Brian Atwood, one of my favourite footwear designers of late, is expanding into handbags, reports WWD. For Spring 2012, Atwood has produced a limited collection of 4 clutch styles, priced $1,050 to $1,850, that will be sold exclusively on Gilt.com. For those of us who don’t live a clutch life, he also plans to design larger bags for Fall 2012.
“I have always loved designing handbags, and we were getting so many requests for them,” Atwood said. “It seemed like the right time to start with chic clutches then eventually expand on that.”
I can’t wait to see how his design aesthetic, which has produced some of the sexiest platform pumps in my closet, will translate into handbags. Based on the 2 styles unveiled to date, Atwood’s first foray into handbags certainly looks promising.
For those of us who can’t quite justify the $1k+ price range though, not to worry. The designer has you covered – he also plans to incorporate handbags into his B Brian Atwood diffusion line later this year.
