It seems there was a significant omission in yesterday’s round-up of the best dressed attendees at the 9th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund gala the night before last – the queen bee herself, Anna Wintour. The editor-in-chief of Vogue stepped out in one of the most incredible trench coats I’ve ever seen (on my laptop screen), a peacock-feathered creation from Burberry Prorsum’s Spring 2013 collection.
This is no standard Burberry trench coat fare. The coat is covered in iridescent peacock plumage, each delicate feather placed by hand and carefully stitched into a stunning pattern of rosettes. It also features a satin collar, epaulets, and a tie belt. In short, it’s utterly divine. Never mind owning it – it will retail for a cool $35,000! – I’d give anything just to see it. Maybe even try it on for a few brief moments. What do you say, Mr. Bailey?

The classic Burberry trench coat has been on my wish list for years now, but has somehow managed to elude me thus far. It may be just as well though, because the classic, no-frills model, it seems, isn’t what I’m coveting right now.
On this miserably wet day in Toronto, while all couped up indoors, I find myself daydreaming about frolicking in the rain in this gorgeous trench from the Burberry Prorsum Fall 2012 collection. It is, quite possibly, the trench coat of my dreams: there’s tweed, there’s a peplum, and there’s even a skinny bow belt. Simply perfection.
Sadly, this baby will have to stay in my daydreams. It retails for US$3,595 over at Luisa Via Roma.

There’s something about a white coat that gets me every time. This particular one that Christine Centenera, Fashion Editor of Harper’s Bazaar Australia, wore during London Fashion Week Spring 2012 is just plain gorgeous. The fact that it’s a look from Burberry Prorsum‘s Fall 2011 collection comes as no surprise; Christopher Bailey‘s outerwear designs never fail to impress me.

But a coat’s still just a coat without a proper styling job. Centenera’s pairing of this soft, ladylike piece with fierce platform sandals by Alexander McQueen on her first outing, and with a printed Givenchy dress and blue McQueen boots on a second outing, are utter perfection.

I too have a white Burberry wool coat that sadly doesn’t get nearly as much play as it should. I’m thinking I’ll have to take it out for a spin this weekend, though, unlike Centenera, I’ll be wearing pants. The temperatures here in Toronto have been below freezing and I have an embarrassingly low threshold for pain.

I was innocently flipping through Vogue‘s September issue tonight when my jaw literally dropped at the sight of this image from Burberry‘s Fall 2011 ad campaign. That coat! That bag! Simply to die for. I whipped out my laptop to find out how much this outfit would cost me from head to toe…well, maybe minus the hat.
My window shopping excursion on Burberry.com was short and depressing. The total cost of my dream Fall ensemble came to a whopping $33,690! And that didn’t even include pants. Or taxes. With the large luggage suede and alligator bowling bag going for the cost of a car or two at $30,995, and the drop waist duffle trench jacket a relative bargain at $2,695, this is one outfit that’s a tad too rich for my blood.
But a girl can dream, right?
