The last time I wore this 3.1 Phillip Lim lace skirt (see here), we were in the middle of a hot summer and Fall was so very far from my mind. When the cooler weather did hit Toronto, I packed the skirt away, thinking it would hibernate in my closet until Spring.
Fast forward to last week, and I find myself standing in front of my closet, at a complete loss for what to wear to the VAWK Spring 2011 show. I catch a glimpse of my beloved lace skirt and suddenly have a light bulb moment. Earlier this year, I’d posted about Joanna Hillman, Senior Fashion Market Editor at Harper’s Bazaar, wearing the dress version of my skirt. I had loved how she’d taken an ivory lace shift dress and transitioned it perfectly to winter with a black biker jacket, black tights and edgy shoes. Inspired, I pulled out my black tights and all sorts of jackets and shoes until I finally came up with this ruffled biker jacket/lace skirt/booties ensemble. The result was a bit of a softer look than Hillman’s, but I think it worked!
I was pleased, but what do you think - was I in complete violation of an age old rule? Or are you wearing your whites past Labour Day too?

Who cares about rules, you look AMAZING!! I’m seriously in love with that skirt, it deserves to be worn year around. I would LOVE to peak into your closet!
That rule is antiquated. You look great!

I think crisp white on black looks soo chic in the winter. You look fab!! Fashion rules are meant to be broken in my book
Hi S!! Yes, it definately worked and you look so polished! I love this PL skirt and I saw Zara carrying a similar design in a top and dress. But I loove the skirt on you!!
Have a great weekend!

gorgeous !
i love your skirt there !!
glisters and blisters
Lovely–I think it transitions perfectly! I wear whatever I want, whenever I want (I’m such a rebel!1!!1). I actually don’t designate anything in my closet as, say, a spring piece or a winter piece. I think it’s fun to come up with a way to wear summery feeling clothes in winter, and vice versa.
Oh you styling genius you! Who would’ve thought the 3.1PL lacey number would look so great in a fall ensemble? I love that it stands out SO WELL – we can see even more clearly all the intricate detail.
White after labour day is absolutely NECESSARY. I love white blazers, wool coats… You gave us the perfect example of why :]
Gorgeous look, darling!
Love that skirt!
