My Margiela for H&M candy wrapper clutch has been sitting untouched in my closet since it came home with me last November, waiting patiently for a chance to come out and play. I finally took it out for its inaugural spin this past weekend and, obviously, it called for a black on black on black outfit.
Salt and pepper bouclé tweed, silver metallics and black leather – a few of my old favourites, all wrapped up neatly in one ensemble. After spending the last year in brighter colours than ever before, this decidedly darker getup felt like a reunion with old friends.

If someone had predicted a few weeks ago that a pair of high-waisted green shorts would suddenly become My Favourite (Sartorial) Thing In The World, I would have scoffed at the idea. And yet here I am, head over heels in love and completely obsessed with these Proenza shorts I nabbed on sale at The Room.
So much so, in fact, that I wish they came in every colour of the rainbow. They don’t, though, which I suppose is a blessing in disguise; I would’ve chickened out of the green if there had been other, less adventurous options. And then what would I have worn with my first-time-out-of-the-box-and-they-happen-to-match Balenciaga sandals (a Woodbury outlet find!)?

It’s been a year now since the acquisition of my beloved Charlotte Olympia fruit pumps, and they still make my heart go pitter-patter every time I see them. So much so that when I happily took them out for their first outing this year (this winter shoot for Flare.com notwithstanding), I didn’t notice at first that they didn’t quite fit.
It had slipped my mind that when I purchased them last summer, I’d had to buy them a half-size (or was it a full size?) too large; I’d waited patiently until they were finally marked down and by then that was all that was left on the sale rack. Having to throw a pair of insoles or two into the shoes or do that awful toe-clenching walk you do when your shoes are too big seemed a small price to pay for my favourite spring shoes, like, ever.
Do you ever do that – buy wrong-sized shoes because you’d rather have them fit terribly than not have them in your life closet at all? Or is that some next level shoeaholic insanity that maybe I shouldn’t have publicly confessed to?

This outfit is so matchy-matchy that it’s almost disturbing, except for the fact that it wasn’t by design. The blouse and shorts look to be the same colour (which they’re not), there are metal flower accents both on the necklace and shoes (by accident), and there’s pleating everywhere. It’s as if I carefully planned to match my top to my bottom and my jewelry to my shoes…but I didn’t, I swear.
In a rush to head out the door this past Saturday, I threw together a rather obvious outfit in the two minutes I had to get dressed. Pairing unexpected pieces together is part of the fun of fashion, but it often takes a great deal of planning to look perfectly mismatched, and there was no time for that. This ensemble is on the unimaginative side, yes, but if you’ll give me a pass just this once, I promise never to do it again. *wink

Last weekend was unusually warm and sunny for this time of year in Toronto, so Mr. Backseat Styler, the baby and I took the opportunity to play outdoors before the snow comes. We headed to High Park (which I’m ashamed to admit I’d never been to before – it’s almost like Toronto’s version of Central Park…almost) and spent an afternoon breathing the fresh air, admiring the changing colours of the leaves, and just enjoying one another’s company.
That weekend was probably the last shorts-wearing weather we’ll have this year, so I took full advantage and whipped out the Sandro shorts I hadn’t had much opportunity to wear this summer. I decided to try something new and pair them with my swiss dots tights from H&M. I loved the look! The tights added some cute factor to the outfit and even kept me warm when it got a bit cooler later in the day.
That was just last weekend, but Fall is already back in full force and it’s been a rainy week here in Toronto. It sure was sweet of Mother Nature to surprise us with a summery Thanksgiving weekend though…maybe she’ll surprise us again this weekend. I can dream, can’t I?

Mr. Backseat Styler and I were in Niagara-on-the-Lake last weekend for a friend’s wedding and managed to sneak in a spot of tea in The Drawing Room at the Prince of Wales Hotel. The tea and scones were delightful, the setting was beautiful and I was in great company. To top it all off, I had an excuse to pair my new lace skirt with one of my most loved pairs of Louboutins. What more could I ask for?
