Coveting from the Backseat: Charlotte Olympia x Tom Binns Limited Edition Punk-Inspired Collection

London-based accessories designers Charlotte Olympia and Tom Binns have collaborated on a punk-inspired collection of shoes and bags, in honour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibition opening this May.

The limited edition line-up will feature punked up versions of Charlotte Olympia classics, including the Dolly Riot, Anarchy Kitty, and Punk Pandora. The offerings will be sold exclusively at Charlotte Olympia’s flagship stores in London and New York, as well as through charlotteolympia.com starting on May 2.

The last time Charlotte Olympia collaborated with another designer, it was Olympia Le-Tan and the result was S’s adorable Charlotte’s Web book clutch. I have the distinct feeling her CO collection is about to grow yet again.

Admiring from the Backseat: Taraji P. Henson in Mary Katrantzou

There’s something about Mary that I just can’t get enough of. London-based designer Mary Katrantzou‘s colourful printed dress designs have become an obsession of late, and I’ve been coveting her Spring 2013 collection ever since it started hitting stores. My latest wish list item? The Starsailor print jersey dress, which I’ve been cyber-vising for weeks now.

That would explain my exclamation of “She’s wearing my dress!!” to T last night, when I spotted a photo of Taraji P. Henson at the New York screening of Mud. The Benjamin Button actress paired the whimsical frock with a pair of quirky printed yellow pumps by Nicholas Kirkwood, also a favourite of mine. In short, Ms. Henson wore the spring ensemble of my dreams.

Want the whole outfit from head to toe? The dress retails for $1,045 and the shoes for $695, both at Net-a-porter.

Spotted from the Backseat: AGO Massive Party 2013 GOLD Edition

On April 18, the Art Gallery of Ontario threw its annual fundraising bash, Massive Party, welcoming about 1,800 guests through its doors for one of the biggest art parties Toronto has to offer. Co-chairs Laura Adams and Marie Corsini hosted the gold-themed soiree, which featured live performances and art installations inspired by everyone’s favourite precious metal.

The dress code was a style photographer’s dream come true. From incredibly luxe to delightfully tacky, party-goers arrived outfitted in everything gold. Bold statement jewelry, shiny sequins, and chic metallic shoes in golden hues abound. As for yours truly, T donned a smart brocade blazer while I chose a tulle skirt, both by Pink Tartan and in the colour of the night.

Check out the gallery below for some of our favourite gold get-ups from Massive Party GOLD.

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – April 19, 2013 Edition

Vanessa Cesario of The Brunette Salad, Toronto

The weather is slowly but surely getting warmer, which means the time is ripe for showing some leg.

Donning oversized retro sunglasses, a fedora, and an embroidered jacket with leather sleeves, Lisa would fit right in at Coachella. Alyssa layered a neat black shirt with a Kenzo-esque tiger over a white skirt with sheer panels, while Vanessa paired a paneled three-quarter length skirt with a vintage bomber jacket and some seriously enviable abs.

Viktor & Rolf Take Over The Room at The Bay Toronto

“Nice jacket”: two words that literally made my week, uttered by Viktor Horsting (or was it Rolf Snoeren? It was all such a giddy blur.) to me. The jacket in question? A mustard yellow blazer with contrast black piping designed by Viktor & Rolf themselves. The Amsterdam-based duo was in town earlier this week for a very well-attended meet-and-greet with Toronto’s fashion set at The Room at The Bay.

With HBC President Bonnie Brooks and VP / Buying Director of The Room Nicholas Mellamphy as hosts and DJ Mia Moretti spinning her magic, partygoers that included the inimitable Jeanne Beker, FASHION Magazine’s EIC Bernadette Morra and socialites Stacey Kimel and Suzanne Rogers spent the evening chatting with the charming Dutch guests-of-honour, sipping on champagne and admiring the V&R wares.

Dr. Lisa Airan and PR maven Suzanne Cohon stole the sartorial show with brightly-coloured frocks, the former in an orange Carven dress with cutouts and the latter in a fuchsia Roksanda Ilincic number (last seen on Ginnifer Goodwin!). The usually cool as a cucumber blogger Anita Clarke chose a peplum Roland Mouret to meet her fashion idols, while the effortlessly chic stylist Amy Patel paired her Margiela x H&M bodysuit with denim overalls for the occasion. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention blogger Jay Strut, who showed up in a heavily embellished Balmain jacket that made our jaws drop.

Coveting from the Backseat: Christian Louboutin Madame Mouse Patent Pumps

I’m a girly girl at heart, with a closet full of bow-embellished clothes and shoes to prove it, so I always have a hard time resisting any sartorial item with a whimsical touch. The latest object of my desire is a pair of Christian Louboutin pumps that don’t look anything like a Christian Louboutin design, at least not of late. There are no spikes, no studs, not even a platform. What it does feature is…a pair of Minnie Mouse ears.

The ‘Madame Mouse’ patent pump is incredibly chic, and an adorable twist on a classic style. They would make a fabulous addition to my footwear rotation, right next to my Charlotte Olympia kitty pumps. These lovely spring shoes retail for $845 over on christianlouboutin.com.

Holt Renfrew’s Rag & Bone Bash for Designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville

Rag & Bone designers Marcus Wainwright (left) and David Neville (Image Credit: George Pimentel)

With a slew of international designers scheduled to drop by Toronto this month, Holt Renfrew threw down the gauntlet last week with a shindig in honour of Rag & Bone designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville. The third floor of the retailer’s Bloor Street flagship, home to its contemporary collections, was transformed into a party space complete with a graffiti wall.

With the design duo’s latest offerings on hand (including an incredible green leather jacket worn by Kate Moss in their Spring 2013 campaign), cotton candy and pretzel stands at the ready, and DJ Fathom spinning all the right tunes for a crowded makeshift dance floor, I had more fun that evening than at my last visit to Holt’s end-of-season sale. And that’s saying a lot, coming from a shopaholic.

It was a great night for street style spotting too – the storm raining down outside didn’t appear to deter anyone from showing up in their best Rag & Bone(-esque) duds. There were summery white frocks (take that, hail storm!), denim rolled and ripped in all the right places, and plenty of that black-and-white trend we keep hearing about. Check out the gallery below for our favourite looks from the Holt Renfrew x Rag & Bone shindig.

Karlie Kloss in the Hermès Spring/Summer 2013 Catalogue

I posted one of these images on Instagram last week, but this stunning editorial deserves a post all its own. Karlie Kloss was shot by David Sims for the Hermès Spring/Summer 2013 catalogue, all decked out in printed silks.

With spring officially here, it looks like it’s time to break out our most colourful silk scarves again, wouldn’t you say?

The Canadian Street Style Lookbook – April 12, 2013 Edition

Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit, Vancouver/Beijing

Proclamations abound that black and white is the trend of the season. The great thing about limiting one’s sartorial choices to opposite ends of the colour spectrum is that it’s hard not to come up with a decent outfit. When paired together, black and white can be ultra chic and classic or avant-garde.

Take Alyssa, for instance. I love her look from head to toe, but it’s the bold black sock and white platform sandal combo that really stands out. Kristin looked striking this week in a floor-length, pleated black skirt paired with a fierce white motorcycle jacket.

Despite being heralded as a spring trend, black and white are a pair that won’t be going away anytime soon.
