I recently happened across a declaration that black and white was going to be a huge trend for spring, and it appears that our favourite Canadian style bloggers all received that memo and decided to get on that trend, stat.
What’s black, white and striped all over? Samantha, obviously. The Beckerman sister’s cotton candy-hued hair added a pop of colour to her jailhouse chic getup this week. Jen‘s black-and-white ensemble combined many of our favourite things: prints, leather and fur, the ingredients to the perfect cold weather outfit.
Stephanie‘s take on the trend was more white with a dash of black; her no-fail white blazer + white pants + striped top combo is a promising sign that spring is just around the corner. I hope.

The other day S and I visited The Coveteur to check out their feature on the Beckerman sisters and, needless to say, we absolutely loved it! Caillianne and Samantha (not to mention their dogs) never fail to impress us with their unexpected and refreshing ensembles and, likewise, their closets did not disappoint.
You’ll have to see it for yourself (if you haven’t already), but it got us thinking about other Canadian style bloggers whose closets we’re dying to take a peek at! We’re having a hard time choosing from all the incredibly stylish ladies and gentlemen we feature in our Street Style Lookbook - Gracie and Vanessa definitely! - but we’re curious to know: which style blogger’s closet would you most like to see?

While most of us bundled up in our winter coats over the holidays, Nelia wore the most charming outfit during her vacation in Punta Cana. She couldn’t have looked any more perfect for a tropical getaway in her white daisy lace dress, pink earrings, and yellow bracelets.
Though it’s not nearly warm enough for naked limbs at home in Canada, Ania and Dani surprised us with their midriff-baring looks this week. I’m the kind of person who will wear three shirts under a parka in zero degree weather and stare incredulously at anyone wearing anything less, including joggers in spandex, barelegged ladies in skirts and ballerina flats, and boys walking around on campus in gym shorts (WHY???).
I would wear snow pants regularly if that were acceptable among adults. I admire Ania and Dani for being brave enough to show some skin in minus-zero weather, and looking chic and totally badass (and not insane) while doing it.

It’s already November but I’m still searching for that perfect fall jacket. I have had my mind set on a quilted bomber jacket – Vanessa’s is perfect! – but this week’s street style has me thinking that maybe just one fall jacket isn’t enough….
M’c kenneth took advantage of the chilly weather to layer an elegant dark green coat over a wool blazer. I myself layer my jackets as fall nears winter – usually a leather jacket underneath a fall jacket – and admire how M’c kenneth’s look has presence but isn’t bulky. Another fan of layering is Justyna, who wore a wool jacket underneath an on-trend fur collar jacket. Her lovely vintage cherry-printed dress put a smile on my face.
On those rare warmer days, a blazer can provide just the right amount of warmth. Nelia donned a sophisticated tuxedo jacket over a beautiful brocade peplum suit, while Krystin looked super cute in her polka dot blazer, striped blouse, and bowtie.

How does one do a statement piece justice: by letting it be the centre of attention, or by mixing it with other equally singular pieces? This week, Canadian bloggers showed us that either approach produces fabulous results!
Anik carried an on-trend animal print briefcase, Gracie broke in her gorgeous new velvet and mother of pearl sculptural wedges by Tom Ford, and Lisa sported a bright tropical-print jacket from the Maarten Van Der Horst for Topshop collaboration at London Fashion Week. Each of these pieces was the star of their respective ensemble.
Meanwhile, Samantha was decked out in statement pieces that more than made up for the apparent retirement of her amazing blue hair. The vintage leather vest with the rock ‘n’ roll hand signs, the plaid Comme des Garçons pants, and the Isabel Marant Berry boots are all stand-out pieces that are even more brilliant together.

Denim, denim and more denim took over the Canadian street style blogwaves this week. While jeans are year-round fare, the ensembles featured have a distinct transitional feel to them. Fall is just around the corner, but perhaps it’s not all bad news.
Dani donned a full-length denim jumpsuit that was all kinds of amazing, amplified by a gorgeous statement necklace and stunning hairdo. Zoe and Julia kept things simpler, but no less chic. Zoe’s blue denim shirt and pink jeans combo and Julia’s colourblock sweater and black denim pairing are getting us excited for fall dressing.
It seems that the solution to end-of-summer blues just might be a new pair of jeans or two. See you at the nearest Gap?

I’m excited to announce that Jentine is the first person from Hamilton – where I live – to be included in The Canadian Street Style Lookbook! I live near the McMaster University campus, where the meaning of casual chic extends to wearing pajama pants in the middle of the afternoon, but Jentine is an example of the stylish Hamiltonians who focus more on the “chic” in casual chic. Her autumn-hued Marc Cain bustier crop top and thrifted Ralph Lauren cobalt skirt are a perfect pairing!
If the boys on campus dressed more like Ryan and the girls like Kelsey, I think I would be more interested in going to school. I’m completely envious of Ryan’s Ben Sherman gingham shirt and shoes, and love the vintage feel of Kelsey’s look. Her scalloped suede bottoms (Is it a skirt? A pair of shorts? Who knows!) are beautiful.
I imagine that my style will be similar to Alyssa’s look once I’ve become a successful professional in New York City, working in a contemporary art gallery and visiting my future friend Grace Coddington at the Vogue offices during my lunch breaks.

Robyn Chalmers of Fashionista 514, Montreal
This week, Canada’s best dressed took a break from the usual colour bonanza in favour of black and white with divine textures, cuts, and accessories.
Kristin’s indisputably charming look illustrates the often ignored but serious power of buttons. I’m now convinced that gold buttons are the best kind of buttons, as they transform her blouse from ordinary to extraordinary. Meanwhile, the pearl buttons of her jacket perfectly complement its scalloped trim – primarily in the sense that both are elegant details, but also in that both allude to the ocean.
Rivaling the magnificence of Kristin’s jacket is Robyn’s white jacquard blazer (close-up here). She pairs it with an otherwise all black ensemble of lace, leather and metallic trimmings – unlikely ingredients to a summer-perfect getup. And can we take a moment to ooh and aah over her Preen for ALDO RISE sculptural shoes (close-up here)? They’re downright amazing.
If you’ve ever attempted to wear knitted shorts, then you know they’re the hardest thing to pull off. Bianca does it admirably by incorporating them into an outfit that’s more dark and futuristic, and less cute and casual. Jay has a similar look going on and pulls off his knit sweater with plunging neckline with equal success. Plunging necklines are, of course, a summer style essential. You can take that one to the bank.

Marta Tryshak of With Love Gabrielle, Toronto
This week’s edition of The Canadian Street Style Lookbook finds ladies dressed impeccably and suitably for a spectrum of intriguing scenarios.
It seems that Marta fittingly put together her outfit as if it were a deconstructed painting for her visit to the AGO exhibition Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris. Her white top and pants are a blank canvas that she’s transformed into a masterpiece with fun prints and punches of bold colour. Am I reading too much into Marta’s ensemble? Or is she the Picasso of Canadian street style?
Standing in front of what appears to be prison doors, Vanessa imparts a don’t-mess-with-me attitude in a white varsity jacket, sports bra, and black leather shorts with mesh trim. This is by far the best interpretation of the black-and-white bee-striped prison uniform I’ve seen to date.
The crystal ball in the background of Mina’s photo makes it painfully obvious that Professor Trelawny, professor of Divination at Hogwarts, was the source of inspiration for Mina’s look. Mina certainly looks magical with her perfectly-tied headband (executed with a spell, I assume), magnificent Prada sunglasses, and orange and gold statement earrings.

This week’s most exciting moments in Canadian street style involve champagne, cake, and cowboys and Indians. Intrigued? Read on!
Expertly juggling two phones and a glass of champagne in hand, Jay looked more like a star than most Hollywood celebrities at the Cannes Film Festival. His tuxedo jacket is nothing short of incredible, and its ivory colour do the shawl lapel and cuff buttons far more justice than black would. This million-dollar look is certainly an impressive change from when I last saw Jay in Rihanna-esque denim cut-off shorts, singing “CAKE CAKE CAKE…!” at an amazing RiRi-themed bachelorette party for Nelia.
Speaking of cake (I definitely didn’t bring up that Rihanna song just to make a smooth transition), Elizabeth’s bag conveys some great words of wisdom from Kate Spade: “Eat cake for breakfast.” This reminds me of that one time I ate two cupcakes for breakfast, immediately passed out from an overdose of sugar, and dreamt that Val Kilmer was my friend.
Sadly, there is no way to use “Speaking of Val Kilmer…” as a logical transition. Caillianne, whose outfit was inspired by cowboys and Indians, looks like she’s ready to take down anyone who gets in her way. But actually she wore this to her father’s birthday dinner.
