years ago, I spotted Rihanna on the cover of Seventeen‘s December 2007 issue sporting a lovely Chanel camellia necklace around her neck. I knew immediately I had to have it. Chanel’s camellia is iconic, and this particular piece would add just the right amount of sparkle to any evening look.

The search for it, however, would take me much longer and farther than I anticipated. It wasn’t until the Mister and I took a trip down to Hawaii several months later that I would happen across it at the Chanel boutique at Ala Moana, one of my favourite places to shop in the world. There was only one left, sitting all by its lonesome in the back of a jewelry drawer, as if it had been waiting patiently for me to come rescue it all those months. It (along with the photos of me surfing on Waikiki beach!) was the perfect souvenir from my one-year wedding anniversary trip.

In fact, I loved the necklace so much, I managed to track down its matching bracelet in Houston, TX a little while later. Whomever warned against too much of a good thing obviously never came across a Chanel camellia.

Admiring from the Backseat: Golden Globe Awards 2013 Edition

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen

Golden Globes 2013 turned out to be quite the night! Honourary Backseat Styler D joined us for this year’s festivities and we spent the evening critiquing the red carpet fashions, accusing each other of cheating in the GG pool, and playing Amy Poehler and Tina Fey’s Golden Globes drinking game. Lots of controversy, to say the least. So much so, in fact, that we couldn’t even narrow the best dressed field down to 10.

While the red carpet as a whole left much to be desired, favourites like Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen, Anne Hathaway in Chanel and Julianne Moore in Tom Ford were shoo-ins. Ladies in red Jennifer Lawrence (in Christian Dior) and Naomi Watts (in Zac Posen) also made the cut, as did Kerry Washington in an embellished Miu Miu frock. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked drop-dead gorgeous in a bow-adorned Saint Laurent gown, while Julianna Margulies and Michelle Dockery both took risks with their Pucci and Alexandre Vauthier gowns that paid off.

The final spot in our top ten best dressed of the night was a toss-up between Rachel Weisz in a sheer, polka-dotted number by Louis Vuitton (S’s pick) and Katharine McPhee‘s revealing Theyskens’ Theory dress (T’s pick). Rather than settle the issue via a breakdance fight, we decided to expand our list to 11 and call it a night.

Who were your best dressed of the 2013 Golden Globes?

Coveting from the Backseat: Chanel Resort 2013 Camellia Sneakers

Because I like to torture myself, I spent yesterday daydreaming about a $4,000 Burberry peplum trench coat. Today, my fickle heart has already found a new piece of sartorial genius to covet: Chanel camellia sneakers!

These black and white leather kicks from Chanel’s Resort 2013 collection are embellished with the brand’s double-C logo and signature camellias, which I adore. No word yet on the price tag, but I bet these shoes would match perfectly with the fun Chanel croquet set and bicycle I sadly also can’t afford.
