Admiring from the Backseat: Diane Kruger in Jason Wu

Diane Kruger wore a beautifully embroidered cape from Jason Wu‘s Fall 2012 collection to the opening of the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort in Miami Beach, Florida earlier this week. Actually, she donned the cape and nothing else but a pair of Gucci ‘Kelis’ sandals on her feet. Meaning, no pants!

So what’s the verdict, ladies and gents – is this ensemble daring or ridiculous? I’m on the fence. But, either way, I sure admire Diane’s gutsy sense of style.

Coveting from the Backseat: Zara Checked Print Cape

During the end-of-season sales last fall/winter, I managed to amass quite a few capes in preparation for the next year (see here, here, and here). I thought my little cape collection was quite complete until just a few moments ago, when I laid my eyes on this checked print cape from Zara’s September 2010 lookbook.
Suddenly, my solid-coloured capes seem so plain and uninspired, and I can think of nothing but getting my hands on that fabulous checked cape. Dare I bring home a fourth cape? Mr. Backseat Styler might just throw me out of the house if I do…but at least I’d look très chic on my way out the door!

Fashion Gone Rogue

Capes! Is there a more simultaneously fun and chic piece of outerwear out there? I can’t wait to wear the capes I bought at the end-of-season sales this past winter. If only fall clothing and summer weather were compatible…*sigh*

Double Take

I got a text from the younger Backseat Styler this morning to check out Style Sightings, but she didn’t say why. As I scrolled down the street style photos trying to identify what it was that T wanted me to see, I suddenly did a double take at the photos of Garance Doré. Was Garance wearing the very same Zara wool military-inspired cape T and I each bought on ridiculous sale (70% off) for $40 a few weeks ago? We’re used to seeing Miss Garance in her fabulous camel MaxMara coat, so surely it couldn’t be? But close examination of the photos reveals that it was indeed one and the same!

I was quite confident in my cape purchase (especially given the steal that it was), but it gives me just the slightest bit of pleasure knowing that Garance deems our little cape worthy of rubbing shoulders with Anna Dello Russo and the rest of the Vogue Nippon team. I’m curious though – did Garance scour through the Zara sale racks like we did to find this gem?

Club Monaco Sale Find: Mika Cape

I can never resist a good sale, especially at Club Monaco. An additional 25% off on sale items this weekend is music to a bargain hunter like me’s ears. Not only did I manage to get a price adjustment on that military-inspired vest I picked up earlier this week, but I also snagged this wool cape jacket. The Mika Cape was originally $279, on sale for $189 with an additional 25% off to bring the pre-tax total to $141.75 – a fantastic price for an in-season item that’s right on trend but still enough of a classic to be a fall staple for many years to come. These are sure to go quick, so grab one for yourself while they’re still available! There’s also a great assortment of sweaters, coats, dresses and bottoms included in the sale – definitely worth a visit.

Revolve Sale Find – Loeffler Randall Boyfriend Cape

Picked this up a few weeks ago during more random, mindless trolling of the cyber sale bins at Revolve. It arrived last week a size too big, but at over 70% off, I will make it work.
