Started in 2012, The Canadian Street Style Lookbook really hit its stride in its first full year, and it was all thanks to the very fashionable style bloggers we featured from coast to coast. With over 400 looks served up in our weekly round-ups in 2013, one fact became abundantly clear: we’re one stylish nation. From the Pantone colour of the year emerald green to leather everything to that inescapable Zara skort, our favourite bloggers rocked all of the year’s biggest trends, but they also marched to the beat of their own style drum.
Over the last 12 months, established stars like Samantha, Caillianne and Chloe Beckerman of Beckerman Bite Plate and Nelia Belkova of Style Blog continued to awe and inspire us, Lookbook mainstays like Ania Boniecka of Ania.B, Ivy Xu of This Is What We Do and Krystin Lee of Suburban Faux Pas took their sartorial games to the next level, and newcomers like Sasha Exeter of So Sasha and Vanessa Cesario of The Brunette Salad arrived on the scene with a fashionable bang.
With week after week of ultra-chic ensembles, selecting just 10 of our favourites was an impossible task…so we chose 20 instead. Thank you to all the ladies and gents we featured in 2013 for a year’s worth of blog fodder – we bow down to your sartorial talents. We can’t wait to show you lovely readers what Canadian style bloggers from across the country, including Lookbook regulars and new faces we’ve yet to discover, are wearing in 2014!
Alexandra Nikolajev of I’m A Little, Toronto
A fresh, preppy take on the Canadian Tuxedo, which made a triumphant return to the style scene this year. Done with gold accessories and a touch of leopard, double denim never looked better.
Alyssa Lau of The Ordinary Peoples, Edmonton
The statement coat doesn’t get much bolder than in this metallic hue, styled to perfection with neutrals by Edmonton’s fashion blogging golden girl, a Lookbook regular.
Ania Boniecka of Ania.B, Victoria
This Calgary native served up chic look after chic look all year. This effortless, head-to-toe black getup stole our hearts, but we could have easily included another handful of Ania’s outfits in this year-end round-up. She’s just that good.
Anik Lacasse-Richard of Montreal In Style, Montreal
Leopard print and burgundy leather are a match made in style heaven, and we’d expect nothing less from this fierce Montrealer. She never fails to impress with her non-stop stream of edgy ensembles.
Anonymous by Ania Boniecka of Ania.B, Calgary
The classic black-and-white colour combo was a huge trend this year, but done with a strategically placed pop of orange (and the most amazing round bob!)? A standout look.
Anya Georgijevic of I’m The It Girl, Vancouver/Toronto
Though her personal style posts were rare this year, this recent Toronto transplant made our hearts pitter patter when she rocked a pair of uber-chic culottes. Anyone who’s ever tried knows that’s no easy feat, but Anya made it look effortless.
Bianca Venerayan and Dani Roche of Kastor & Pollux, Toronto
With inimitable style and an endearing penchant for matchy-matchy outfits like these winter white getups, it’s no wonder this Toronto-based blogging duo was named to Toronto Life‘s Most Stylish in 2013.
Caillianne Beckerman of Beckerman Bite Plate, Toronto
Three fiery red prints, ingeniously styled by Caillianne of the sartorially gifted Beckerman clan, made for one of our favourite ensembles of the year, hands down. Even her dog Cubby matched. Now that’s commitment.
Chloe Beckerman of Beckerman Bite Plate, Toronto/Los Angeles
Retro, glam, and so very Marilyn Monroe, this look is easily the loveliest we featured all year. It’s no surprise that it comes from another Beckerman sister, Chloe. This is how cocktail is done. Period.
Élodie Parthenay of Hello Elo, Montreal
As if we weren’t already in awe of the quilted neoprene coat, the colour palette of the outfit as a whole was just simply divine. This look put coral on the map for us this year.
Gracie Carroll of Gracie Carroll, Toronto
Velvet tuxedo jackets and floral pencil skirts are two of our most favourite sartorial items, so Gracie’s pairing knocked our socks off, natch. But her ensembles tend to do that on the regular, really.
Ivy Xu of This Is What We Do, Vancouver
Truly one-of-a-kind, this Vancouverite never fails to make our jaws drop with her creative styling. Choosing just one favourite from her 2013 style posts was a near impossible task, but this one was a definite standout.
Jay Strut of Jay Strut, Toronto
Jay Strut and his otherworldly embellished Balmain jacket was arguably one of the most epic moments of the Canadian street style scene in 2013. We bow down.
Kimberly Lyn of The Souls of My Shoes, Toronto
Word on the street is that this stunning skirt sat unworn in Kimberly’s closet for 2 years before this perfectly styled unveiling. We’d say it was well worth the wait. (Image credit: George Pimentel)
Krystin Lee of Suburban Faux Pas, Toronto
Bow on bow action with a side of pale pink produced a girly look with a slight menswear lean. Obviously, we adored it. No faux pas spotted here, Krystin.
Nelia Belkova of Style Blog, Toronto
No one does furry-on-furry quite like Nelia, who paired a lime green coat with a cobalt blue clutch. Throw those OTK boots into the mix, and we can’t even handle it. (Image credit: Max Kopanygin)
Samantha Beckerman of Beckerman Bite Plate, Toronto
If anyone can pull off the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M duvet coat, it’s Samantha. In fact, she’s not just pulling it off – she’s rocking it like a champ. A duvet coat, ladies and gents. Impressive indeed.
Sasha Exeter of So Sasha, Toronto
She had us at “psychedelic print”. The matching blue pumps put us over the edge. A newcomer to the Lookbook this fall, this Torontonian is sure to become a regular in the new year.
Vanessa Cesario of The Brunette Salad, Toronto
We love a good vest, and Vanessa’s leather gilet is to die for. She takes it to the next level with a bowler hat and ankle boots. Fierce with a capital F. Watch out, Chiara.
Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit, Vancouver/Beijing
The Zara skort took over the style blogs this year, but this Beijing transplant’s take on the summer’s must-have piece was by far one of our favourites. She owned that skort.
