The official Maison Martin Margiela for H&M lookbook has been released!
Rejoice, MMM fans, because the collection doesn’t disappoint. Far from it, in fact. The 104-piece line-up of women’s and men’s apparel, footwear and accessories is a reissue of iconic designs from the Margiela archives, but at pocketbook-friendly H&M price points. It can’t get much better than that, am I right?
Each piece will be accompanied by a tag indicating the collection to which the original runway design belonged, in case you’re a little rusty on your Margiela history. So far, I’ve got my eye on the fitted, high-neck blazer, the oversized turtleneck sweater, and perhaps even a pair of knee-high boots for good measure. What’s on your wish list?
Margiela for H&M will launch in around 230 H&M stores worldwide and online at hm.com on November 15, 2012 – one short month away! I’ll most definitely be joining the line outside our local H&M for this collaboration, and I suspect I’ll see you all there as well. In the meantime, check out the ad campaign, in case you missed it last week. And stay tuned for more details!

It’s official – Maison Martin Margiela for H&M is indeed happening! WWD broke the news yesterday that H&M was on the verge of announcing their next designer collaboration with the house of Margiela, and the fast fashion retailer has done just so today.
“Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades,” said Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M in a press release. “I am so excited by this collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment”.
The house of Margiela added, “We are very happy to present Maison Martin Margiela pieces with H&M, offering a new interpretation of our vision. The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.”
Promising a line-up of clothing for both men and women that exemplifies “conceptual and timeless style” and “the work of the group rather than one designer”, the collection is expected to feature whites and, along with them, the ideas of anonymity and ambiguity. Mark your calendars for November 15, 2012, when Margiela x H&M will hit around 230 stores worldwide and online at hm.com. In the meantime, watch the promo video below to whet your appetite.

According to WWD, “market sources” say that H&M is set to announce its next designer collaboration, with none other than Maison Martin Margiela. Though the news is yet to be confirmed by the fast fashion retailer (“We never comment on rumors”), history has shown that if WWD says it’s happening, then it’s happening.
Given the avant garde designs Margiela is known for, this collaboration is likely to be much darker than past guest designer collections, particularly the whimsical, print-filled line-up by Marni earlier this year. While we wait for official word from H&M, I’ll be daydreaming about the types of offerings this collaboration might produce. Are you excited by these rumours?
