Gucci Celebrates 90th Anniversary With Exclusive 1921 Collection

In celebration of Gucci‘s 90th anniversary this year, the design house is launching the 1921 Collection, an exclusive commemorative range of men’s and women’s ready to wear and accessories.

“Each item in the collection tells a story, representing a chapter within the House’s rich narrative history,” explained Creative Director Frida Giannini. The 1921 collection includes special editions of the New Bamboo, the New Jackie, and the Horsebit Chain handbags, produced in calfskin and crocodile, in a range of colours. The collection will carry the new trademark “G. GUCCI Firenze 1921″, and will hit select Gucci boutiques worldwide and gucci.com starting July.

The collection brings back fond memories of my first forays into designer handbags. I once owned and now miss dearly the Horsebit Chain clutch, from the Tom Ford era, in a gorgeous black studded python. Perhaps it’s time to bring some classic Gucci back into my closet.

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Short and Sweet

Erin Fetherston blouse / Club Monaco winter shorts / Aritzia belt / Hue tights / Chanel bag / Burberry boots / Make Up For Ever makeup

Ahh, the winter shorts – a concept that was entirely foreign, almost laughable to me just last year, but that I’ve completely embraced over the last few months. No longer fearing the potential loss of limbs by frostbite, winter shorts are now regulars in my cold weather wardrobe rotation. I am, of course, still practical about it; winter shorts are for driving days, not cross-city treks in blizzards.

Are you rocking the winter shorts this winter too, or is it too cold for comfort?

Stylin’ from the Backseat: To The Bone

ASOS pattern wrap blanket cardigan / Snood from Pacific Mall in Toronto / TNA belt / Forever 21 tank top / J Brand jeans / Chanel bag / Burberry boots/ Make Up For Ever makeup

It was so bitterly cold here in Toronto last week that I basically ate, slept and played in my heavy duty Canada Goose parka for 7 days straight. Parka and snow boots do not a blog-worthy outfit make, however, so I braved the elements for no more than 5 minutes so that Mr. Backseat Styler could snap me in my cozy winter garb…and even then the ensemble is only barely worthy of a post. You’ll have to bear with me, because frostbite-inducing weather makes it rather difficult to pull together a stylish outfit.

I would’ve preferred to hibernate in my comforter all day long, but dim sum is worth getting out of bed for, so I did the next best thing and took my new ASOS blanket cardigan out for a spin. Layering on the snood I so happily found at a boutique in Pacific Mall (self-proclaimed largest indoor Asian mall in North America, LOL) that sells Korean imports, I could almost pass as being unaffected by the cold in these photos. Almost. How swimsuit models shoot outdoors in the winter is beyond me; they must be superhuman!

Are you struggling to stay chic in this weather too, or am I the only weak one?

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Shakin’ It

Marc by Marc Jacobs hoodie / Fidelity Denim Shaker cargo pants / Chloé wedge boots / Make Up For Ever makeup

Last week, my J Brand Houlihans were the centre of attention in our weekly installment of Stylin’ from the Backseat. This week, a very distant cousin of my J Brands take the stage. I wore these Fidelity Denim Shaker cargo jeans the day after my first outing with my J Brand cargo skinnies, so me and Mr. Backseat Styler couldn’t have made a more direct comparison between the two unless I had had one leg and butt cheek in one pant and the other leg and butt cheek in the other. Which would be rather odd, to say the least.

Me and Nicki Minaj are (almost like) Twins

So it turns out me and Nicki Minaj have something in common.

Pink hair? Nah. Serious badonkadonk? Not so much (on me). Love for Brian Atwood? That’d be it. Miss Minaj was spotted last October rocking the Brian Atwood Niki platform army ankle boots during a concert, and I followed suit (months later) with the boots but sans the performance. In fact, I just picked these babies up yesterday at the ridiculously amazing sale at The Room at the Bay - they’re offering an additional 40% off on F/W merchandise already reduced up to 70% off!

Alexander McQueen Spring 2011 Shoe Collection

My shoe addiction is starting to become a bit more targeted. Recently, though I’ve dabbled in Kirkwood, Wang and Chloé, the design house that’s really stolen my heart is Alexander McQueen (see here and here for my treasured McQueen button-trim ankle boots and winged booties). With Lee McQueen’s untimely death last year and Sarah Burton now at the reins of the design house, the shoe designs for Spring 2011 don’t seem to have slowed down one bit. In fact, they’re as stunning and ornate as ever. The question is, with so many options clamouring for a spot in my shoe closet, which one to choose? Consider this post my shortlist. Care to cast a vote?

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Pilfered Cargo

McQ cardigan / Forever 21 tank top / 3.1 Phillip Lim leather jacket / J Brand cargos / Chloé wedge booties / Make Up For Ever make-up

I’m chained to a desk Monday to Friday, so I’m used to living in dress pants, with some respite on the weekends via my jeans. Over the last 6 months or so, since I ramped up the personal style posts, I’ve become a bit more creative. Still no booty shorts for me, but I’ve happily added patterned leggings, frilly skirts and comfy but chic jumpers to the wardrobe. One of my best discoveries, though, has been these J Brand Houlihan skinny cargos. They’re a great alternative to jeans and leggings, can be dressed up or down, and fit like a glove. Oh, and I got them on fantastic sale from Revolve!

This whole ensemble, in fact, is like a greatest hits album of my shopping triumphs over the last few years. From the leather jacket via Barneys to the studded cardigan via the White Space at the Bay to the wedge boots via Saks, all were purchased on significant sale after much patience on my part. Knowing I got a fantastic deal always makes me enjoy wearing a piece that much more. So there you have it – I’m a self-confessed sale-aholic who shows no signs of imminent recovery! Any other addicts out there?

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Infraction

Alice + Olivia plaid tunic / Durumi skull leggings / Alexander McQueen ankle booties / Make Up For Ever make-up

Your eyes do not deceive you – I am, in fact, wearing colour! Two red outfit posts in a row, to be exact, and all because I very much enjoy dressing so literally. ‘Tis the season, after all. What’s more merry than a candy cane red tunic topped with a bow?

If my mischievous little smile makes me look like I’m up to no good, it’s because I am! I’ve paired my cute, festive plaid tunic with skull leggings and steel-toe booties…not exactly an outfit for a visit to Santa’s village. It’s the perfect sartorial representation of me though – cute as a button one minute, and ready to kick ass and take names the very next.

The Room at the Bay Designer Sale – Now up to 70% Off

If you follow us on Twitter, you’re already well aware that The Room at the Bay‘s second cut sale began yesterday, offering up to 70% off on fall/winter designer clothing, shoes and accessories that’ll make your heart stop (in the best possible way). You’re also well aware that on such an important shopping day, I managed to leave my wallet at home. This would have been a rather disappointing post if the story ended there…but luckily it doesn’t! Despite the very poor preparation on my part, my visit was still a resounding success and I made out like a bandit. The drug of choice for the day was shoes, shoes, shoes my friends, and my partner-in-crime J and the loveliest sales associate in the world S only fueled my addiction. Evidence of my shopping debauchery is now sitting in my footwear closet.

The first piece of incriminating evidence is these Nicholas Kirkwood python platform slingbacks. I’m not usually a fan of big chunky platforms, but these are all kinds of amazing. I don’t generally use the word ‘hot’ thanks to a certain member of the Hilton family, but I can’t help it. These are HOT.

Stylin’ from the Backseat: Checked In/Checked Out

Smythe hunting jacket / Smythe equestrian vest / Ted Baker blouse / Forever 21 tank top / J Brand jeans / Burberry riding boots / Luxe Deluxe necklace via Etsy / Make Up For Ever make-up

The last two months have been so hectic that I have a backlog of outfit posts! Now that we’re smack dab in the middle of a bitterly cold winter, looking at these photos again makes me long for those crisp Fall days when the leaves had just fallen and I didn’t have any need for parkas or mittens or earmuffs yet. Autumn is always my favourite time of year for dressing – thanks to my obsession with Fall jackets and ankle booties, my entire wardrobe centres around that one season!

I’ve mentioned my Smythe addiction in a number of posts now, and this particular ensemble is evidence of it. I managed to layer two Fall 2009 pieces together, the checked hunting jacket and equestrian vest. Paired with the Burberry riding boots I snagged from the outlet at the end of the summer, the whole outfit was a schizophrenic mishmash of equestrian, hunting and western themes. And I loved it.

More photos after the jump…
