Last night, the CFDA hosted its annual Fashion Awards at the Lincoln Centre in New York. It was an exciting night for the winners, who included Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler for womenswear designer of the year and Phillip Lim for accessories designer of the year, but it was also a grey carpet extravaganza (especially for those of us who are suffering from Cannes deprivation).
The black and white trend showed up on the red carpet with model Hilary Rhoda in Helmut Lang, while fellow catwalker Erin Wasson chose all-white Alexander Wang for the occasion. Rooney Mara looked lovely in her usual black on black, while Miranda Kerr added a pop of colour to the festivities, donning a colourful Proenza frock.
Top honours go to Olivia Palermo, who surprised us in a gorgeous fringed number by Dennis Basso; it was the best she’s looked on the red carpet in some time. Welcome back, Olivia!

That’s a wrap! After a 12-day red carpet extravaganza, the Cannes Film Festival has come to an end for another year. Of course, it’s not really over until we’ve pored over all the celebrity style snaps and narrowed them down to our 5 favourite looks of the festival.
Dior ruled the red carpet for us with two of our favourite looks: Nicole Kidman in an unexpectedly whimsical embellished frock and Marion Cotillard in a beautifully draped white gown. Carey Mulligan also made the cut in a chic black and white column dress by Vionnet, as did model Liu Wen, who brought a pop of colour to the red carpet with a navy Roberto Cavalli gown. Rounding out our 5 best dressed was Jessica Chastain in violet Givenchy, a look we couldn’t resist blogging about earlier in the festival and that took top honours in our books.
Who were your best dressed at this year’s Cannes Film Festival?

Another day, another gorgeous purple dress that’s stolen our hearts. This time, it’s the Givenchy Couture gown donned by Jessica Chastain on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet yesterday evening.
Our plan was to hold off on posting celebrity looks from Cannes until it all wraps up, but we just couldn’t resist Jessica’s stunning custom creation by Riccardo Tisci. The actress upped the glam factor of the ‘All Is Lost’ premiere red carpet with her heavily embellished gown last night, our favourite look from Cannes so far this year.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute held its annual gala last night. The dress code? Punk. And with New York and Hollywood’s boldest names attending, we knew their sartorial choices were going to be a feast for our fashion-obsessed eyes.
From a fabulously punk Sarah Jessica Parker in a printed Giles Deacon design and custom Philip Treacy mohawk headdress to a fabulous but not so punk Jennifer Lawrence in an embellished black Dior gown, the red carpet was quite the scene. Lauren Santo Domingo brought the drama in a Dolce & Gabbana dress with exaggerated sleeves, Emma Watson looked all grown up in a sexy black Prabal Gurung number, and Taylor Tomasi Hill stunned in a printed floral frock with spikes by Thom Browne.
It’s a tie for top honours, though, between a fierce Anja Rubik, who showed up in red leather Anthony Vaccarello, and Rooney Mara, who was a vision in white lace Givenchy (déjà vu?). Who were your favourites on this year’s Met Gala red carpet?

There’s something about Mary that I just can’t get enough of. London-based designer Mary Katrantzou‘s colourful printed dress designs have become an obsession of late, and I’ve been coveting her Spring 2013 collection ever since it started hitting stores. My latest wish list item? The Starsailor print jersey dress, which I’ve been cyber-vising for weeks now.
That would explain my exclamation of “She’s wearing my dress!!” to T last night, when I spotted a photo of Taraji P. Henson at the New York screening of Mud. The Benjamin Button actress paired the whimsical frock with a pair of quirky printed yellow pumps by Nicholas Kirkwood, also a favourite of mine. In short, Ms. Henson wore the spring ensemble of my dreams.
Want the whole outfit from head to toe? The dress retails for $1,045 and the shoes for $695, both at Net-a-porter.

Keira Knightley at A Dangerous Method London premiere
Roksanda Ilincic is making a quick jaunt over the pond for a visit at The Room at The Bay in Toronto today, and we couldn’t be more excited to meet her. Worn by the likes of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Gwyneth Paltrow and Michelle Obama, the London-based designer is known for red carpet-ready dresses that are feminine, colourful and whimsical.
But don’t just take our word for it. Check out Roksanda Ilincic’s top 5 celebrity red carpet moments to date, including Ginnifer Goodwin in a to-die-for pink frock at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards and Keira Knightley in that unforgettable black and white number at the London premiere of A Dangerous Method in 2011.

Bernadette Morra and Jeanne Beker
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television’s first annual Canadian Screen Awards were held in Toronto last night at The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts and broadcast live on television. The awards, which have replaced the previously separate Genie and Gemini Awards, recognize excellence in film, television and digital media productions.
Last night’s broadcast gala and industry-only soirees held earlier in the week saw Canada’s most talented actors and television personalities walk the red carpet, many in designs by local designers. Presenter Tara Spencer-Nairn donned a fierce leather number by VAWK, one of our favourite looks from the Spring 2013 collection. Kristin Kreuk and Bernadette Morra each sported Arthur Mendonça; the Beauty and the Beast actress paired an unexpected printed jumpsuit with jewelry by Toronto-based designers Shay Lowe Jewellery and Niki & Lola, while the FASHION Magazine editor-in-chief sported a stunning magenta cocktail dress.
Morra presented fashion icon and former Fashion Television host Jeanne Beker, decked out in Chanel, with the Academy Achievement Award for exceptional contributions to Canadian television. With the national fashion industry well-represented, the first ever Canadian Screen Awards was a glamorous affair indeed.

Rose Byrne in Lanvin
Because we’re not yet ready to let go of awards season and we have a feeling you aren’t either, we’ve going to dwell on Oscars Sunday just a little longer. We’ve gone ahead and rounded up our favourite after-party looks from the annual post-Oscars Vanity Fair soirée, and they’re just as glamourous as those on our best dressed list from the main event itself.
Red carpet regulars like Zoe Saldana and Kate Bosworth knocked it out of the sartorial ballpark once again in a ruffle and lace Givenchy number and embroidered Giambattista Valli frock respectively, while Amy Adams and Elizabeth Banks stunned in fringed Oscar de la Renta and printed Alexander McQueen.
Our hands-down favourite though was Rose Byrne, who served up possibly her best red carpet appearance ever, surprising us in a gorgeous white Lanvin getup. An incredible improvement over her horrendous SAG Awards outing!

Naomi Watts in Armani Privé
After an epic 3.5 hour Academy Awards ceremony tonight and red carpet coverage that was almost as long, the 2013 awards season has sadly come to an end. With stunning silver screen stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Naomi Watts and Jessica Chastain stepping out in incredible gowns by the likes of Armani Privé, Dior Haute Couture and Oscar de la Renta, however, this year’s awards season definitely went out with a sartorial bang.
Our favourite leading ladies certainly saved their best frocks for last, with most topping their looks at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. From Kerry Washington in pink Miu Miu to Stacy Keibler in metallic Naeem Khan, these are our top 10 best dressed from the 2013 Oscars. Who made your list?

Mélanie Laurent, best known for her role in Inglourious Basterds, attended the Burberry Prorsum Fall 2013 runway show yesterday in a stunning trench coat from the brand’s spring collection. This is blogworthy on 2 fronts: (a) it’s Mélanie Laurent and we love her, and (b) I now suddenly need, want, have to have a coloured trench for spring, and a lovely shade of red just might be the colour of choice.
