On April 9, 2011, the Pediatric Oncology Group of Canada held the 10th Annual POGO Gala at the Liberty Grand in Toronto. The event consisted of a dinner, a live auction, a performance by the cast of the musical Rent, a silent auction and an after party. Successfully raising over $600,000 in support of POGO’s work, the evening was both heartbreaking and heartwarming, as courageous stories of children with cancer and childhood cancer survivors were highlighted.
The post-dinner auctions featured some of the most extravagant prizes I’ve ever seen up for bid, including everything from a Playboy Mansion Stars & Stripes party package (including event tickets, flight and accommodations) that went for $23,000 to a Black Eyed Peas meet-and-greet that sold for $8,000 to a Jason Wu leather satchel donated by The Hudson’s Bay Company.
The fashion was equally impressive, with gala attendees donning Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Canadian designer Lucian Matis, and the like. All were there to raise money for a very serious and worthy cause, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t look good doing it.
