All Laced Up and Nowhere To Go by The Backseat Stylers | December 16th, 2009 Prior to this fall/winter season, the only lace-up shoes in my closet were Nikes or Pumas (which incidentally see little use due to my aversion to gyms), and I was happy to keep it that way. That is, until one fine day (week, really) when I came across and fell in love with the Chloé Ashton lace-up wedge boots. From then on, I stalked them online until Saks surrendered (yes, it was all because of me) and put them on sale during their Designer Sale. I finally snagged my dream bowling shoes!

During the long, arduous wait (I’m only being a tad dramatic) for Saks to give in and mark my Chloé wedge boots down, I distracted myself with a Buffalo shopping trip with Mr. Backseat Styler. One of the highlights of Buffalo shopping is always the Burberry outlet, and this time was no exception. During what seemed to be a routine visit that would yield no results (seeing as I need another coat or bag like Tiger Woods needs another mistress…ohhhh shnaaaap!), I happened to spot one lonely pair of Burberry Prorsum Fall 2007 Whitham ankle boots sitting atop a shelf. It was love at first sight (as it is for me and many pairs of shoes it seems), but to my dismay, they were the very last pair and in a size fit for a small child. I don’t give up easily though (read: am obsessive), and I managed to find myself a pair of the non-patent leather variety on eBay for more than the ridiculously low outlet price, but much, much less than the original retail of $940. They arrived last week and I’ve been itching to take them out for a spin. I love how the ankle boots (along with the belt and gloves) make Lily Donaldson’s runway LBD ensemble so much more edgy, and I’m hoping for a similar effect with my outfits.

Both the Chloé and Burberry shoes are rather atypical of my personal style of the past few years (which seems to be evolving lately), so of course I had to find a dainty little pair of oxford pumps to round out my collection of lace-ups. I blogged about my heartbreak over the Manolo Blahnik oxford pumps that Neiman Marcus marked down but that I missed two weeks ago and I had really thought it was a lost cause. Except that I have a little shopping angel by the name of J who in passing suggested I check Bergdorf Goodman, since she’d seen them there in New York earlier in the season. I had just the faintest spark of hope, but given that the Designer Sale had already been going on for two weeks, it was looking rather dim. But that’s the very best time for Christmas miracles, isn’t it? A quick call to BG and I was told that there was just one last pair…and in my size. And that the only reason why they hadn’t already been carted off by some lucky Manhattanite was because they were on the sale rack for a different size. OMFG. I told the sales associate on the phone that I wanted to kiss her. Really, I did. I now anxiously await their arrival at my doorstep, as I plot the many fabulous outfits these pumps will complete.

So there you have it. Joining my Nike cross trainers and Puma sneakers are my three newest lace-up acquisitions. And now I’m thinking it’s time to move on to a new obsession. Bowling, perhaps?
