Holiday Gift Guide 2012: 18 Covet-Worthy Gift Ideas for the Fashion Set

As I ran around a largely deserted mall on December 24th last year, I vowed to myself – for at least the fifth year in a row – that I would never leave the task of gift buying to the very last minute ever again. Next year, I promised myself, I’ll be one of those extremely prepared folks who get to brag about having finished their holiday shopping weeks – months even – in advance.

Well, it seems the moment of truth has come, and while I have exactly zero presents purchased to date, I do have a stellar gift guide prepared with a whopping 18 incredible items for only the most fashionable females on your list. Now, all you and I have to do is print out this blog post, get to the nearest computer or mall, and get shopping like the proactive, stylish elves we are. Good luck!

Admiring from the Backseat: CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards 2012 Edition

Coco Rocha

The American fashion industry gathered in New York last night for the 9th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund gala dinner. Greg Chait, founder of cashmere label The Elder Statesman, won the coveted cash prize and mentorship program, while jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer Maguire and footwear designer Tabitha Simmons were named the runners-up.

The other story, of course, was what gala attendees wore, and we’ve gone ahead and picked our five best dressed of the evening. Red carpet favourite Emma Stone was an easy pick; the actress was decked out in a peplum look straight off the Burberry Prorsum Spring 2013 runway. Dakota Fanning, in pink Jason Wu Spring 2013, also chose a peplum for the occasion. Rounding out the top five were Coco Rocha in a printed Sono number, Karlie Kloss in a sheer, ladylike ensemble, and Alexa Chung in an unexpected pairing of baby blue and red.

Neiman Marcus x Target x CFDA Holiday 2012 Collection Revealed

Neiman Marcus, Target and the CFDA announced a rather unexpected but definitely very intriguing holiday collaboration this past July, and now the 50-plus piece collection of men’s, women’s, home and children’s gift items has been revealed.

The offerings were designed by 24 CFDA designers, including: Alice + Olivia, Altuzarra, Band of Outsiders, Brian Atwood, Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Eddie Borgo, Jason Wu, Judith Leiber, Lela Rose, Marchesa, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Philip Crangi, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, Robert Rodriguez, Rodarte, Skaist-Taylor, Thom Browne, Tory Burch and Tracy Reese.

The collection includes everything from Rodarte wrapping paper for $7.99 to Alice + Olivia bicycle for $499.99. I’m thinking a quick shopping jaunt south of the border might be required so I can get my hands on a Prabal Gurung bow cape ($79.99) for me, an Eddie Borgo letter opener ($34.99) for the Mister, and a Jason Wu polka dot dress ($59.99) for the daughter I’ve yet to have.

Mark your calendars – the collection will be available in both Neiman Marcus and Target stores and e-commerce sites (neimanmarcus.com ships to Canada!) starting December 1, and is sure to sell out in a flash. Check out the gallery below for the complete collection. What’s on your wish list?

Neiman Marcus, Target and 24 CFDA Designers Team Up For Holiday 2012 Collection

By now we’re rather accustomed to hearing about unexpected collaborations (Valentino for GAP, anyone?), but Neiman Marcus x Target definitely takes the cake. The unlikely duo of retailers announced today the creation of a 50-plus piece collection of limited-edition men’s, women’s, home and children’s gift items by a roster of 24 CFDA members.

The list of designers who have created pieces for the collection is impressive: Alice + Olivia, Altuzarra, Band of Outsiders, Brian Atwood, Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Eddie Borgo, Jason Wu, Judith Leiber, Lela Rose, Marchesa, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Philip Crangi, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, Robert Rodriguez, Rodarte, Skaist-Taylor, Thom Browne, Tory Burch and Tracy Reese.

Due to hit both retailers’ stores and online shops on December 1, the collection is priced from $7.99 to $499.99, with the majority of items under $60. Not having yet seen a single item, this is already sounding like the collaboration of the year. Prabal? Proenza? Atwood, even? I can’t wait to see what some of my favourite designers have cooked up for Neiman Marcus and Target. Stay tuned!

Joseph Altuzarra for J.Crew – Complete Collection!

News of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund collaborations with J.Crew is now coming fast and furious! Yesterday we got a sneak peek of the capsules designed by Joseph Altuzarra, Pamela Love and Creatures of the Wind, and today images of the complete 7-piece collection by Altuzarra have been released.

The designs, inspired by “Brigitte Bardot in Saint-Tropez and French preppy style,” range in price from $85 for a cotton top to $345 for the espadrilles. The collection isn’t what I expected from Altuzarra, but I’m never one to turn down anything nautical, sartorially speaking. I’m all over the gingham and Breton stripes. And those espadrilles! Too cute for words.

Altuzarra for J.Crew is available for pre-sale starting tomorrow, April 19, and lands in stores on April 23. Happy shopping!

Joseph Altuzarra, Pamela Love and Creatures of the Wind for J. Crew – Sneak Peek!

When winner Prabal Gurung confirmed a few weeks ago that he’d collaborated with J.Crew on the second round of CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund collections, we started to get excited. Today, Vogue.com brings us our very first look at the capsule, as well as those of runners-up Pamela Love and Creatures of the Wind, and now we’re getting really excited.

Altuzarra’s Parisian-inspired nautical sweaters, pencil skirts, and espadrilles hit stores on April 23, while we’ll have to wait until May 14 and June 11 for Pamela Love’s boyfriend jeans, belt, and shrunken jacket (clothing from the jewelry designer!) and Creatures of the Wind’s twinset, floral summer dress, and patchwork oxfords. Anxious about missing out? You can pre-order by phone starting this Thursday, April 19.

The images are rather small, but are you liking what you’re seeing so far?

Joseph Altuzarra for J.Crew – Confirmed!

Joseph Altuzarra and J.Crew’s Creative Director Jenna Lyons

Fashionista reports that rumours of a collaboration between J.Crew and CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Joseph Altuzarra have been confirmed by the designer himself. “So we worked on a collaboration,” he revealed, “which I think will be coming out in a few weeks.” A few weeks! That sounds delightfully soon.

“It was a really interesting project”, he went on to say, “because it was like a conflation of their language — or of their world — [and] of our world and putting it together. And I think that was really interesting for me to work on.”

Colour me intrigued. Considering how miserably I failed in my bid to nab some Prabal Gurung for J.Crew this time last year, I’m going to be extra diligent about shopping this collaboration, if it turns out to be as covetable as I’m imagining it to be. Who else is excited?
