So Halloween has come and gone for another year, and while there’s still a bit of candy remaining, we bet you’re already looking for a new excuse to don your most favourite costume items. We’re going to recommend you pack the Darth Vader mask away for the year, but in the meantime there are plenty of Halloween-friendly items that can definitely stay in your wardrobe rotation all year round.
From Kate Spade‘s adorable cat burglar knit hat to Olympia Le-Tan‘s Dracula book clutch, check out the gallery below for spooktacular knits, shoes, and accessories to tide you over until next Halloween.
Anya of I’m The It Girl is only a few weeks into her personal style blogging career, and she’s already killing it. Last week, we featured her super chic bustier + culottes ensemble in The Canadian Street Style Lookbook, and then immediately ran off to find our own. The perfect culottes are a challenge we promise to take on another day, but we took to the search for stylish and not too sexy bustiers right away.
The conclusion? They definitely exist! Exhibit #1: an artful Alexander McQueen honeycomb silk jacquard top for a whopping $2,535 (that’s already 70% off!). Exhibit #2: a pocketbook-friendly H&M white jersey bustier with cutouts for a night out on the town. Exhibit #3: a girly yet fierce Love Leather cropped top with a sweetheart neckline, USD$260 at Shopbop. And the list goes on, one fab bustier after another to sport under a blazer or pair with a cute skirt or skinny jeans.
Check out the gallery below for 16 of our favourites available in stores right now, and get ready to show some skin. But not too much, right Anya?
In last week’s edition of The Canadian Street Style Lookbook, we oohed and aahed over Lily‘s whimsical heart-shaped sunglasses, but that wasn’t the only part of her ensemble that caught our eye. Her classic YSL Tribute sandals in a bright, eye-catching yellow had us – and we’re guessing you! – a little green with envy too. But why waste time coveting someone else’s fabulous footwear when you can just snag your own?
Inspired by Lily’s standout shoes, we’ve gone ahead and rounded up 15 pairs of sunny yellow pumps, sandals, wedges and ballet flats you can add to your summer rotation right now. With 15 irresistible options like ALDO‘s ‘Earlene’ ankle cuff, peep-toe stilettos (CAD$100) and Jimmy Choo‘s to-die-for neon degrade pumps (USD$750 at Saks), we wish you the best of luck in limiting yourself to just one pair.
Summer wedding season is officially in full swing, and with it the hunt for the perfect dress or two to wear to all those nuptials. It can be a frustrating search to be sure, looking for a frock that’s befitting a guest and doesn’t encroach on the bride’s sartorial glory, but still shows your personal style.
While scouring the internet for such a dress, we came across this Alexander McQueen number, which is right up our alley. The jacquard intarsia knit is gorgeous, the colour palette is right on trend, and the asymmetric flounce hem adds a lovely feminine touch. The only catch? Its price tag of $2,240.

Rose Byrne in Lanvin
Because we’re not yet ready to let go of awards season and we have a feeling you aren’t either, we’ve going to dwell on Oscars Sunday just a little longer. We’ve gone ahead and rounded up our favourite after-party looks from the annual post-Oscars Vanity Fair soirée, and they’re just as glamourous as those on our best dressed list from the main event itself.
Red carpet regulars like Zoe Saldana and Kate Bosworth knocked it out of the sartorial ballpark once again in a ruffle and lace Givenchy number and embroidered Giambattista Valli frock respectively, while Amy Adams and Elizabeth Banks stunned in fringed Oscar de la Renta and printed Alexander McQueen.
Our hands-down favourite though was Rose Byrne, who served up possibly her best red carpet appearance ever, surprising us in a gorgeous white Lanvin getup. An incredible improvement over her horrendous SAG Awards outing!

Naomi Watts in Armani Privé
After an epic 3.5 hour Academy Awards ceremony tonight and red carpet coverage that was almost as long, the 2013 awards season has sadly come to an end. With stunning silver screen stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Naomi Watts and Jessica Chastain stepping out in incredible gowns by the likes of Armani Privé, Dior Haute Couture and Oscar de la Renta, however, this year’s awards season definitely went out with a sartorial bang.
Our favourite leading ladies certainly saved their best frocks for last, with most topping their looks at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. From Kerry Washington in pink Miu Miu to Stacy Keibler in metallic Naeem Khan, these are our top 10 best dressed from the 2013 Oscars. Who made your list?

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

My Margiela for H&M candy wrapper clutch has been sitting untouched in my closet since it came home with me last November, waiting patiently for a chance to come out and play. I finally took it out for its inaugural spin this past weekend and, obviously, it called for a black on black on black outfit.
Salt and pepper bouclé tweed, silver metallics and black leather – a few of my old favourites, all wrapped up neatly in one ensemble. After spending the last year in brighter colours than ever before, this decidedly darker getup felt like a reunion with old friends.

Golden Globes 2013 turned out to be quite the night! Honourary Backseat Styler D joined us for this year’s festivities and we spent the evening critiquing the red carpet fashions, accusing each other of cheating in the GG pool, and playing Amy Poehler and Tina Fey’s Golden Globes drinking game. Lots of controversy, to say the least. So much so, in fact, that we couldn’t even narrow the best dressed field down to 10.
While the red carpet as a whole left much to be desired, favourites like Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen, Anne Hathaway in Chanel and Julianne Moore in Tom Ford were shoo-ins. Ladies in red Jennifer Lawrence (in Christian Dior) and Naomi Watts (in Zac Posen) also made the cut, as did Kerry Washington in an embellished Miu Miu frock. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked drop-dead gorgeous in a bow-adorned Saint Laurent gown, while Julianna Margulies and Michelle Dockery both took risks with their Pucci and Alexandre Vauthier gowns that paid off.
The final spot in our top ten best dressed of the night was a toss-up between Rachel Weisz in a sheer, polka-dotted number by Louis Vuitton (S’s pick) and Katharine McPhee‘s revealing Theyskens’ Theory dress (T’s pick). Rather than settle the issue via a breakdance fight, we decided to expand our list to 11 and call it a night.
Who were your best dressed of the 2013 Golden Globes?
Anne Hathaway in Chanel
Naomi Watts in Zac Posen
Julianne Moore in Tom Ford
Kerry Washington in Miu Miu

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive at 2011 Golden Globe Awards
It’s official, ladies and gents! Sunday marks the beginning of this year’s awards season in Hollywood, and we’re excitedly counting down the days until the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler-hosted Golden Globes. After that, it’s going to be a non-stop red carpet glam fest as our favourite stars attend the Globes, the SAGs and finally the Oscars.
This year’s batch of nominees include leading ladies who not only have serious acting chops, but impeccable style to match (or, at least, the most talented stylists on their payrolls). We’ve rounded up the 10 actresses we’re most excited to see on the awards show red carpets this season, along with our favourite look of theirs to date.
From stars of the silver screen like Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence to those who’ve graced our televisions this past year like Claire Danes and Julianne Moore, we can’t wait to cover their sartorial choices over the next couple of months. Valentino, Dior, Elie Saab…gorgeous gowns are coming to a glamourous red carpet near you. Stay tuned!

“You always make me overdress!”, T complained, midway through Fashion’s Night Out last week. That may be true, but when you’re choosing a getup for a FNO gig at Toronto Eaton Centre, the bar is set high.
For my FNO outfit needs I headed to TEC a few days before, and it wasn’t long before I found a gorgeous Clover Canyon neoprene frock at Mendocino; it was lust at first sight. Everything about the dress – the bold print, form-hugging fabric and new-to-me colour palette – was completely out of the box for me. But what better day to push my sartorial boundaries than on Fashion’s Night Out?
While I hit up TEC, T raided my wardrobe. She pulled my favourite Equipment blouse and oft-worn Club Monaco faux leather shorts and paired them with to-die-for Stuart Weitzman booties. I’ve never worn these three pieces this way, and I love how she borrowed them from my closet and made them completely her own, with fierce accessories and hairdo to match.
Were we perhaps overdressed for the occasion? Perpetually. And that’s the way I like it.
